WINTER WEATHER IS UPON US!
Always beware of the temperature outside and dress according.
With the cold weather here, students are reminded that they should arrive at school no sooner than 8:40am and 12:40 pm.
Students are required to wait outside until bell time.
Please be sure that your child is dressed for the weather. We have very little extra clothing at school, so please be sure that
your child is dressed with proper clothing and footwear.
When Temperature Reaches -27 C
School Patrols and Walking School Bus will not run when the temperature is at or
below -27 C. At this temperature indoor recesses occur.
Call 204-729-8508 for weather/wind-chill up date
Radio stations announce temperature each morning
The school will monitor the temperature and resume patrols and the walking school bus if the temperature is appropriate at noon and 3:35pm
Please dress sensibly for the weather
LOOKING FOR MITTENS
With the cold weather approaching quickly, George
Fitton School is looking for donations of mittens, new
or used in good, clean condition. New winter hats
would also be helpful.
Thank you!
Mrs. Krieser, Home School Liaison of George Fitton School, is looking
for boys and girls clothing, size 6 to 16.
Please drop items at the office. Any donations are
greatly appreciated!
Youth Revolution – We Scare Hunger
The Youth Revolution Leadership team’s “We Scare Hunger”
campaign was very successful! During the week of Oct. 24-
Oct. 28 students were asked to bring in non-perishable food
items to donate to the Samaritan House. A total of 669
food items were collected from our students! Great job
George Fitton! Thank you to the parents who helped make
this such a successful campaign! Also, congratulations to
Ms. Meadows gr.7/8 class. They were the big winners of a
pizza party for collecting the most food items!
We are currently working our next campaign which is
collecting new and gently used Christmas decorations for
the Helping Hands Soup Kitchen. Y-R members will be
decorating the soup kitchen on Dec. 1st. They are in need of
Christmas decorations and ornaments. Home-made ones are
welcome, as well. Thank you for your help and contributions!
7/8 Girls’ Volleyball
This season was extraordinary to say the very
least. Yes, we’ve had our ups and downs, but
all we’ve had an amazing time during the
season. Our team has grown stronger with
every game and practice so much, and we feel
completely confident. We have had major wins
and minor losses, but continued to play as a
team.
“OOOH… YES, YES, GFS!”
East Side Band Fundraising Information
The East Side Band Parent Council runs a fundraiser
continuously throughout the year. Each student has a "band
account" that is their own for their fundraising money.
Money in this account can be used towards any East Side
Band fee: band uniforms, supplies, the Gr. 8 Band Camp and
the Gr. 8 Moose Jaw trip.
By far the best fundraising opportunity for individual
student accounts year in and year out have been Sobeys'
grocery vouchers. The grocery vouchers can be used at
Sobeys' or Safeway. Cards are available in $50
denominations with 5% of each card going directly into
students' band accounts. Students in the past have been
able to pay for their entire Grade 8 band trips on Sobeys
vouchers alone!
If you are interested in purchasing Sobeys' grocery
vouchers, you can contact any of the following people:
Kerrie Gibbs – 204-573-5414 or [email protected]
Jen Shymanski – 204-573-4944
If you have questions about the fundraisers, or your child’s
band account, please contact Ms. Dodds at
Thanks!

Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences
Our Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences were a great success in November. We appreciate you taking time
to come to the school to meet with your child’s teachers. It is important to maintain a relationship of good communication between home and school to
ensure that our student’s needs are being met. Thank you for your continued support in working with us to provide the best possible learning experience for your
child.
If you were unable to attend the Student/Parent/Teacher Conference, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a time that you can
meet to discuss your child’s progress.
Roots of Empathy
Our Roots of Empathy classrooms learned all
about why babies cry. The students were able
to describe reasons why babies cry; i.e. sleepy,
hungry, need a diaper change, need comforting,
or may be teething. Our moms gave us
suggestions as to what they do when the baby
cries and cries. It’s never okay to hit or shake
a baby, so mom may get help from friends or
family when babies are unhappy for long
periods of time. It was fun to see how our
babies are growing! This month’s theme is
“Caring and Planning for the Baby.”
Mrs. McCannell
Thank you to Michaels of Brandon for the generous donation of items for our Christmas
store. Special thanks to Manager, Carolyn Davie, for thinking of George Fitton School!
The following is a calendar of events for lunch hour clubs in December. Card Club is working hard to make tags
and bags for the Christmas Store. George Fitton School appreciated their help. Just a reminder that your child can
stay for lunch on their club day. Thank you, Ms. Greig
Just a reminder that the Grade 1/2 Classes are continuing to help the Earth by recycling the following items:
