• Let people know why it’s important to them/ the organisation.

• Keep it simple. Find out how the subject relates to learners everyday experiences and don’t tell them what they already know.

• Telling stories can be extremely powerful and use scenarios they can recognise.

• Involve users in content creation and testing.

• Create easy to understand tools and resources to save learners time.

• Connect the use of online learning to Performance Management and Competency Frameworks.

• Promote the use of LMS at Staff Inductions and Line Management Training.

• The site has to be easy and accessible, particularly for people with poor computer skills or those who lack confidence.

• It’s important that learners have fun and enjoy using it.

• Courses needs to be interactive and engaging.

• Look at what you have already…can you repurpose it?

• Lots of free solutions available (and these can help with other projects).

• Script sessions or videos and make sure content is easy to follow and relevant to audience.

• Consider creating a bank of trained online hosts to share the burden.

• Make sure everyone is on the same page.

• Consider how you can build a new resource into your current offering and make it work for you and your learners.

• Use a demo as part of the launch plan to create interest.

• By limiting access to the Toolkit for Managers we were making it an attractive benefit!

User testing is vital

Piloting with a cross section of learners is crucial in ensuring the module is suitable for rollout.

Test complex interactions first

It is useful to build a demo of complex interactions prior to the full build.

Learners like to re-visit and re-tests

Don’t underestimate a learner’s desire to revisit content and improve their knowledge and scores.
