1. Hand-turned Apostles stein. A 1687 stein made in the medieval town of Kreussen. The large liter capacity and squat shape is typical of Kreussen steins make in the 17th century. Fine details at the glowing enameled figures and antique matte finish. The body is turned by hand and the relief figures are molded afterward. The figures of the twelve apostles with Jesus are so detailed that the artists can complete the finishing matter glaze enamel on only ten steins a day. Limited edition. 8 1/2 inches high, 5 5/8 inches diameter.

2. An exquisite Victoria style glass stein. A superb stein created exclusively for the famous Hofbraeuhaus of Munich in 1895. Often presented to the groom at a Bavarian wedding by the bride’s father. A collector’s treasure of dark green crystal encased in an ornate filigree of pewter. The overlay features a Victorian style design with mascaroons. Topped with a conical pewter lid and finished with a sea serpent on the thumb lift. Hand-crafted in the old tradition by the Schreiner Studio of Germany. 9 1/2 inches high.

3. Victorian inspired antiqued pewter stein. The rare original was crafted in 1882 for the Imperial Court of German Emperor Wilhelm II. An opulent relief pattern focuses on a winged goddess with intertwining flowers, while a cupid rest upon the conical pewter lid. The antiqued pewter stein is from the original by craftsmen of Schreiner Co. established 200 years ago in Germany. The 10 5/8 inch stein has polished plaques for special personal engraving. $198.00.

4. Carl Spitzweg pewter stein. A tribute to the famous German illustrator and painter (1808-1885) is this finely engraved high relief collectible by WMF. Carl Spitzweg was truly an artist of thoughtful motives from the good old times. amongst a portrait of himself in the high raised pewter lid are his most famous paintings as “The Mailman”, “The Everlasting Bridegroom”, the Poor Poet”, “ The Old Friend”, and the thumb lift depicts “The Librarian”. 5. Pewter coin stein. This was crafted by the 17th century silversmith, Beltz who skillfully combined elegant lines with bold detailing to create a masterpiece. The bas-relief reflects the same fine craftsmanship. The bas relief 15th century coin design is inscribed in Latin and features profiles of Albrecht von Brandenburg, Duke of Prussia and Sigismund I, King of Poland. 8. Dr. Faust stein. According to legend Dr. Faust, a 16th century alchemist, sold his soul to the devil in exchange for magical powers. Goethe’s dramatic and poetic account of Faust in one of the great pieces of literature of all time. Peter Duemler (leading German sculptor of the 19th century) shows scenes from Goethe’s Faust in three panels. In the center is Faust and Gretchen. On the either side are Faust with Mephistopheles. Lid and thumb lift are heavily engraved solid pewter. Stoneware stein is 9 3/4 inches tall, 1/2 liter and is a limited edition. Peter Duemler signature stamped on bottom.

10. Albrecht Durer pewter stein. Albrecht Durer, German Renaissance artist (1472-1528) was a major influence on generation of artists in northern Europe. His extraordinary engraving of Knight, Death, and the Devil is featured in fine bas-relief on the facing panel of this pewter stein. The other panels are adorned with his Knight and Foot soldier, Dancing Farmer Couple and Market Place. The base is flanked by upright towers of Nuernberg patrician houses to define each panel, and on top is a pewter figurine of Albrecht Durer himself. 8 1/2 inches tall, 1/2 liter. 11. Declaration of Independence Stein. A commemorative stein with the famed painting of the signing of the Declaration of Independence by renowned artist John Trumbull (1756-1843) whose murals decorate the Capital Rotunda. The signing date and signatures surround the base and an American eagle tops the pewter lid. 16. Crystal drinking horn. Magnificent and the most beautiful of most steins. It is a creation of the renowned Bavarian Crystal Factory of Baron von Poschinger, Germany’s oldest crystallerie established in 1605. Hand-blown lead Crystal glass in hand-cut and hand-etched in exquisite detail. The pewter lid is beautifully polished with a satiny finish and topped with a sculpture of a barmaid. 19. Zum Roten Baeren pewter stein. Zum Roten Baeren (Red Bear Inn) is in the historic city of Freiburg located in the southern section of the Black Forest region. The centuries-old town is widely known for its beautiful gothic cathedral and is a favorite stopping place for students and travelers on holiday. The Inn was built around 1120 when Freiburg was foundered, and stands near the historic town wall and old tower. The heavy pewter stein focuses on a bas-relief medallion of “Red Bear Inn” shown in its town setting, framed by high-relief leaves and vines. 22. Rococo stein. A superb antique of a Thewalt original with an unusual bubble-flared bottom. It features a bevy of cherubs, sounding horns and hiding amidst the rococo curliques, lattice work and flowers, on a rich maroon background. 23. 175th Anniversary of Munich’s first Octoberfest stein. The Official stein issued by the city of Munich and the “Verein Oktoberfest Museum”. The genuine pewter lid depicts Crown Prince Ludwig I and Princess Therese on the occasion of their marriage in 1810. The first Oktoberfest was held to celebrate this royal wedding in Munich. People from Munich enjoyed it so much, they decided to hold an Oktoberfest every year that would last 16 boisterous days and nights. The hand-crafted stein is of glazed Gerz stoneware with blue ornamental motifs depicting elements of the fest and the historic Munich escutcheon. 7 3/4 inches tall, one liter.
