Geography, 60 ECTS
Geography is interdisciplinary and sheds light upon issues such as diversity, variety and interaction, the natural and the man-made, local andglobal processes on the surface of the earth. You will learn how the landscape is shaped by natural forces, how to create and use maps, howresources are distributed between regions and continents, about the consequences of globalization and the environmental consequences ofhuman behavior. Geography is characterized by close relationship with other disciplines, both form the social sciences and the naturalsciences. The programme is organized by means of four gatherings, and can be taken both full-time and part-time. The program is therefore perfect forteachers in work who want further education. The gatherings form a central and important part of the learningactivities, as we immerseourselves in the field to study natural conditions and landscape types, as well as visits to companies, places and municipalities.

has broad and up-to-date knowledge of the field of geography, the history of the discipline, and its scientific methods
Skills
can work independently on important issues within the geography fieldis able to write structured academic answerscan place the subject in a relevant social context
General competence
has the ability to see important relationships between man, society and nature, and develop attitudes based on comprehensive knowledgecan use geography in a professional didactic context
Applicants must fulfil the requirements for Norwegian General Study competence as well as language proficiency requirements in Norwegianand English language.

If the applicant does not fulfill the requirements for the Higher Education Entrance Qualification but has experience-based competence relevantto the field of study, he or she may apply for recognition of this competence in order to fulfill the admission
The one year study programme in geography qualifies graduates for admission to further studies at the Bachelor level in Geography at NordUniversity, or at other universities. It can also be incorporated into other Social Science degrees. A degree in Geography can lead to a widerange of career opportunities. Geographers work in the private and public sector, and are often hired for positions that require planning andmanagement skills, as well as good knowledge of maps and practical skill required to apply Geographic information system software. Thedegree also qualifies for teaching geography and social sciences in high school.
The one year study programme in geography qualifies graduates for admission to further studies at the Bachelor level in Geography at NordUniversity, or at other universities. It can also be incorporated into other Social Science degrees.
