A NOTE ON THIS PROJECT

This project has been a long time in themaking; so long in fact that it might almostbe considered a ghost itself. The images arearound nine years old. The original text wascomposed in 2000 and was based on extractsfrom a notebook I had kept since 1995. In2002 I decided to write new words, taking myinspiration directly from the photographsthemselves. I wanted to try and create acoherent narrative for the images.

Whether this has been achieved you maynow judge for yourself.

Enjoy the journey; embrace the destination, wherever that may be.

HOW IT CAME ABOUT

This project began life with the working titlemystery shoot, because of the circumstancesin which the photographs were taken.Sometime during the period 1998–9, Adamhad chanced on a camera, left unguardedand vulnerable to his curiosity, andproceeded to take the series of photographsshown here.

Although almost a whole roll of film hadbeen shot, no-one noticed (and Adam, ofcourse, neglected to tell of his littleadventure).

Consequently, when the film was eventuallydeveloped and returned (complete with anextra set!), there was a great deal ofconfusion. Which gradually gave way toamusement as it became apparent who themystery snapper was.

Adam’s twenty five photographs arepresented in almost the same order in whichthey were taken.

In none of them does he manage tophotograph the kitchen clock, so we have noidea what time they were taken. However, some unearthly hour of the morning issuggested by the presence of pyjamas andthe complete lack of parental supervision!(Of course, had the adults not requiredsleep, it is safe to say these photographscould not have been taken).
