As I write my last newsletter article, I reflect on all we have accomplished these past two years. I’m proud to have served as your Woman’s Club President and now look for-ward to my new role as a Director-at-Large. My husband can now feel as though he has his wife back 24/7! (I think he’s going to find this isn’t necessarily true -- I also serve as Leadership chair for GFWC District 8 and am on the Meals & Registration Committee for GFWC Florida!) I know our Woman’s Club will continue all of our good work not only in our Community but around the world! So many of you have come forward to motivate, encourage and join in the Volunteer Spirit! You likely will never know the won-der and excitement you brought to children during the holi-days or recently with our Book Heroes Project. How about the lives you’ve saved through surgery of cleft lips and pal-ates? How you’ve helped to bring clearer vision to those who are wearing the prescription eyewear we’ve collected. The list goes on forever – Soles4Souls, Free the Girls and the thousands of Heart Pillows, seatbelt covers, no-sew blankets, and lap pads. Did you know “The Collect” was established in 1905 as a way to begin or to end every GFWC meeting? GFWC is a faith-based, nonsecular organization of like-minded women who share a common goal to serve others through volun-teerism to make our world a better place. One of my goals as President was to become more involved and educated in GFWC. Another was to bring what I’ve learned to our club, and I hope you feel I have done so. Continued on page 2

Sharing with Sharon
Thank you for entrusting me with the responsibility of serving as President. More importantly for me is the love and joy you’ve brought to my soul. I thank our Board of Directors for all of their ded-ication and hard work. I am grateful for the many members who’ve worked behind the scenes in support of our Committee Chairs. I pass the gavel to Sally Anne Barclay, and I challenge us all to sup-port her as you have me. To those of you leaving for the summer I wish you safe travels; I look forward to seeing you in September! For those of you staying put I hope to see you at bunco, birthday luncheons and at functions right here in Sun City Center. From Dr. Seuss: It’s not about what it is. It’s about what it will become! How did it get so late so soon? Its night before its afternoon. Decem-ber is here before its June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?

Report from Our Club’s Book Reading Group
By Nancy Foster, Reading Group Member
Hi! to all who were present and to all of you who missed our very enjoyable meeting. The following paragraphs contain the names of the books read and the reader of each book. Gloria Booker read “The First Family” by Michael Palmer and “An Unwanted Guest” by Shari Lapena and recommended both.
Nancy Foster enjoyed “The Meaning of Butterflies” by Grace Greene but stopped short of a wholeheart-ed "read it" recommendation.
Diane Lawrence reported on “Long Road to Mercy”, which is first in a new series by Baldacci. Diane is waiting for the second book in the series to come out, so it sounds like a “a very definite yes, read it” recom-mendation.
Joan Madden spoke about the book, “Anybody Can Do Anything” by Betty McDonald, who is a Northwest History Author. There was no “yes or no” in the rec-ommendation box.
Gloria Morrow read “Rescuing His Secret Child” by Maggie K. Black.
Peggy Person enjoyed “Winter in Paradise” by Elin Hilderbrand.
Carla Pomorski reported on “The Hundred Year Mar-athon” by Michael Pillsbury.
Linda Floyd reported on “The Weavers Daughter” written by Sara Ladd.
It looks like we have some enjoyable “curl up and read” moments ahead, based on all the positive re-ports. Many thanks to our hostess, Diane Lawrence, for her hospitality and to all of you for putting up with my limited computer skills!
The next Book Club meeting will be held on May 21 at the home of
Gloria Brooker.

WE ARE BOOK HEROES !!
The books that club members donated at our April meeting were given to each child at the RCMA
after-school program in Wimauma. Many of the Hope Fund volunteers work there each week. Educa-
tion Chair Jan Heuman and President Sharon (both also Hope Fund volunteers) distributed the
books to very excited children!
The remaining books were taken to Wimauma Ele-
mentary Media Center Specialist Laura Robinson
(pictured left).
These books will be used for the Little Free Library
that’s inside the elementary school. Parents utilize
that as a book source for their younger children. photos by Angie Maze

APRIL BIRTHDAY LUNCH
We only had one lady with a birthday - Jan Heuman, but there were lots of ladies there to
celebrate with her. Great fun!
ARBOR DAY
April 26, 2019
My Warrior’s Place, Ruskin
Left, staff plant one of the trees our club donated to this center
that’s dedicated to serving military veterans. Rain didn’t stop
many of our club members from attending the tree-planting cer-
emony.
“Planting trees is an act of kindness
and optimism. A gift for our friends
and neighbors, and for the future
generations. The trees we plant clean
the air, beautify our neighborhoods,
provide homes for wildlife, conserve
energy and topsoil, and help keep the
atmosphere in balance. And life is just
better when we live amongst the trees.”

Conservation Collections at Our
Monthly Club Meetings By Patsie Ginley
The Conservation Committee collects recyclables at
every monthly meeting.
The following items are always appreciated: greeting
card fronts, buttons (the larger the better—for crafts),
Box Tops for Education, can tabs, elementary-age-
appropriate new or gently used books for the Little
Free Library in Wimauma, eye glasses, new and gen-
tly worn shoes (please secure with string or heavy
rubber band), and coupons (clipped and separated
into “food” and “non-food”) baggies. Please note - no
store coupons, vitamins, or medicine coupons can be
used overseas.
Please Note: Currently, we are no longer collecting
magazines, corks, or stamps. In addition, plastic bags
can be recycled at most grocery stores, and Publix
has a container for Styrofoam.
