• A prolonged period of abnormally low rainfall, and a shortage of water resulting from this. • Affecting areas across the world•California's 4th year of a recordbreaking drought.

• The fertile Central Valley and Bakersfield are the two regions that are being most affected• Top ten cities that are suffering the most
are Hanford, Salinas, Gilroy-Morgan Hill, Santa
Maria, Merced, Santa Cruz, Madera, Visalia and Fresno.

How does the drought effect the Earth?
We need water to live, just like any other living thing on this planet. Lakes drying up atleast 2 feet a year
More water pumped from ground water. Groundwater levels are down by as much as 100 feet in some areas, because more is being pumped

Can El Niño erase a 4yr drought?
We are expecting a strong El Niño event this winter, but experts say it is unlikely to erase California’s four-year drought.
Precipitation would have to be 120% above average in order to make a small dent
We would need an abnormal increased amount of snowfall on the Sierra Nevadas to increase our water supply.
