This Tutorial Tutorial Objective In this tutorial you will learn how to create highly intelligent geospatial PDF files from your GeoWorkspace (gws) files.

Tutorial Data Set This training tutorial is designed to illustrate the functionality and capabilities provided by GeoMedia PDF. The sample data set used in these exercises represents a typical 1:50,000 scale map sheet produced by the Danish National Mapping Agency, Kort & Matrikelstyrelsen (KMS) – Danish Ministry of the Environment, National Survey and Cadastre. This data set is a modified version of the data set that is provided for the GeoMedia Map Publisher tutorials. Unzip the data set to the C:\ folder, so the resulting data set folder is C:\GeoMediaPDF. There are two GeoWorkspaces provided; KMS_50K.gws and KMS_50K – Defined.gws. KMS_50K.gws is the GeoWorkspace referenced in this tutorial. KMS_50K – Defined.gws represents the state of the GeoWorkspace upon completion of this tutorial, i.e., Layers, Attributes, and Metadata have been defined. Hexagon Geospatial would like to extend its appreciation to Kort & Matrikelstyrelsen (KMS) for their cooperation in this endeavor.

Introduction to GeoMedia PDF

Section Objective This tutorial is designed to provide an introduction to GeoMedia PDF commands and explores some of the basic concepts, processes, and commands while exporting to highly intelligent geospatial PDF files. Commands Used Geospatial PDF Layers Provides options to organize the PDF layers that appear in the exported geospatial PDF file. Layer definitions can be defined based on the map window Display Order, Group definitions, or user defined to address exported PDF requirements.

Geospatial PDF Attributes Provides the functionality to identify the specific feature attributes that are exposed in the exported geospatial PDF file. Exposed attributes can represent a subset of available feature attributes and can be renamed to address exported PDF requirements.

Geospatial PDF CMYK Output Provides the ability to define the output color model (RGB or CMYK) in the exported geospatial PDF file. CMYK options include a generic RGB-to-CMYK color conversion, or a user-defined color mapping of input RGB color values that map to output CMYK color values.

Geospatial PDF Metadata Provides the ability to embed user-defined metadata in the exported geospatial PDF file. The user-defined metadata is defined through the Extensible Metadata Platform, an ISO standard created by Adobe Systems Inc.

Geospatial PDF Export Options Provides assorted options for the export process to address single map sheet output or multiple map sheet output. Export options also include the ability to specify the required Adobe PDF Settings File (*.joboptions).

Organizing Geospatial PDF Layers

Objective: The objective of this exercise is to organize your map window layers in the way that you would like them to appear in the exported geospatial PDF file.

Task 1: To create menu, group and layer nodes

1. Start GeoMedia and open C:\GeoMediaPDF\GeoWorkspaces\KMS_50K.gws.

2. Click anywhere on the map window to give it focus. This will provide access to all the GeoMedia ribbon commands, including the PDF tab. If the layout window has focus, only commands associated with the layout window are available on the GeoMedia ribbon.

3. On the PDF tab, select Layers to open the Geospatial PDF Layers dialog.

4. Right-click anywhere in the Acrobat Layers pane, then from the shortcut menu, use the Insert Menu, Insert Group, and Insert Layer to create a layer structure as shown on the next page.

• Insert Menu inserts a menu node, represented by the folder icon, to the root of the layer menu tree. The menu node is a container for additional menus, groups and layers.

• Insert Group inserts a group node, represented by the multiple page icon, to the root of the layer menu tree. The group node is a container of additional groups and layers.

• Insert Layer opens the PDF Legend Entries dialog through which you select a specific legend entry to insert into the layer node. Select the feature, then click

Select. The layer node, represented by the eye icon, is a container of features. Legend entries that have been inserted to the Acrobat Layers pane are display in red in the Legend Entries pane.

Task 2: To drag-and-drop legend entries into the layer menu tree

1. From the Legend Entries pane, click-and-hold the legend entry that you want to insert into the layer menu tree, then drag the legend entry to the location in the Acrobat Layers tree where you want it inserted. In this case, the Text Group.

Task 3: To rename nodes in the layer menu tree

1. From the Acrobat Layers tree, right-click the menu node, group node or layer node that you want to rename in the layer menu tree, then from the shortcut menu, click Rename. The node appears in edit mode so that you can type a new name.

2. Press Enter on your keyboard or click outside of the text field.

Task 4: To remove nodes from the layer menu tree

1. From the Acrobat Layers pane, right-click the menu node, group node or layer node that you want to remove from the layer menu tree, then from the shortcut menu, click Remove.

You can also highlight the node to remove, then press Delete on your keyboard.

2. At the confirmation prompt, click OK.

Task 5: To clear the layer menu tree

1. Right-click in the Acrobat Layers pane away from any layers, then from the right-click shortcut menu, click Clear All.

Task 6: To arrange layers as they appear on the Display Order or Groups tab

1. Right-click anywhere in the Acrobat Layers pane, then from the shortcut menu, click either Initialize From Display Order Tab or Initialize From Groups Tab.

2. Click OK to save the settings and dismiss the dialog.

Identifying Geospatial PDF

Attributes Objective: This exercise illustrates how to specify which attributes and their associated values are embedded in the exported geospatial PDF file.

Task 1: To specify feature class attributes to embed in the geospatial PDF file

1. On the PDF tab, select Attributes to open the Geospatial PDF Attributes dialog.

2. From the Maps list box, select the map from which you want to embed attributes and their associated fields, in this case Map Window 1.

3. Click the plus sign (+) to expand the legend entries from which to select attributes to embed in the geospatial PDF file.

4. Click the check boxes adjacent to the fields of a few features that you want to embed as attributes in the geospatial PDF file.

You can rename a field to provide clarity. Place a check next to the item you wish to rename, then right-click the field and from the shortcut menu click Rename. The field appears in edit mode so that you can type a name. Press Enter on your keyboard or click outside of the text field to save your entry. The former name appears in parenthesis to the right of the new name.

5. Click OK to save the settings and close the dialog.

You can quickly return the feature class attributes to their original state by clicking Revert.

Defining Geospatial PDF CMYK Output

Objective: This exercise illustrates how to specify whether the exported geospatial PDF file is based on the CMYK color model rather than the RGB color model.

Task 1: Mapping the RGB color model to the CMYK color model

1. On the PDF tab, select CMYK to open the Geospatial PDF CMYK Output dialog.

2. Click Selected Mapping to list the following options:

• Disabled (default) prevents GeoMedia PDF from converting the RGB color model to the CMYK color model for the exported geospatial PDF file.

• Automatic performs a conversion from the RGB color model to the CMYK color model for the exported geospatial PDF file.

• <custom mapping name> performs the conversion from the RGB color model to the CMYK color model based on the settings you define in the Geospatial PDF Color Mapping File Editor or in an XML mapping file that you create.

Task 2: Creating a custom color mapping file

1. Click New Mapping. The Geospatial PDF Color Mapping File Editor dialog displays.

RGB component values are integers in the range 0-255. CMYK component values are integers in the range 0-100, representing floating point values (percentages) in the range 0-1.

RGB values that are not found in the color mapping file are converted with a default color mapping algorithm.

2. Type an integer value from 0 to 255 in the Red, Green and Blue cells.

When you type a value in a cell or insert a check mark in the check box preceding a mapping row, a new mapping row appears.

3. Map the RGB color model to the CMYK color model by typing an integer value from 0 to 100 in the Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black cells.

To delete a mapping row, insert a check mark in the check box for each mapping row that you want to delete, and then click Delete Selected Rows. This button is disabled until you select one or more mapping rows.

To clear the values in the mapping rows, click Reset.

4. Click Save to open the Save To Color Mappings File dialog.

5. In the File name text box, type the name of this color mapping XML file.

If you save your color mapping XML file to a folder other than the default Color Mapping folder, your color mapping file is not available from the Selected Mapping list box in the Geospatial PDF CMYK Output dialog.

6. Click Save to return to the Geospatial PDF Color Conversion Editor dialog.

7. Click OK to return to the Geospatial PDF CMYK Output dialog.

If you choose to create a new XML color mapping file outside of the Geospatial PDF Color Mapping File Editor, place the new file in your C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Intergraph\GeoMedia PDF\Color Mapping folder to ensure that it is available from the Selected Mapping list box.

Task 3: To edit a custom color mapping file

1. On the PDF tab, select CMYK to open the Geospatial PDF CMYK Output dialog.

2. From the Selected Mapping list box, click the color mapping file that you want to edit, then click Edit Mapping. The Geospatial PDF Color Mapping File Editor dialog appears.

3. Modify the RGB and/or CMYK values as needed.

4. Click Save, then click OK to return to the Geospatial PDF CMYK Output dialog.

You can also click OK to save your edited color mapping XML file and return to the Geospatial PDF CMYK Output dialog.

Task 4: To delete a custom color mapping file

1. From the Selected Mapping list box, click the color mapping file that you want to delete, then click Delete Mapping.

2. Click OK to close the dialog.

Embedding Geospatial PDF Metadata

Objective: This exercise illustrates how to embed an external XMP metadata file in the exported geospatial PDF file.

Task 1: To embed metadata in the geospatial PDF file

1. On the PDF tab, select Metadata to open the Geospatial PDF Metadata dialog.

2. From the Sheets list box, click the sheet into which you want to embed the external XMP file.

3. Click Browse to open the Select XMP File for sheet <name> dialog. Navigate to C:\GeoMediaPDF\GeoWorkspaces, select VORDINGBORG.xmp, and click Open.

4. Click OK to save the setting and close the dialog.

Exporting Geospatial PDF Objective: This exercise illustrates how to export the active layout sheet to a single geospatial PDF file, or multiple layout sheets to multiple geospatial PDF files.

Task 1: To export map sheets to geospatial PDF files

1. On the PDF tab, select Export to open the Geospatial PDF Export Options dialog.

2. To export the active layout sheet to a geospatial PDF file, click the Current radio button.

If there is only one layout sheet in the layout window, the Selected Sheet(s) radio button is disabled.

3. To export multiple layout sheets to multiple geospatial PDF files, click the Selected Sheet(s) radio button and then highlight the layout sheets that you want to export.

GeoMedia PDF automatically names the exported geospatial PDF files based on the names of the layout sheets. If you do not want GeoMedia PDF to name your files, click to remove the checkmark from Automatically construct filenames. This option is only available when exporting more than one map sheet.

4. From the Distiller Settings list box, select GeoMedia Maximum Graphic Quality or

GeoMedia Minimum File Size that properly balances the exported geospatial PDF file size with the required output quality.

The job option files for GeoMedia Maximum Graphic Quality and GeoMedia Minimum File Size are delivered in C:\Program Files (x86)\Hexagon\GeoMedia PDF\Program\JobOptions. These files can be opened in Adobe Acrobat Distiller by double-clicking on them.

5. Click Export. 6. In the Select Geospatial PDF Output for Sheet <name> dialog, navigate to the location

where the geospatial PDF file should be saved. 7. In the File name text box, type a name for the geospatial PDF file, then click Save. The

processing starts at this point. 8. Upon completion, the Geospatial PDF Export Complete dialog is displayed. Insert a

check mark in the Open Geospatial PDF file check box to view the geospatial PDF file immediately and then click OK.

If the sheet size is larger than all defined printer forms, Adobe Acrobat Distiller uses the Postscript Custom Page Size. You must configure the Postscript Custom Page Size manually via the driver properties. From the Start menu, click Settings, then Printers and Faxes. In the Printers and Faxes window, right-click Adobe PDF, then from the shortcut menu, click Printing Preferences. Click the Adobe PDF Settings tab. Click Add. In the Add Custom Paper Size dialog, specify the name, width, height, and unit of measurement. Click Add/Modify to add the custom page size name to the Adobe PDF Page Size menu. Click OK. Maps inserted into the layout window using the Existing Shape insertion method are not supported.

9. Use the sliders and windowing tools in Adobe Reader to view your exported geospatial PDF file.

10. Click the Layers icon at the left edge of Adobe Reader to list the layers in the geospatial

11. Click on the Model Tree icon to list any features with attributes associated with them, and then click on the feature ID to list the attributes in the Property pane at the bottom.

Optionally, select Tools > Measure in Adobe Reader to display the Measure toolbar which contains multiple commands; Measuring Tool, Object Data Tool, and Geospatial Location Tool. Select the Object Data Tool and click on one of the features that has attributes defined. The attributes for the selected feature are displayed in the Property pane. Features that do not have attributes defined are not locatable with the Object Data Tool.

12. To view the metadata properties used for input earlier in the tutorial, click File, then Properties. You can edit the Title and Author fields as you see fit. The Subject and Keywords fields will reflect values from the input metadata XML file.

13. Click the Additional Metadata button. The Author Title, Description, Description Writer will display information as defined by the input metadata XML file.

14. In the left pane, click the Advanced option. Expand each URL in the list to view the metadata. Optionally, you can use the Save button to create your own metadata XML file that can be used as input for future projects.

15. To view coordinate readouts, select Tools > Measure to display the Measure Toolbar. Select the Geospatial Location Tool and hover over a location within the map frame. The coordinate readout is displayed. The readout format and other Geospatial Measuring options can be defined by selecting Edit > Preferences and selecting the Measuring (Geo) Category.
