When his son Isaac

was 8 days old,

Abraham circumcised him, as God commande

d him.

Page 7: Genesis Dig Site 9

Abraham was 100 years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

Page 13: Genesis Dig Site 9

Some time later God tested Abraham.*

Abraham!  Here I am.

Page 14: Genesis Dig Site 9

Then God said,

Take your son, your only son,

whom you love—Isaac—and go

to the region of Moriah.

Page 15: Genesis Dig Site 9

Sacrifice him there as a burnt

offering on a mountain I will

show you.

Page 16: Genesis Dig Site 9

Early the next morning Abraham got

up and loaded his donkey.

He took with him 2 of his

servants and his son Isaac.

Page 17: Genesis Dig Site 9

When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.

Page 18: Genesis Dig Site 9

On the 3rd day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.

Page 19: Genesis Dig Site 9

He said to his servants,

Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there.

We will worship and then we will come back to you.

Page 20: Genesis Dig Site 9

Page 24: Genesis Dig Site 9

1. Isaac 2. 2 servants 3. both answers are correct

Page 25: Genesis Dig Site 9

Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac,

and he himself carried the fire and the knife.

Page 26: Genesis Dig Site 9

As the two of them went on together,

Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham,*

Father? Yes, my son?

Page 27: Genesis Dig Site 9

The fire and

wood are here

Page 28: Genesis Dig Site 9

but where is th

lamb for th

burnt offering?

Page 29: Genesis Dig Site 9

God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt

offering, my son

Page 30: Genesis Dig Site 9

And the 2 of them went on together.

Page 31: Genesis Dig Site 9

When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar

there and arranged the wood on it.

Page 32: Genesis Dig Site 9

He bound his son

Isaac and laid him on the altar, on

top of the wood.

Page 33: Genesis Dig Site 9

Then he reached out his hand and

took the knife to slay

his son.

Page 34: Genesis Dig Site 9

But the angel of the LORD called out to

him from heaven,

Page 35: Genesis Dig Site 9

Abraham! Abraham!

Page 36: Genesis Dig Site 9

Here I am!

Page 37: Genesis Dig Site 9

Do not lay a hand on the boy,

Page 38: Genesis Dig Site 9

Do not do anything to him.

Page 39: Genesis Dig Site 9

Now I know that you fear God, because you

have not withheld from me your son, your only son.

Page 40: Genesis Dig Site 9

Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns.

Page 41: Genesis Dig Site 9

He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead

of his son.

Page 42: Genesis Dig Site 9

So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide.

Page 43: Genesis Dig Site 9

And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD

it will be provided.”

Page 44: Genesis Dig Site 9

The angel of the LORD

called to Abraham

from heaven a 2nd time

and said,

Page 45: Genesis Dig Site 9

I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that

because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only

son,

Page 46: Genesis Dig Site 9

I will surely bless you

and make your descendants

as numerous as the

stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore..

Page 47: Genesis Dig Site 9

Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,

and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have

obeyed me.

Page 48: Genesis Dig Site 9

Because you have done this and have

not withheld your son, your only son,

I will surely bless you.
