Bremen is a cosmopolitan city rich in tradition and the second largest development center in Germany behind Hamburg . A center for business and commerce, Bremen’s future-oriented flair is reflected in the city’s recreational and cultural activities, vibrant nightlife, theatre, cinemas, museums, and flea markets. Every year since 1036, Bremen has hosted Freimarkt (“Free market”), one of the world’s oldest and, in Germany, one of today’s biggest continuously celebrated festivals.
Surrounding Area
Students live off-campus, enjoying city life and commuting to campus as many local students do. With guidance from the Bremen International Office, students are personally responsible for finding an apartment in Bremen. This should be done as soon as possible prior to the start of the semester.
Housing
Academics at HBUAS are complemented by the broad spectrum of programs and activities available to international students. Students who wish to practice conversational German skills can join university sports, the Theatre Group or the Brahms Choir; attend the annual international Literature Festival; or participate in HBUAS’s Adopt-a-Student Program. In addition, the International Office offers a wide variety of events and excursions for international students.
