The Genre For my music video the genre I am choosing to do is Rap, Rap music first originated in the 1970’s America and became very popular among African American especially in New York. DJ Kool Herc was one of the first artists in the rap/hip hop genre he was known for having beats from funk and soul music played and then people would rap over these beats and this is how it got its name. It has evolved over time as their has been influence by other genres such as techno also as of hip hop and rap was done live and at the time now it has been evolved through time by it being pre recorded and put it into mix tapes as of 1979.

Artists in this genre

Most of the artists in this genre are not seen as good artists the reason for this is that most people think that rapping does not require a good signing voice so many people do not see them as talented musicians. However many people do see them as their role models artists such as Eminem where they started their career in the poor rundown areas and they have now made a name for himself and has made a lot of money and people will model themselves on him.

Main ideologies represented in this genreThe main ideologies seen in the rap genre are that the artists tend to show of all their wealth and power a good example of this is in a 50 cent video where he is driving one of his many Ferrari's and has several gold chains and watches. This is a main theme is this genre as it is mainly showing off and how all they have all the women and expensive and designer clothes. Also a main factor is this is that drug taking seems to be the norm along with other illegal activities. The genre was not always like this put as it grew more and more popular and the increase of money into the market this is how it turned out. Also as there became great rivalry with many artists in the genre many felt they had to show off and boast to there audience that they are the best rapper or richest etc.

Conventional artists

Below is a list of artist it the genre that are very conventional within the genre, the conventions are smoking drugs , guns and violence as well as women the names of these conventional artists are 50 cent , Wiz Khalifa and Giggs.

What I will need to consider

I will need to consider this when is comes to making my own music video of the same genre however there things that I will not be able to include such as drug taking. Also I will need settings seen in rap videos to influence my own production with such settings such as streets, ally ways and rundown estates.
