The introduction of the new ramp design tool in the Tu nnels Module rolls many small repetitive tasks into one tool and vastly improves the current ramp design process. Offering a more agile workow, users will also benet from the ability to make changes throughout the design process eliminating the need to start again when changes are necessary. With time saving functionality and improved workow, development design can be completed in a fraction of the time. COLLABORATIVE GEOLOGY AND MINE PLANNING SUPPORTING CROSS- FUNCTIONAL TEAMS

RAMP DESIGN

Ramp design is a frequently performed task by every Mine

Planner. Creating a highly efcient underground mine design,

with gradients and curvatures for ramps that have xed

entry or exit points, can be a complex manual task. With the

introduction of the ramp design tool in the Tunnels Module,

GEMS 6.6 now offers a set of dedicated tools that roll

multiple repetitive tasks into one easy step. With the ramp

design tool you can:

• Easily specify entry and exit points of ramps, both together

or individually avoiding manual calculation

of positions.

• Save time by selecting the most commonly used ramp

styles from a range of precongured templates.

• Rapidly evaluate and schedule resource extraction,

enabling quicker overall mine design.

• Complete mine development design faster when your

resource model changes as a result of volatility in

commodity prices or additional exploratory work.

REGRADE

Alleviating the current manual process for creating line segments

when updating existing lines and segments to new positions,

the line regrade feature, available as part of GEMS core, allows

specied grade parameters to be preserved when moving lines

or segments to new positions, eliminating the need to recreate

them from scratch. The process of checking co-ordinates and

manual calculation of gradients is also eliminated, enabling

even more time savings. Regrade allows for rapid redesign or

design modications when changes in level height are necessary

without the need to start from scratch.

GRADIENT SMOOTHING

The new gradient smoothing feature removes the need

to manually digitise incrementally changing segments. It

provides the ability to merge intersections with existing

tunnel centreline so that line segments transition smoothly.

This allows users to efciently create seamless mine designs.

With the gradient smoothing feature, you can:

• Quickly and easily blend portions of a development design

to create robust mine plans.

• Specify maximum gradient change, ensuring equipment

performance tolerances are maintained.

USER EXPERIENCE ENHANCEMENTS

Additional enhancements to GEMS include licensing changes

to enable multiple dongle use on the same machine; new viewoptions (XY,YZ,XZ buttons), which allow the user to quickly

navigate to axis oriented views; a new le export format for

solids that utilizes the extended character name introduced in

GEMS 6.5 as well as numerous quality improvements.

“The new tools in GEMS are great —

especially the quick views, which provide a

more fexible and intuitive way to view data

The new ramp design and regrade tools are

also very helpful in reducing the time it takes

to create ramp designs.”
