Renewing Your Marriage Vows

Text: Matthew 5:27-30 Earlier in this text Jesus dealt with a broken relationship between two brothers. He then dealt with a broken relationship between husbands and wives—prompting a teaching on divorce and adultery. I. The _______________ of the Home (vs. 27)

A. The ____________ for a Binding Promise

B. The ____________ of a Broken Promise

II. The ______________ of the Heart (vs. 28)

A. A ____________ Look

B. A ____________ Look

III. The______________ of the Habits (vs. 29-30)

A. ____________ the Power of Temptation

B. ____________ the Potential of Temptation

We need a renewal of the marriage vows. Society may be “dumbing down” God’s meaning of marriage, but for each husband and wife in this place today, your goal is the building up of marriage. You made a covenant to be faithful, and you ought to make a renewed covenant to keep that covenant.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God.”

Thirty- Five Years

On this Anniversary Sunday, we have chosen to accent the institution of marriage. Other years we have celebrated the anniversary of the founding of this church. We have celebrated staff anniversaries. We have celebrated the beginning of ministries. We have celebrating my marriage and the anniversary of my call to preach. In fact on this Sunday, it is also the completion of 13 years shepherding this congregation and the ministry of Central Baptist Church. To remain true to our 2019 theme, I wanted to conclude our summer preaching series, “Renewing” with an emphasis on marriage—not parenting, fathering or mothering, but on marriage itself. There are few things sacred in this world anymore. I have used that word sacred a lot lately in my thoughts and dealing with others. Monday, we will have another meeting with our interior decorator. My perimeters to her were not what is trendy, not what is fashionable, but what is sacred. My desire is for the membership to have a place that it set apart from all other places. It ought to have a different look about it and a different feel about it. (By the way, you are to live your individual lives for God with the same principle for your self.) So today, let’s put a renewal on the vows of marriage. It is a choice to love someone, a consecration to love someone one in selfless way, a commitment to do it for a lifetime, and a celebration when you completed the task. Therefore, once I gain I repeat…..

I, Bruce, take thee, Donna, to be my wedded wife, To have and to hold, from this day forward,

For better, for worse, For richer, for poorer,

In sickness and in health, To love and to cherish, Till death do us part,

According to God's holy ordinance; I make my vow.

To Donna, I wish that I could love you with a perfect love like Christ’s love. When we meet Him in Heaven, I hope that you will be able to say, “I married someone who resembled You.”
