TEKS: (ELA) TEK: 6-8.2 Reading/Vocabulary Development. Students are expected to (E) use a dictionary, glossary, or a thesaurus (printed or electronic) to determine the meanings, syllabication, pronunciations, alternate word choices, and parts of speech of words. Readiness Standard. (Social Studies) TEK: 6.4 Geography. Students are expected to (D) identify and locate major physical and human geographic features such as landforms, water bodies, and urban centers of various places and regions.(Social Studies) TEK: 6.22 Social Studies skills. The student communicates in written, oral, and visual forms. Students are expected to (A) use social studies terminology correctly.

Objective(s): I will be able to use a dictionary to assist in determining the meanings of geographical terms, and then identify picture examples that exhibit characteristics of the term.

Center Directions: 1) Gather the materials needed:

• Question/answer sheet. • Pen or pencil• Dictionary

2) Look at the example on your question/answer sheet as you read the directions.3) Look at the term (example “mountain”). Using the dictionary, find the meaning of the word.4) Glue the meaning, definition in the column that says “definition.” 5) Then look back at the display board to find the image that exhibits (shows) the characteristics of the definition and term. Write the number under the image in the column that says “picture #.”6) Make sure you name is on your paper and turn your answers into the librarians.7) Do you have questions – if you get confused, or need help – ASK! We want to help you understand
