High School Class Descriptions
Excellent Essays
No more late nights writing an essay the day before it's due. "Excellent Essays" will teach your high
schooler how to write an essay without the last minute stress. This two week class includes strategies
for reading comprehension, critical thinking, brainstorming, structure, and editing. NOTE: THIS IS A 2
WEEK COURSE
Math Subjects
We offer “get ready” classes for Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Alg. 2/Trig., and Pre-Calculus. Our classes are small and we ensure that the topics covered are relevant to each student. We fill important skill gaps from this year and preview next year's topics. All of our instructors are intimately familiar with the local curriculum and know exactly what students need to know to get off to a fast start next year.
Organizational Boot Camp a.k.a. Study Skills
Our Study Skills program is for students who exhibit a connection between poor organizational skills and below-ability achievement. Students will learn how to study, take notes, prepare for tests, and take tests! This class also teaches students how to get and stay organized, and manage time. Great study and test taking skills lead to higher grades and academic self-esteem.
Spanish
Our Spanish classes fill in foundational gaps from previous years and preview topics for next year to
ensure that students are more than ready for Spanish in the fall. Our Spanish instructors have been
tutoring local students for several years and are intimately familiar with the local curriculum.
Get Ready for High School
This 3 hour class helps students get prepared to enter 9th grade. This class covers algebra or geometry
(personalized for each student's level), essay writing, and reading comprehension. If your son or
daughter has skill gaps from middle school, we will fill them in. If not, we will focus more on getting him
or her ready for next fall.
AP History
Get ready for AP History. Our classes are small and we ensure that the topics covered are relevant to all
students. Our classes always fill important skill gaps from this year and preview next year's topics. All of
our instructors are intimately familiar with the local curriculum and know exactly what students need
to know to get off to a fast start next year
Science
Get ready for either Biology or Chemistry. Our classes are small and we ensure that the topics covered
are relevant to all students. These classes preview next year's topics, particularly ones that challenge
students at the beginning of the year. As always, our instructors are intimately familiar with the local
curriculum and know exactly what students need to know to get off to a fast start next year
