Purpose: To get an interview and to get your foot in the door! Chronological

Lists most recent positions (First in reverse chronological order)

Most Common Best for those with steady employment history

Functional Focuses on education, skills and abilities. Used for candidates entering the workforce with limited or extensive experience, with

employment gaps, military personnel, or career changers. De-emphasizes employment dates.

Combination Mix of chronological and functional

Resume TipsInformation should be clear and concise.

Lengthone page for up to ten years of experience or two pages for more

than ten years of experience. Choose a plain font style that is easy to read, size should be 11-14.List pertinent classes related to the position you are seeking. If you have not graduated, indicate the following

“Currently pursuing a degree in . . . with an expected graduation date of . . .

Be sure to list your employment history in reverse chronological order (most recent first).

List the name of your previous employer, along with the city and state, the dates you were employed there, your job title, along with a brief description of your duties and responsibilities.

List any computer skills that you have including; MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, Internet, etc.

Proof your resume carefully for grammatical and spelling errors, and ask someone else to proof for you
