TRANSCRIPT
Georgia Milestones
• Coherent
– Consistent expectations regarding rigor and student preparedness within grades and courses and with external measures
• Comprehensive
– Single program across the subjects and grades
• Consolidate
– Reading, language arts, and writing into one assessment
Comprehensive
• Grades 3 – 8 – End of Grade (EOG) in language arts, mathematics,
science, social studies
• High School – End of Course (EOC) in 9th Grade Literature & Composition,
American Literature & Composition, Coordinate Algebra, Analytic Geometry, Physical Science, Biology, US History, and Economics
Consolidated Consolidation of English Language Arts
• English Language Arts and reading will be combined and a writing component added for every grade level and course within the ELA assessment
• One overall ELA score and proficiency designation
• Reporting categories below the overall content area will be reported similar to the domains on the CRCT
• Cannot make proficiency claims at the lower level reporting categories
Georgia Milestones Transition to Online Starts this school year
•Online administration will be the primary mode of administration for Georgia Milestones for all grades
– Year 1: minimum of 30% online
– Year 3: minimum of 80% online
– Year 5: minimum of 100% online
•EVERY School will participate in online testing this school year
Georgia Milestones
Transition to Online Starts this school year •Administration procedures will change
•Online practice center will be available for students
•Tablets supported beginning with Spring 2015 main administrations.
– iPads supported beginning Winter 2014 EOC
•Paper/pencil versions will be available through all years of the transition for the small number of students who cannot interact with computer due to their disability. Braille forms will be available as well.
Georgia Milestones
Things to note….
•Test windows are similar to last school year – Future years will be adjusted as more online added
•Test administration and support materials will be made available over the coming months
Georgia Milestones
Things to note….
•First year results will be delayed until fall of 2015 due to standard setting
•The State Board has waived through July 2015:
– 160-4-2-.11 Promotion, Placement, and Retention sections (3)(a), (3)(b), (3)(c)
– 160-4-2-.13 Statewide Passing Score sections (2)(d), (2)(e), (2)(f)
•Fulton County Board will review Policy IHE —Promotion and Retention, sections IIA, IIB, IIC, and IID this month
Georgia Milestones Blended: Criterion-Referenced and Norm-Referenced
Georgia Milestones will provide:
• criterion-referenced performance information in the form of four performance levels, depicting students’ mastery of state standards
‒ new performance levels
• norm-referenced performance information in the form of national percentiles, depicting how students’ achievement compares to peers nationally
Embedded NRT
• Each content area/course test will contain 20 norm-referenced items.
• The 20 NRT items will provide a national percentile score to provide a barometer of national comparison.
• The NRT items were selected to reflect the full TerraNova subtest for each content area.
*
Item Types
• Selected-Response [aka, multiple-choice]
– all content areas
– evidence-based selected response in ELA
• Constructed-Response
– ELA and mathematics
• Extended-Response
– ELA and mathematics
• Technology Enhanced
– to begin in 2016-2017
Georgia Milestones
General Test Parameters
•ELA - 3 sections, 1 of which will focus mainly on writing
•Mathematics, Science and Social Studies will consist of 2 sections
•Each section will be approximately 70 minutes.

Rubrics
• Rubrics are item specific and therefore cannot be released.
– Generally speaking, rubrics outline the expectations for the answer(s) along with sufficient justification/explanation
• Student cites evidence from the text to support answer in ELA
• Student explains reasoning or approach to problem solving in mathematics
• Student answers all portions of the item
– Remember the OAS includes rubrics and student exemplars for all formative open-ended items.
• The extended-response analytic writing rubric will be released. Students will be scored on two features:
– Idea Development, Organization, & Coherence
– Language Usage & Conventions
Georgia Milestones Lessons learned from state formative assessment pilot last year….
• Students are not familiar with constructed response items
•Many respond ‘dnk’ – as in ‘do not know’
• Don’t seem to understand the need to “show” their work, detail their thoughts, rationales, cite evidence to support their answer or claim
•Tendency is to cite answer only – as if a multiple-choice item
• Don’t read careful and answer all parts of the question/item
Writing at Every Grade Level
All students will encounter a constructed-response item
allowing for narrative prose, in response to text, within the
1st or 2nd test section.
Writing at Every Grade Level
Writing Section:
ostudents read a pair of passages & complete “warm-up” items
✓3 selected-response items asking about the salient features of
each passage & comparing/contrasting between the two passages
✓1 constructed-response item – link the 2 passages
✓1 writing prompt - students must cite evidence to support their
conclusions, claims, etc.
