Thank you for your interest in fundraising to support the work of The RSPCA. By raising funds to support the RSPCA you are helping to care for ‘all creatures great and small’ and are also supporting the Five Freedoms. The RSPCA believes all creatures should have five basic freedoms:

Freedom from hunger and thirst.

Freedom from discomfort.

Freedom from pain, injury and disease.

Freedom to express normal behaviour.

Freedom from fear and distress.

This workplace fundraising kit is designed to provide you with important information about fundraising for the RSPCA, including your responsibilities, use of the RSPCA logo and collecting and managing donations. It also includes forms that you can use to collect donor information, ensuring our valuable supporters will receive their tax deductible receipts for donations over $2.

How your fundraising activities can help ‘all creatures great and small’.

$100 can help care for a litter of kittens, ensuring the kittens have the loving care needed to be successfully rehomed.

$250 will desex an adult female dog and prepare her for adoption.

$350 will help teach students about the responsibilities of owning a pet and the importance of animal welfare.

$450 can help cover the cost of caring for a neglected horse for one week, including specialised dental care, vaccinations and worming.

$500 will help keep an Inspector on the road to investigate reports of animal cruelty.

$1,000 will help provide veterinary care to treat a dog’s broken leg.

$2,500 can help our Inspectors prosecute an animal cruelty offender.

By fundraising for the RSPCA, your efforts will have a direct and positive impact on animal welfare in Victoria.

Our staff and volunteers, and ‘all creatures, great and small’ thank you sincerely for your support.

We are all responsible for speaking up for those creatures that cannot speak for themselves!

With only 3% government funding, the RSPCA relies on the generous support of businesses and individuals to be able to continue its vital animal welfare work. It is the support of workplace fundraisers like you that enables us to care for animals in need.

The RSPCA’s objectives are to promote and enhance the well-being of society and the welfare of its animals by:

Educating the Victorian community regarding the humane treatment and management of animals, and increasing public awareness of and support for animal welfare.

Enforcing the existing laws to prevent cruelty to animals.

Influencing the amendment or development of legislation and standards considered necessary for the protection and welfare of animals.

As a non-government, community based animal welfare charity; RSPCA Victoria cares for over 37,000 animals in need each year. Our dedicated teams of shelter and veterinary staff provide care to stray, abandoned, neglected and abused animals, and our Inspectors investigate more than 14,000 reports of animal cruelty each year.

Encouraging and providing a sustainable, needs based network of animal welfare services across the state, for the care, shelter, treatment, rehabilitation, and protection of animals within the capacity and strategic directions of the organisation.

Providing relief programs to assist people within the community who are experiencing adverse circumstances, to enable them to care for, or manage, their animals.

RSPCA Victoria operates ten animal welfare shelters, which provide refuge and care for stray, injured and abandoned animals, as well as adoption and education services for the community.

Our shelters act as rehabilitation and adoption centres for unwanted, stray and injured animals, and as holding facilities for animals which are the subject of pending legal action by RSPCA Inspectors or local councils. Whilst a large proportion of these animals are cats and dogs and other companion animals, RSPCA shelters also offer sanctuary to horses, livestock and a wide range of wildlife.

Our shelters also incorporate adoption centres, which enable us to find new homes for animals that have been health and temperament checked, desexed and micro-chipped.

Along with our shelters, the RSPCA operates two veterinary clinics at Burwood East and Pearcedale. These veterinary clinics care for the sick and injured animals that enter our shelters and also provide a full range of veterinary services to the general public.

As part of our service to the community, the RSPCA Animal Ambulance provides 24-hour emergency care, seven days a week and is an important community resource for out-of-hours animal care. Our Animal Ambulances rescue more than 1,200 animals in distress each year.

Our Animal Ambulances rescue more than 1,200 animals in distress each year.

Busy as a Bee!Talk to your manager about organising a morning or afternoon tea at your workplace. Ask your colleagues to bake muffins, cakes, slices and biscuits and sell off your baked goods to raise some much needed funds for animals in need in the process. You could also ask your work mates to donate items for a raffle, with all of the proceeds being donated to your local RSPCA.

Cat got your tongue?Don’t be shy! Why not invite your colleagues around for a night of Karaoke fun? Ask everyone to make a gold coin donation and let the fun begin!

Wise as an Owl.Organise a trivia night with your workmates. Donate proceeds from the entry fee and test your knowledge on the RSPCA. You could ask questions about our history, campaigns, services and lots of other fun facts.

Proud as a Peacock!Do you think your pet is the cutest? Why not organise a ‘Cutest Pet’ competition at work. Ask your colleagues to bring along their favourite pet photo and ask for a gold coin donation to enter. You could ask your manager to choose the winning entry and let the winner and their beloved pet bask in the glory for years to come!

Eat like a Horse! Why not organise a fundraising lunch/afternoon tea. From a BBQ to scones and tea, the options are as broad as your imagination and for a small donation this is a delicious way to raise money!

Go Ape!Register a corporate team to participate in a walk, run or event of your choice and get sponsored. You can use the sponsorship/donation receipt form included in this kit (page 18) to record names and donation amounts, or you can set up your own fundraising page at www.everydayhero.com.au (please see page 8 for more information).

Casual for a Cause! If you don’t already enjoy a day at work when you can come in your casual clothes, talk to your manager about having a ‘causal’ day at work. Each employee who comes in ‘casual’ dress for the day can donate a gold coin to the RSPCA. Some workplaces even give employees the option to donate a set amount each year to be able to wear casual each Friday, and donate the proceeds to charity.

Wear us with Pride.Colourful RSPCA wristbands and cute paw print pins are available to sell at your workplace. At only $2 per wristband, or $3 per pin, RSPCA merchandise is a great way for people to show the world how much they care about animals.

If you have an idea of your own, please contact us so we can let you know if it fits within our fundraising guidelines.

There are a number of fun and exciting ways that your workplace can raise money for your local RSPCA. Below are just a few ideas to get you started!

Geoff Hall, Shelter Supervisor at RSPCA Castlemaine, has dedicated his working life to animals and is not afraid to ‘think outside the box’ when finding ways to spread the cat welfare message in his community. Geoff’s commitment and dry sense of humour have ensured the RSPCA has a loyal, hard working team of staff and volunteers at his shelter.

Sweep was surrendered to the RSPCA when he was six years old. When interviewed by adoption staff, he made it clear he did not want any competition for laps in his new home. Happily the besotted couple that adopted Sweep have made him the centre of their attention. Our Age Does Matter campaign highlighted the benefits of adopting adult cats just like Sweep.

Workplace GivingMore and more businesses are offering Workplace Giving to their employees as a means of giving back to the community by supporting local community based organisations.

As animals play such a big role in the lives of so many people in our society, and with Australia having one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world, there is a genuine need for animal welfare services in the community.

Workplace Giving is one of the simplest and most effective ways for a company and individuals to support the work of the RSPCA as it allows employees to make regular pre-tax donations to the RSPCA straight from their pay, with the RSPCA receiving the full donation. Many organisations are matching employee donations making employee donation dollars go even further!

To find out more about setting up a Workplace Giving program in your workplace, or to donate to the RSPCA in this way we encourage you to discuss this with your employer’s payroll department or contact 03 9224 2536 for employee and employer specific information about Workplace Giving.

For less than the cost of a take-away coffee each day, you can greatly impact the future of an abused, surrendered or abandoned animal in your local community.

Become an All Creatures SponsorAs an all creatures sponsor you can choose to sponsor a number of different areas of our operations including RSPCA Adoption animals, RSPCA Foster Care Animals, RSPCA rescued animals/Inspector Services and RSPCA Education Centre Animals.

Your support will help cover the cost of basic necessities such as food, water, shelter, veterinary treatment and animal attendant care for RSPCA animals. To find out more about this program contact our All Creatures Sponsorship Coordinator, on 03 9224 2536 or email [email protected].

Attend our EventsRSPCA Victoria has a number of exciting events throughout the year. You can support the RSPCA by attending one of these great events, such as the Million Paws Walk, held at Albert Park Lake each year in May, and World Animal day Gala Ball held in October.

Rain, hail or shine, several days each week for the past two years, Ross Marchal has risen early and made his way to RSPCA Burwood East. Waiting hopefully for Ross in the shelter are many enthusiastic dogs eager to stretch their legs and get some fresh air. Always happy to help with any job, Ross has tirelessly volunteered his time to provide vital exercise and human interaction to hundreds of appreciative four-legged friends.

Leo Hernandez is a member of the Maintenance team who are so important in maintaining and improving the infrastructure of our shelters, adoption centres, veterinary clinics and op shops across Victoria. Based at RSPCA Burwood East, Leo is regularly involved in the upkeep of the barn which our education animals, including Lily the goat, call home.

Lily came to the RSPCA at just the right time to fill a goat vacancy in our Education Department. Currently ‘in training,’ she is learning to walk on a lead and participates in mock classes. Lily is well suited to her new role as she loves to socialise which was evident when she literally jumped the fence to join the animals in the next pen.

Cleo and Jackie are an inseparable pair from the RSPCA Education team. Sadly, as younger sheep, both Cleo and Jackie were abandoned by their owners. Our Inspectors knew from the moment they rescued Cleo and Jackie that their friendly natures would make them perfect ambassadors for the RSPCA. These days, this duo love nothing more than being hand-fed by children visiting the RSPCA barn!
