2. The feature marked Z is a tombolo. The long shore drift transports
materials along the coast. If there is a sudden change in the
direction of the coast, the longshore drift continues to transport the
materials in the original direction to the deep sea. The materials
deposited above the water accumulated to form a spit. The spitcontinue to grow, as materials are continuously deposited. The
spits eventually join the two nearby islands to the mainland
forming a tombolo.

waves approach a headland, they tend to converge& refracted and giving
rise to greater erosive energy as wave energy is concentrated. hen
waves approach a bay, they tend to diverge and giving rise to lesser
