• Compared with many of the worlds large urban centres, the air quality in Australia is quite good due to:
-Technological advancements-The closure of old industrial plants-Strict emission controls imposed by governments.
• There are however, still days when air quality deteriorates to such an extent that is as bad as the air pollution experienced in cities such as Chicago, New York and Tokyo.

Management Strategies for Improving Air Quality
Reducing peoples reliance on cars by improving public transport; that is , making sure it is convenient, reliable, safe and affordable.
Introducing stricter emission controls for industry and motor vehicles
Restricting urban expansion to areas already serviced by public transport
Encouraging firms to move goods by rail instead of by road.
Subsidising the installation of solar hot water systems, home insulation and other energy saving devices.
Provide firms with financial incentives to invest in renewable energy sources and technologies
