Help support our mission: News and Stories Athlete Learns From A Two-Time Pro Bowler The weekend of June 4-5 was no ordinary weekend for Special Olympics Georgia Athlete, Gibby Durden. That weekend, Gibby attended the ProCam ps Football Camp hosted by two-time Pro Bowler and star Running Back of the Atlanta Falcons, Devonta Freem an. Gibby, who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, was integrated into a team of fellow athletes who knew how to play on Gibby's special talent: catching and running the football, just like Devonta. Gibby was such an am azing athlete that he even caught the attention of the football star, who spent time throwing the ball back-and-forth with him and even complimented him on his athleticism and teamwork. Gibby was also nominated for "Cam per of the Day." Along with the rest of the campers, Gibby learned offensive and defensive techniques that will make him a weapon on any football team. "Watch out for Gibby! He has good hands. He's good," his com petitors shouted as Gibby led his team to two victories at the camp, receiving high-fives by all. A Permanent Home for Special Olympics Georgia Exciting news is on the horizon for Special Olympics Georgia, and we want to share it with you first! After m any years of due diligence and thoughtful consideration, the Special Olym pics Georgia Board of Directors has launched our first-ever capital campaign to build a permanent headquarters in metro Atlanta for Special Olympics Georgia and our thousands of athletes, coaches, volunteers and families. In this one-of-a-kind multi-purpose facility, we will host athletic trainings and qualifiers for our annual State gam es; train volunteers and coaches on-site; provide educational and advocacy inform ation for our constituents; host com m unity events and m ore! Upcoming Events Duck Pluck Tagging Party August 3 We are seeking volunteers for our "Tagging Party". The goal of the Duck Pluck Tagging Party is to unload, label and reload 10,000 yellow rubber ducks. This event will take place at our office located at 4000 DeKalb Technology Parkway; Suite 400; Building 400; Atlanta, GA 30340 on Wednesday, August 3rd from 8:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m . Athlete Learns From A Two-Time Pro BowlerThe weekend of June 4-5 was no ordinary weekend forSpecial Olympics Georgia Athlete, Gibby Durden. Thatweekend, Gibby attended the ProCamps FootballCamp hosted by two-time Pro Bowler and star RunningBack of the Atlanta Falcons, Devonta Freeman.

Gibby, who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, wasintegrated into a team of fellow athletes who knew howto play on Gibby's special talent: catching and runningthe football, just like Devonta.

Gibby was such an amazing athlete that he even caught the attention of the footballstar, who spent time throwing the ball back-and-forth with him and evencomplimented him on his athleticism and teamwork. Gibby was also nominated for"Camper of the Day."

Along with the rest of the campers, Gibby learned offensive and defensivetechniques that will make him a weapon on any football team.

Athlete of the Month: Paige CopelandPaige Copeland has an endless list ofaccomplishments when it comes to her athleticismand competition. She has more medals than onecan count, and has won gold in many of the sportsshe has competed in, including tennis at the 2016Summer Games.

Volunteer of the Month: Elease TurnerElease Turner is the epitome of a volunteer,dedicating her entire time and energy into giving back,as seen at this year's Summer Games.

During Summer Games, Elease volunteered to dowhatever task Special Olympics Georgia staffmembers needed, and during the entirety of theGames, Elease organized and ran the VolunteerCheck-In station, making sure all resources wereavailable and that every volunteer was greeted with asmile and the best instructions possible. Sheadditionally assisted at venues when needed, helping to set-up and take downvolunteer tents and tables.

Genuine and wholehearted, the Special Olympics Georgia staff could not haveasked for a better volunteer.
