After a difficult start in 2018, funding business works well. Reorganisation provoked a slump in demand for innovation projects in 2018, but

demand is taking up since May 2019. Demand for start-up coaching jumped up in 2018 and continues to do so in 2019. International cooperation has become much more important; Innosuisse has taken

over the responsibility for European innovation programmes in 2019 and will spend about 30 Mio. CHF therefor.

DEVELOPMENT OF PROJECT ACTIVITIES OF THE ETH DOMAIN

STUDY REGARDING LOW DEMAND

INTERFACE, commissioned by Innosuisse executed 40 interviews with research and implementation partners in order to determine the reasons for the low demand in 2018.

Main results: Uncertainty about funding criteria, processes, chances of success, etc. causes a “Wait-and-see-

attitude” especially amongst research partners. Greater distance to experts (decision makers) is deplored, competence of new experts in charge

is not known. Online application tool and application form offer room for improvement. Limited capacity due to ongoing projects.

Improvements with respect to the application process: Dates of the meetings of the IC subgroups are published on the website (better planning for

applicants). Funding criteria are presented better and more comprehensively on the website and explained

e.g. in a video. Special calls are launched (digitalisation, food, innovation based on “soft sciences”).
