- An economy in which

individuals or communities

consume most of what they

produce with little surplus,

or leftover, products.

Examples:

A farmer who grows only enough food for

him and his family to eat.

Economics: Market Economy

- An economy in which property is owned privately and competition is encouraged.

Examples:

Ford and Dodge both make pickups. They

compete against each other for your business

so they can make money.

property is owned by the

state/government and

competition is eliminated

in order to control

economic activity.

Example:

If the US was a command economy and

they owned Apple, then iPhone would be

the only cell phone that you could get.

property is owned privately and

some of it is owned publicly (by

the state/government).

Example:

In Russia, most of the oil business is owned

by the government. They also have private

businesses like McDonald's and other fast

food restaurants in Russia.

elected by the people in town to

make decisions (power) for the

whole population.

Monarchy:Power is

vested in the Royal

Family and country is

led by either a king or

queen.

Tyranny/Dictatorship:

One person uses

force/violence to rule a

country (North Korea)

- Aristocracy: The

most-qualified people

have the power. (Some

corporations/businesses,

the military)

- Oligarchy: A group of

people control the

country with force or by

controlling the economy.

Democracy: A government in which

citizens rule directly through the

process of voting. Also known as

majority rule. (Students in a class vote

Republic: A government in which the

citizens elect representatives who
