Georgian Acres Neighborhood: Background➢ District 4

➢ Area was largely unplanned until 2006

➢ Park-deficient neighborhood

➢ Young population; highest amount of children in Austin

➢ High diversity; 69.2% Hispanic or Latino (2018)

➢ Large immigrant population; 35.6% born outside of the US (2018)

Georgian Acres Neighborhood ParkThis new park has been under construction since September 2019. Park completion is anticipated for Summer 2020.

The goals of Austin’s Parks and Recreation Department for designing this park included:

• Respond to the needs of the neighborhood, including opportunities for multiple cultures and age groups to connect;

• Preserve the beautiful, mature trees;• Create a sustainable green space; and• Provide opportunities for people to meet their neighbors and

bring community together.

Artist EligibilityApplicant requirements:

➢Professional visual artist, or artist team;

➢At least 18 years of age; and

➢Live in the 7-county Austin metropolitan area (Williamson, Travis, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Burnet, and Blanco counties).

Applicants are ineligible if they are also:

➢Full-time, permanent City of Austin employees;

➢Employees of the project consultants and sub-consultants; or

➢Artists who are under an active contract with the AIPP program

Artist Selection➢ Open call to local artists; open for 2 months

➢ A 3-person selection jury will choose 3-5 finalists; followed by artist interviews (unless the jury chooses 1 artist and 1 alternate at their first meeting)

➢ Recommendations to the AIPP Panel and Arts Commission for approval

➢ The artist will be engaged in a design + commission contract

Elegibilidad del artistaRequisitos del solicitante:

➢Un artista visual profesional o equipo de artistas;

➢Al menos 18 años de edad; y

➢Vivir en el área metropolitana de Austin de 7 condados (condados de Williamson, Travis, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Burnet y Blanco.

Los solicitantes NO son elegibles si:

➢Son empleados de tiempo completo, y permanente de la City of Austin;

➢ Empleados de los consultores y subconsultores del proyecto; o
