REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM

(Remote Vehicle Start) (ifequipped): If your vehicle has this fea-ture, it can be used to start the engine.(See Remote Vehicle Start System.)

(Lock): Press this button to lock allthe doors. The interior lamps will turnoff after a short delay once all doors areclosed. If enabled through the DriverInformation Center (DIC), the parkinglamps will flash once and/or the hornwill chirp to indicate locking hasoccurred.

(Unlock): Press this button tounlock the driver’s door. If the button ispressed again within five seconds, allremaining doors will unlock. The interiorlamps will illuminate and remain on for10 seconds or until the ignition isturned on. If enabled through the DIC,the parking lamps will flash twice andthe horn will chirp twice to indicateunlocking has occurred.

(Trunk/Liftgate Release): Thetrunk or liftgate will unlatch when thisbutton is pressed and held for approxi-mately one second. You can open thetrunk with the transmitter when thevehicle is stationary. The liftgate on theMaxx can be opened only when thevehicle is in Park.The trunk or liftgate may also beopened using the Trunk/Liftgate Releasebutton located on the driver’s door.

(Vehicle Locator/PanicAlarm): A new Vehicle Locator featurehas been added to your car’s RemoteKeyless Entry. Press and hold this button for approxi-mately one second to locate your vehi-cle. The horn will sound three times andthe headlamps and parking lamps willflash three times.To sound the panic alarm, press andhold the button for three seconds. Thehorn will sound and the headlamps andparking lamps will flash for two min-utes. Press the button again to cancelthe panic alarm.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

mREMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM

Remote Vehicle Start System(if equipped)

This feature allows you to start theengine from outside the vehicle by usingthe Remote Keyless Entry transmitter.(Normal transmitter range is withinabout 200 feet of the vehicle.) Theremote start capability must be turnedon using the Driver Information Centerin order for the Remote Vehicle StartSystem to function. (See DriverInformation Center.)You can also set the vehicle’s cli-mate control system to heat or coolthe vehicle interior. (See ClimateControl and Remote Vehicle Startor see Section 3 of your OwnerManual.)The engine will run for about 10 min-utes before turning itself off, but can bereset for 10 minutes more by performinganother remote start sequence at anytime. After two consecutive remotestarts, no additional remote starts areallowed until the vehicle has been start-ed with the ignition key.

Starting the Vehicle1. Aim the transmitter at the vehicle.2. Press and release the (Lock)

button on the transmitter.3. Immediately press and hold the

(Remote Vehicle Start) button forabout two seconds. When the vehi-cle starts, the parking lamps will illu-minate and stay on while the engineis running.

4. Repeat these steps for a 10-minutetime extension.

5. After a remote start, the key must beinserted in the ignition and turned tothe Run position before driving.

Canceling a Remote Vehicle Start If you wish to turn off the engineinstead of driving after a remote start,perform one of the following functions:• Press and hold the (Remote

Vehicle Start) button until the park-ing lamps turn off.

• Press and release the HazardWarning Flashers button inside thevehicle. Press the button again toturn off the flashers.

• Turn the key in the ignition switch tothe Run position and then off.

• The engine will automatically stopwhen time expires.

Note: If the Service Engine Soon light is illuminated on the instrument panel cluster,the Remote Vehicle Start System cannot beused. See your dealer for the proper repairs.

Note: The Remote Vehicle Start System willnot operate if the hood is open or if the keyis in the ignition.

Driver Seat ControlsThe driver’s seat can be adjustedfore/aft and up/down as well asreclined. The front and rear tilt of theseat cushion also can be adjusted, if equipped.

DRIVER PERSONAL FIT FEATURES

Lumbar and Seatback PositionAdjustment (if equipped)

Adjust the lumbar support using thelumbar lever (A) located on the outboardside of the driver’s seatback. Ratchetthe lever down to increase support andup to decrease support. You may needto ratchet the lever several times forthe desired amount of support.Adjust the seatback position by pullingup the recliner lever (B) and adjustingthe seatback forward or rearward.Release the lever to secure the seat-back in place.

See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Shoulder Belt Height AdjusterThe front seat shoulder belts can beadjusted to the height that is right foreach occupant. Push the Release buttonup or down to move the height adjuster.Once in a comfortable position, try tomove the height adjuster to make sureit is locked in place.See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Tilt/Telescope Steering WheelTo adjust thetilt/telescopesteering wheel:1. Pull down

the leverlocated onthe left sideof the steer-ing column to unlock the wheel.

2. Move the wheel up to a centeredposition or higher to telescope it inor out to a comfortable position.

3. Tilt the wheel up or down to a com-fortable position.

4. Push up the lever all the way to lockthe wheel in place.

See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Adjustable Throttle and BrakePedals (if equipped)

The throttle and brake pedals can beadjusted to a comfortable and safeoperating position using the buttonlocated on the left side of the instru-ment panel. The vehicle must be in Parkto adjust the pedals.Press the left3side of the button tomove the pedals away from you and theright4side of the button to move thepedals toward you.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Outside Power MirrorsThe outside powerrearview mirrors maybe adjusted using thecontrols located onthe driver’s door.Use the selectorswitch (A) to selectthe driver-side mirroror passenger-sidemirror; and then usethe control pad (B) to adjust the select-ed mirror up, down or side-to-side. Themirror will move only when the controlpad is in the 12, 3, 6 or 9 o’clock posi-tion. Move the selector switch to thecenter position when not adjustingeither mirror.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Heated Seat Controls (if equipped)The heated front seatcontrols are locatedon the outboard cor-ner of the driver’s andfront passenger’sseats. High: Press the topof the switch ( | ) onceto turn on the heatedseat to the high set-ting (indicator light number 2).Low: Press the top of the switch ( | )twice to turn on the heated seat to thelow setting (indicator light number 1).Off: Press the bottom of the switch ( )to turn off the heated seat.See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

While most of the radio and CD playercontrols and features on your audio sys-tem will look familiar, following aresome that may be new.DisplayOn radios with a single-line display, theDIC overwrites the radio informationwhile in use. On radios with two-linedisplays, the top line shows radio fre-quency or time and outside tempera-ture; the second line shows DIC information. Left Controls

(Power): Press the center of thisknob to turn the power on or off.

(Volume): Turn the outside ring ofthis knob to adjust the volume. BAND (if equipped): Press this buttonto switch to FM1, FM2, AM, or XM1and XM2 (if equipped).SRCE (Source) (if equipped): Press thisbutton to change to the CD mode or anauxiliary mode (rear audio). Press theBAND button to return to the radiomode.AUTO (Automatic Volume) (ifequipped): This feature automaticallyadjusts audio volume based on vehiclespeed to compensate for outside road

(Seek/Scan): Press the upor down arrow to go to the next or pre-vious radio station or, when a CD isplaying, to the next or previous track.To enter the scan mode, press and holdthe up or down arrow for two seconds(a beep will sound). Radio stations willbe scanned while in the radio mode andCD tracks while in the CD mode. Pressand hold the up or down arrow for fourseconds to scan radio station presets.Right ControlsDISP (Display): Press the center of thisknob to toggle the radio display betweenstation frequency and time. It will alsodisplay song title and artist information,if available in the broadcast.ADJ (Adjust): Turn the outside ring ofthis knob to tune radio stations and toadjust selected audio functions.TONE: Press this button to display thebass, midrange and treble levels. Turnthe knob to adjust each level.BAL/FADE (Balance/Fade): Press thisbutton to display the balance betweenthe right and left speakers and the fadebetween the front and rear speakers.Turn the knob to adjust sound fromthe speakers.AUTO TONE (AutomaticEqualization): Press this button toselect customized equalization settingsfor a radio station or CD.Setting the ClockTo set the clock:1. Press and hold the Clock button for

two seconds to enter the Set Clockmode.

complete the process.Setting Preset StationsUp to 30 preset stations (FM1, FM2,AM, XM1 and XM2 [if equipped]) canbe programmed on the six numberedpushbuttons. To preset a station:1. Turn on the radio. 2. Press the BAND button to select

FM1, FM2, AM, XM1 or XM2. 3. Tune in the desired station. 4. Press the AUTO TONE button to

select the equalization. 5. Press and hold one of the six num-

bered pushbuttons until you hear abeep. The station is now preset.

Audio Steering Wheel Controls (if equipped)

A number of audio controls can beadjusted at the steering wheel. Theyinclude:+ – (Volume): Press the plus or minusbutton to increase or decrease the volume.

(Seek): Press the up or downarrow to go to the next or previousradio station or, when a CD is playing,to the next or previous track. Press and hold either arrow to scan radio stations.BAND: Press this button to switch toAM, FM or XM (if equipped).1–6: Press this button to go to the nextpreset radio station.

(Mute): Press this button tosilence the system. Press the buttonagain to turn the sound on.

Note: CDs with any affixed labels may jamin the CD player. Label a CD using a perma-nent marker. If more than one CD is insertedinto the slot at one time, or if scratched ordamaged CDs are played, the CD playercould be damaged. When using the CDplayer, use only CDs in good condition with-out labels; load one CD at a time; and keepthe CD player and the loading slot free offoreign materials, liquids and debris. MP3-formatted CDs will not play in this CD player.

Multiple-Disc CD Player (if equipped)

With the in-dash 6-Disc CD player, notethat you cannot directly load a CD as insingle-play systems.

Loading a Single CD:• Press and release the LOAD button.

Wait for the display prompt to loadthe CD.

Loading Multiple CDs:• Press and hold the LOAD button for

two seconds. Follow the displayprompts to load each CD.

Playing a Specific CD:• Press the numbered pushbutton

that corresponds to the loaded CD number on the display.

Rear Seat Audio/EntertainmentSystem (if equipped)

This feature allows front seat and rearseat passengers to listen to differentaudio sources at the same time usingthe Rear Seat Audio (RSA) controls andthe wireless headphones. The vehicle’srear speakers will be muted when theRSA system is turned on.

Rear Seat Audio To operate the RSA system:• Select AM, FM or XM (if equipped)

by pressing the BAND button orselect an audio source by pressingthe SRCE (Source) button.

• Use the SEEK buttons or the 1–6(preset) button to change radio sta-tions, tracks or CDs.

• Adjust the volume on the wirelessheadphones by turning the dial onthe headphones, or on plug-in head-phones by using the left and rightvolume control knobs.

Rear Seat Entertainment – DVDThe Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) sys-tem has all of the functions of the RSAsystem, with the added features of aDVD player, flip-up video screen, remotecontrol and auxiliary input jacks. A quick reference card included withthe headphone package provides basicoperating instructions for the system,as well as instructions for stowing thewireless headphones and remote control.To operate the RSE system:• All DVDs and CDs will begin playing

automatically. When playing a DVD,you may be required to press thePlay button on the RSE system orthe remote control to start playingthe movie if the DVD stops at amenu screen.

• To switch between the DVD playerand an auxiliary source, press theAUX button on the remote control.

• To disable the RSE system from thedriver’s seat, press the radio powerbutton twice. To resume use of theRSE system, press the RSE powerbutton.

Note: Front-seat passengers have controlover an audio source if the rear-seat pas-sengers are listening to the same sourcethrough the RSA/RSE system.

Driver Information Center (DIC)Your vehicle’s audio system also has anintegrated Driver Information Center(DIC) that provides vehicle informationand enables vehicle feature personaliza-tion. To operate the DIC, the ignitionswitch must be in the Run position.The DIC is controlled through three but-tons located on the left side of theaudio system. The DIC messages will beshown on your audio system display.

In many vehicles,OnStar Advisors can access certaindiagnostic information and can tellyou how serious the condition isand what you should do about it.

Cruise ControlThe cruise control but-tons are located onthe steering wheel.

(On/Off): Press this button to turn thecruise control systemon or off. This doesnot set the speed.SET – (Set): Pressthis button to set thespeed, or to decreasethe speed if the system is set. Whenthe cruise control speed is set, thecruise light will illuminate in the instru-ment cluster.

Climate Control Airflow Modes

Turn the right control knob to changethe direction of the airflow. The knobcan be positioned between two modesfor a wide range of airflow adjustments.

(Vent): This mode directs air to theinstrument panel outlets.

(Bi-Level): This mode directs air tothe instrument panel and floor outlets.

(Floor): This mode directs most ofthe air to the floor outlets and some air to the side window outlets.

RES +(Resume): Pressthis button toresume a setspeed, or toincrease thespeed if thesystem is set.

(Cancel):Press this button to cancel the cruise control set speed. See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Preventing Window Fogging(Defog): Use this mode to clear the

windows of moisture and to warm pas-sengers. This mode splits the air deliv-ery between the windshield and thefloor outlets.

(Defrost): Use this mode toremove fog or frost from the windshieldmore quickly. This mode directs most ofthe air to the windshield.When you select the defog or defrostmode, the system automatically turnsoff recirculation and runs the air-condi-tioning compressor. The recirculation

mode cannot be selected becauseoutside air is needed to remove interi-or moisture from the vehicle, even onrainy days.For faster window defogging on veryhumid, cool days, follow these tips:1. Turn the climate control mode knob

to (Defrost).2. Turn the temperature knob all the

way into the red (Hot) area.3. Turn the fan knob to top speed (4).

(Rear Defog): Press this button toactivate the rear window defogger. Thedefogger will turn off automaticallyafter a set period of time, except atspeeds above 50 mph, during which therear window defogger will remain on toclear the window.The heated side mirrors (if equipped)also are activated with the rear win-dow defogger.

Note: Once the windows have cleared,changing the controls to a recirculationmode setting is not recommended becausethis will stop the outside airflow that isneeded to maintain clear windows.

CONVENIENCE FEATURES

Automatic Climate Control (if equipped)

Turn the left and right knobs to AUTO toautomatically control the inside temper-ature, air delivery mode and fan speed.Use the up and down temperature con-trol buttons to adjust the temperaturesetting.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Climate Control and RemoteVehicle Start (if equipped)

During a remote vehicle start, the man-ual climate control system will operateat its last setting before the vehiclewas turned off.With automatic climate control (ifequipped), the system will sense yourvehicle’s interior temperature and oper-ate as necessary to warm or cool thevehicle to a preset interior temperature.It will also activate the rear defogger ifneeded, based on outside temperature.See Sections 1 and 3 of your Owner Manual.

Maximum Air ConditioningTo cool the vehicle quickly on hot days,open the windows just long enough tolet the hot inside air escape; then, formaximum cooling:1. Select the (Vent) mode.2. Select the highest fan speed.3. Select (Air Conditioning).4. Select (Recirculation).5. Select the coolest temperature.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Exterior Lamps

Automatic Lamp ControlYour vehicle is equipped with anAutomatic Lamp Control (ALC) system,which automatically turns on the head-lamps and other exterior lamps at nightor when necessary. The exterior lampsalso can be operated manually.The Automatic Lamp Control system’slight sensor is located on top of theinstrument panel. To ensure proper sys-tem operation, it’s important to avoidplacing any objects on or near the sensor.Exterior Lamp Control SwitchThe exterior lamp control switch islocated on the lever to the left of thesteering column. The switch can berotated to each of the following fourpositions.

(Headlamps): Turns on the head-lamps, parking lamps and taillamps.

(Parking Lamps): Turns on parkinglamps and taillamps only. AUTO: Automatic Lamp Control(ALC): Automatically turns on DaytimeRunning Lamps (DRLs) in the daytimeand headlamps, parking lamps and tail-lamps at dusk.

(Off/On): When operating in theAUTO position, a momentary turn of thelamp control switch to the Off/On posi-tion will turn off the ALC and all of the

Speed-Sensitive Wipers

The speed-sensitive wipers lever islocated to the right of the steering column.

(Intermittent): Move the lever upto this position to have the wipersadjust with your vehicle speed, increas-ing as you drive faster and decreasingwhen you slow down. Rotate thespeed-sensitive wiper band on thelever down for a longer wiper delay,and rotate it up for a shorter delay.

(Low): Move the lever up to thisposition to turn the wipers on Low.

(High): Move the lever up to thisposition to turn the wipers on High.

(Mist): Move the lever down to this position to turn the wipers on forone wipe.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Electronic Range Select Mode/Driver Shift Control

Electronic Range Select ModeThis feature allows you to limit highergears by selecting a maximum gearrange when the shift lever is in Low (L).Selecting L3 (third gear), for example,prevents fourth gear operation. Limitinggear ranges can be helpful when drivingover steep hills or in deep snow or mud.Use the +/– button on the shift lever toselect a gear. The display on the instru-ment panel cluster will show the cur-rent gear selection.Driver Shift Control (SS modelsonly)While using the Driver Shift Control, the vehicle will have firmer shifting forincreased performance. To use this fea-ture, move the shift lever to the Manual(M) mode and select a lower or higherdriving gear using the button on theshift lever. The display on the instru-ment panel cluster will show the cur-rent gear selection.Press the – (minus) side of the button todownshift. When slowing to a stop, thevehicle will automatically downshift.

Press the + (plus) side of the button toupshift. As vehicle speed increases,you will need to manually upshift.If current vehicle speed is too high ortoo low for the requested gear, theshift will not occur.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Sunroof (if equipped)The control switch for the sunroof islocated on the headliner between thesun visors. It will operate only while theignition is on.Vent Position:1. Open the sunshade by hand.2. Press and release the rear part of

the switch.Fully Open Position:1. Open the sunshade by hand.2. Press and release the rear part of

the switch twice. The roof will fullyexpress-open.

Closed Position:Press and hold the front part of theswitch until the roof closes. See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

CONVENIENCE FEATURES

Windshield Pillar Convenience Clip

A clip is located on the driver’s side ofthe windshield. It can hold small itemssuch as parking passes and toll tickets.

60/40 Split Folding Rear SeatThe split folding rear seatback permitsloading of longer items from the rearcargo area.Fold Down the Rear Seatback1. Open the trunk and locate the gray

handles on the upper side of thetrunk opening.

2. Position your hand over the top ofone or both of the handles and pulltoward you. The left handle opensthe larger seatback; the right handleopens the smaller side.

3. Push the seatback open through thetrunk or pull it open from inside thevehicle.

Raise the Rear Seatback:1. Push the seatback up until you hear

a click.2. Pull on the seatback to make sure it

is secure.See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Cleaning the Interior UpholsteryIn general, cleaning the entire seatpanel is recommended, starting fromthe seams and moving into the stain toavoid a ring effect after drying.For the cloth fabric seat, in mostinstances, soda water and a clean whitecloth will remove spots and spills.For the Ultra Lux™ fabric seat, in mostinstances, mild soapy water and a cleanwhite cloth will remove spills and spots.For oil and grease spots, sprinkle bakingsoda on the spot and brush or wipewith a clean white cloth.See Section 5 of your Owner Manual.

Multi-Flex Rear Seat

Adjusting the Multi-Flex RearSliding SeatOn Malibu Maxx models, the rear seatcan slide forward to allow for more rear cargo space, or slide rearward or recline.Slide the Seat1. Lift the bar (A) under the front of the

seat to unlock it and slide the seatto the desired position.

2. Release the bar.

Recline the Seat1. Pull up and hold the recliner lever

(B) located on the side of the seat.2. Adjust to the desired position, and

release the lever.See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Note: For vehicles equipped with the rearseat DVD system, locate the molded-in riblocated on the plastic carpet retainer at thebottom of the left rear door opening. Keep-ing the seat rearward of this rib will ensurethat the DVD screen can be fully openedwithout interfering with the seat.

Rear SkyLight Sunshade

Your vehicle’s rear skylight permitsadded light into the rear seating area.To reduce the amount of bright sunlightentering the rear seating area, close theretractable sunshade by pulling out theshade and hooking the tab into thenotch in the skylight trim.

Rear Compartment Storage Panel

The shelf/cargo cover permits two-tiered cargo loading for maximum spaceutility. The shelf is faced with a carpet-ed surface on one side and a durableplastic surface on the other side for car-rying dirty or wet cargo. To position theshelf at one of three levels:

1. Insert the front corners into theselected shelf guides and slide theshelf forward.

2. Press down on the back of the shelfto lock it down.

For added convenience, four grocerybag hooks are included on the rearedge of the shelf.Utility Table

To set up the shelf as a utility table:1. Place the shelf in the upper (Level 1)

position, carpet or plastic side up,and extend the shelf out. The shelfextends only in the upper position.

2. Unsnap the leg from the plastic side of the table and turn the legoutward.

3. Set the leg securely into the grooveon the plastic trim of the lowercargo opening.
