Student Leadership

Student leadership at GRC Oatley Senior truly reflects thequality of students we have in our school. At our school, studentleadership is expected and practised on a daily basis. Thequality of this leadership, especially that demonstrated by theCaptains, Vice Captains, SRC Presidents and the SRC, is acritical determinant in creating loyalty, pride and ethics withinour school. Student leadership is about giving respect, notdemanding respect. It’s about respecting the human rights oreveryone, of other people and your own.

I am extremely confident that our incoming 2021 SRC willrise to the challenge and build on the strong legacy that lastyear’s student leadership team have left. They will be chargedwith successfully implementing changes to structures withinthe school from a student perspective, as well as being thesounding board when students’ views on issues relating to theirschool are required.

I am delighted to announce again the following executive of thestudent leaders:

P&C AGM

Our P&C AGM will be held on Monday 29th March 2021 inthe Horseshoe Theatre. Parents, as partners in the educationprocess, have a right and a responsibility to play an active rolein the education of their children. The P&C enables parentsand citizens to meet together to determine the needs andaspirations of the school community.

P & C meetings provide a forum for parents to learn aboutthe activities at the school, raise concerns and have input intothe decisions affecting their children. I am looking forward tomeeting with you on Monday.

School and P&C Contributions

The School Contribution schedules were sent out to all familieslast week. These schedules enable parents to identify whatmonies are owed for their child. Invoices will include anyoutstanding compulsory subject fees owing from last year.

We appreciate the many families who have already paid thesefees and contributions, thus allowing us to place the necessaryorders for equipment that will be used to support your child’slearning in 2021.

Our P&C Association welcomes payment of the P&Ccontribution, which also assists the school to provide additional

resources above those provided for through global fundingsources.

Uniform

GRC Oatley Senior Campus is a uniform school. The schooluniform creates an identity for our school and is an importantpart of being a school student.

It is essential that all students are in correct school uniformevery day and wear the uniform correctly during school hours, while travelling to and from school, and when engaged inschool activities out of school hours.

Our school uniform reflects school community standards andexpectations. It was developed in consultation with and agreedupon by the school community. It is based on a strong studentand parent voice.

Please support us in ensuring that your child arrives to schoolin full school uniform. The school uniform requires all studentsto be in black leather shoes and navy socks.

Intake area update

In a move towards creating greater education equity for allfamilies and students in the local area, positive changes areafoot for the greater Georges River College Campuses.

Across the Georges River College 7-10 Campuses, intakeareas will be updated for prospective Year 7 students fromTerm 1, 2022 to give them a choice of both co-ed and

3

Page 4: Georges River College Oatley eNewsletter

single-sex options where they historically only had a single-sexchoice.

The new intake area only applies to Year 7 enrolments in 2022and will gradually extend to all grades by 2025 while the existing2021 intake areas remain in place for Years 8-10 in 2022.

An update to the Georges River College Oatley Campus givesstudents, both male and female, living in the new intake areathe option of attending GRC Oatley in Years 11 and 12. Femalestudents, living in the new local intake area north of StoneyCreek Road also have the option, as previously, of attendingBeverly Hills Girls High School in the senior years. The localintake area changes for Georges River College, Oatley Campuscomes into effect immediately from Term 1, 2021.

The reason for these changes came about after analysis ofdemographic and enrolment trends at GRC 7-10 Campusesshowing:

There was no co-educational choice for students living in theintake areas for the GRC Hurstville Boys Campus and GRCPenshurst Girls Campus.

A surplus capacity at the GRC Peakhurst Campus which couldabsorb an increase in enrolments from students seeking aco-educational choice.

We encourage all parents and carers, as well as school staffto visit School Finder from 11 February, 2021 for updatedinformation.

Careers FeatureOn the 10th January 2021, I was given an opportunity to goMacquarie University's Year 12 leadership forum.

This gave me the opportunity to learn new things aboutleadership and at the same time meet students from differentschools across NSW.

We attended “campfire sessions” where Macquarie Universitystudents would share their year 12 experiences and talk aboutuniversity life. We participated in activities and listened to guessspeakers who spoke about:

Guess speaker from the UAC also spoke about the process ofapplying to University and the different

ways you can apply such as early entry.

What did I learn?

We were also provided morning tea and lunch which gave usan opportunity to socialise and get to know students from otherschools.
