CONFIRMATION CLASS FORMS

This year’s confirmation class has formed and now includes six youth

and two pastors. (See pictures) In preparation for confirming their baptismal

faith on Pentecost as well as becoming “professing members” of this congrega-

tion of The United Methodist Church, the young people explore various aspects

of faith including theology, scripture, history, and worship. Additionally, the

class visits other sites of worship for other faiths and learns about the religions

followed by some of their friends.

The class meets each first Saturday

from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. from February

through June and “itinerates” throughout the

campus, in part to become more acquainted

with the buildings that are part of the church.

In February, the group started in the

conference room, moved to the chapel, and

then proceeded to the sanctuary.

Not only will there be “field trips” to

places in the community, but opportunities to serve will be offered as well. All

are invited to pray for these young people that their faith grows during this

experience and that their learnings provide foundations for continued maturing

over the years.

FAITH AND FILM

The documentary, “RBG” will be Faith and Film’s February offering. The film

follows the life of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, currently an Associate Justice of the Supreme

Court. The documentary has been nominated for an Academy Award.

Faith and Film meets on February 15, at 7:00 p.m. in Room 151 with a light

supper included.

Co-Weds February 22, 2019 Meeting Have you ever wondered what the Marakesh Express is?

Or why does Casablanca have such a romantic reputation? Or

where is Morocco? For the February Co-Wed meeting, we will

sit back and enjoy an armchair trip to Morocco, presented

by Donnalee Monninger showing picture highlights from

Donnalee’s voyage last year, along with narration about her

exciting trip events including how to ride a Camel! The potluck

luncheon will held in Carlson Fellowship Center and begin at

12:30 pm and the program will start at 1:30 pm.

PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND

A pilgrimage to the Holy

Land has been scheduled for May

28, 2019. This ten-day trek to Israel

will include the area around the Sea

of Galilee where much of the early

ministry of Jesus occurred as well

as Jerusalem where he served in his

final days. Travel to Bethlehem and

to Masada, Qumran, Jericho and the

Dead Sea add historical and geographical context to the time of Jesus.

Along with holy sites, Roman influences are explored both

along the Mediterranean coast and in the interior of the land.

The pilgrimage is fully escorted with guides offering both

interpretation of the sites and assistance in the travel. This travel will

deepen understanding of the Biblical text and provide new insights

into the various histories of the land.

Brochures are now available from the church office. Pastor

Rich Garner, the tour’s host, will be glad to answer questions about

participation in this pilgrimage.

WE GIVE THANKS

We have received a gener-

ous gift from Jim Hissey, longtime

member who was an active

supporter of the music program as

page turner at the organ and

member of the audience on both

Sunday’s and special occasions.

The general fund recently received

$10,000 from his estate.

FELLOWSHIP AROUND THE TABLE

Wednesday, February 27, 2019, 1:00 p.m.

Enjoying the company of one another is but one aspect of

the Train Game, which is offered every 4th Wednesday in the

Dining Room, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The easily-learned domino

game provides laughter and good opportunities to converse with

others around the small table. Come and join others in using

skills of planning and execution.

RUMMAGE SALE

As we have in past years, we will hold a sale of unneeded

household goods, clothing, furniture, and games on Saturday,

February 23 in Carlson Fellowship Center from 8 am until 12 noon. Our

rummage sale provides an opportunity to clean out our closets of items

no longer in use and to make them available to the community at large.

The rummage sale will benefit the Sierra Service Project mission to the Navajo Nation in Tsaile,

Arizona in July. Donations may be brought to the church office.

SSP has a long history of working in the Navajo Nation. Our experiences have

been wonderful in these very welcoming and accommodating communities. It is a truly

special place with a great culture to share.

The Navajo Nation today is the largest Indian Tribe in the U.S. with 17.5

million acres of reservation land across portions of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.

Within the reservation, there are 110 chapters which are the local form of

government. SSP has been welcomed for the sixth year in a row to serve in the Tsaile Chapter.

Based on the 2010 census, 1,205 people live in Tsaile. Over 63% of the population lives below the

poverty line.
