Page 2: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Starts in 2.4 – Playing in Complex Geometries

Trimming under control Closing and Complementing Using the Tool Bars & your Mouse

Page 3: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Set Millimeter as Units Grid: 100; 10 and Snap Off – Constraints On

Page 4: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Constrain for size and then position: (25 x 50 to XY zero)

Set Length of the Top line and Left side Line – NOT offset!!!

Page 5: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Pad to 100 mm!

Page 6: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Edit the Sketch:

1st Remove Bottom Line horizontal Const. 2nd Remove Right Side Vertical Const. Finally, Remove Locational Constraints

(object is red! ---underconstrained) Select the Lower right point and drag it with

your mouse – to the “V-shape” This will automatically redefine your pad!

Page 7: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Enter Sketcher on Right Face

Page 8: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Draw and Constrain 2x30 mm dia. Circles

Then:

Draw 2 bi-tangent lines between them and Trim the circles between (these operations are not shown)

Page 9: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

The 2 intersecting lines were double “Broke”

Trim and Break in this tool bar!

Further Modifications:

Sketch on the last Pad

“3D project” the edges of the arcs – then Isolate them from the part

After isolation: Close the Top one Complement the

lower – and connect the ends with a line

These sketches will form a 3rd pad away from the face!

Page 11: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Make Sure the Bottom Arc and Line Close the lower edge & Pad to 10mm:

Page 12: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Draw and Constrain 2 Rectangles – Double Click the Constraint ICON to string together constraints as needed!

Then Trim the Inside Lines and Fillet the ‘inside corners’

Page 13: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

1st Corner: Pick corner point, then Tab to Radius and type 8 (then tab again)! 2nd Corner: Select both lines then tab to radius, type 5 and tab!

Page 14: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Apply Chamfers to outside corners – will be easy if rectangles dimensions were limited not lengths!

Page 15: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Finally POCKET this ‘Rectangles’ Sketch “Up to Last”

Lets spend a few minutes with Axes, Shaft, Mirror and their Kind – Tutorial 2.5

We are going to model a Wagon Wheel – the easy way!

We can develop simple geometries and revolve (or SHAFT) them about axes

Symmetrical shapes can be copied in many patterns – so why make them more than once!

Page 17: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Draw and Constrain the Profile

Add offset Constraint (100) last! Then draw the vertical axis

Page 18: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Might be quicker to Fillet the corners before shafting the sketch

Page 19: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Choose Shaft and Fill in as below:

Page 20: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Sketch on YZ plane – draw Axis and draw and Constrain Profile for Hub

Visualization Menu was hidden – I pulled it up from the bottom and clicked ‘Cut Part by Sketch Plane’

Page 21: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Get Reference Elements Tools – we will be defining a new plane relative to original XY plane!

Page 22: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Adding Working (Additional Sketch) Planes is the true power of 3D Cad design!

Page 23: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

We made it – lets use it – enter sketcher on this plane (see location in Part Tree)

Once in Sketcher Find and Drag out the “Transformation” toolbar

Page 24: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

One of the Ellipses – ready for “Rotated Array”

Page 25: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Follow the Instruction in the message line! Object – Center or Axis (here the center point) - Angle

Page 26: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Pad the Spokes to 11 mm – then Fillet all the edges of the spokes (all 16 of them!)

Page 27: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Pick and Roll ‘til all “side faces” are Highlighted – all 16 of them too!

Page 28: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Now for finishing the Hub Details – Using Symmetry and Mirror

Page 29: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

I selected all 3 sides of the Constrained Triangle – Then Mirror Icon – then the Axis!

Page 30: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

After Selecting each side of both Triangles – Then Mirror (1 instance) and the Center – Exit Sketcher and Pocket ‘Up to Last’

Page 31: Geometry Control – Modifying and Relimiting; Using Axes and Transformation Ideas Chapter 2: 2.4 & 2.5 R. Lindeke IE 1225

Finished Product – done easily with Transformations and “Shafting Power”
