Business Intelligence, or BI, mainly refers to computer-based techniques used to identify, collect, and analyze business data in order to provide historical, current and predictive views of business operations with the goal of supporting better business decision making. It is a Decision Support System (DSS).

A Decision Support System (DSS) is a computer-based information system that supports business or organizational decision-making activities in a rapidly changing environment. Decision Support Systems are designed to serve the management ,operations, and planning levels of a organization. Decision Support Systems are intended to help decision makers compile useful information from a combination of data sources, business models, and professional experiences in order to identify and solve problems.
