GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION Hattenburg Dilley & Linnell (HDL) is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Manager. This is a full-time regular position that manages geologists, geotechnical engineers, and material testing technicians and engineers. Work will include federal, state and local sponsored projects. Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1. Manage geotechnical and geological analyses, manage staff and supporting subconsultants and studies, conduct research, perform preliminary geological reconnaissance, geotechnical and geological studies, review testing results, and develop design recommendations. 2. Interface with clients, design teams, and public. 3. Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures and function as technical specialist or project manager. 4. Interact with support staff including AutoCAD drafters, document production staff, and graphics technicians. 5. Develop, manage, and/or perform field work for geotechnical and geological studies in accordance with various public agencies, and private clients. 6. Prepare documents detailing analysis and recommendations. 7. Critically review testing results, design recommendations, and documents detailing the studies/projects conducted. 8. Manage budgets, write and edit reports and proposals. Education/Credentials Alaska PE, preferred Minimum 10 years direct geotechnical engineering experience A BSCE is required, MS preferred

JOB DESCRIPTION Hattenburg Dilley & Linnell (HDL) is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Manager. This is a full-time regular position that manages geologists, geotechnical engineers, and material testing technicians and engineers.  Work will include federal, state and local sponsored projects.

Education/Credentials

 Experience

• Familiarity will multiple aspects of geotechnical engineering • Arctic and subarctic design • Understanding and use of variety of field exploration techniques • Pile design and pile testing • Slope stability analysis • Groundwater hydrology • Understanding and design of geosynthetic material • Understanding and use of various field instrumentation • Borrow/quarry source studies and material handling • Strong geology skills • Soil, concrete, and asphalt testing procedures and construction testing

1. Must possess excellent writing capabilities. Must possess the skill to write clear, concise technically excellent geotechnical documents with strong attention to detail.

2. Must have strong interpersonal and leadership skills, public involvement skills, oral communication skills, and a desire to work with diverse interest groups.

3. Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgment and professionalism.

4. Must be self-motivated and have the ability to manage projects and budgets.

5. Must be able to write proposals, geotechnical and geological documents.

6. Must be a team player, who has the patience and skill to train and mentor other geotechnical staff in the course of developing geotechnical documents.

7. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific work and technical journals.

8. Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook software.

9. Must have ability to respond to questions and criticisms from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

10. Must have the ability to travel and work in remote areas under adverse conditions.

Compensation

HDL offers a competitive salary and benefit package and is an equal opportunity employer. Salary range is $75,000 to $125,000 per year depending on experience, plus bonuses and benefits.
