Sara Sez: BubblyThe technique for making sparkling wine was developed 300 years ago by a Benedictine Monk, Dom Perignon. The still (non-sparkling) wine undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle, a by-product of which is CO2 gas. This is what gives the wine the tiny bubbles we love.
Only sparkling wines from the Champagne region of France can bear the name Champagne, although many other wine regions of the world produce excellent sparkling wines. We recommend Grower Champagne, or “farmer fizz”, which is hand-crafted and estate-bottle by a “him,” not an “it.” Bubbly from Spain, known as Cava, can also offer good quality for a reasonable price.
Pilgrim’s wine department features an excellent selection of hand-picked bubbly just right for any special occasion and budget. Sara and Steve will be happy to assist you in making the perfect choice.

WEEK SALE
In winter and early spring, most of the farms in the United States lie dormant. Still, stores are able to stock their produce shelves with fresh fruits and vegetables, largely due to Mexican farmers. At Pilgrim’s Market, we strive to offer as much local produce as we can, when in season. However, with the demand for organic produce annually expanding, some of our off-season organic produce comes from Mexico. For a food to be sold as certified organic in the US, regardless of its origin, it must meet all the requirements of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Organic Program: no toxic synthetic pesticides, artificial fertilizers, sewage sludge, GMOs or irradiation used in growing or production. Mexico’s certified organic acreage has been growing at a rate of 32% per year, and each farm must be certified by a USDA-accredited agency. On-site audits and regular border inspections, including extensive testing, assure clean products for the U.S. and healthier foods and work environments for each Mexican organic farmer. So, if you want to eat fresh, ripe tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, melons and grapes during the colder months, and mangoes, bananas and avocados anytime, know that the USDA Certified Organic label on Mexican produce means it’s just as delicious and good for you as the organic farm down the road.

Dr. Toby’s Tips forShoveling Snow(Based on years of living in theWestern NY snow belt.)
Dr. Toby Hallowitz, ND, LAc, MSOM
Work with a healthcare professional to screen for cardiovascular disease and risk fac-tors.
Dress in layers and stay hydrated. Keep a water bottle easily accessible.
Stretch before and after - this is essential, especially for the hamstrings, low back and shoulders.
Clear off your car first.
Move snow the shortest distance possible.
Use your leg muscles as much as you can, pushing snow when possible.
When lifting, keep your back straight and hold the shovel close to your body with one hand close to the shovel blade, which provides better leverage. Try not to twist when throwing snow.
Rest frequently - take intentional breaths to allow your muscles and heart rate to recover.
Clear snow more frequently if you know your area is expecting to get dumped on.
Proteolytic enzymes, like bromelain and Wobenzyme, taken on an empty stomach, can be used prior to and after shoveling to reduce inflammation and soreness.
Oral magnesium is helpful to keep muscles from tightening.
Soaking in an Epsom salt bath post shov-eling (2-3 cups salt to a tub of water) loosens muscles and reduces spasms.
Finally, be sure to toast to your accomplishment with a steaming cup of organic hot dark chocolate cocoa (heart healthy and high in antioxidants).
Nature Cure Tip:
Dr. Toby Hallowitz is Pilgrim’s resident naturopathic doctor and acupuncturist, taking appointments weekly in Pilgrim’s Wellness Clinic and consulting in the Supplements Department. For more information, call 208.676.0400.

Natural Calm – Reduce Stress Naturally
Magnesium is one of the most important basic nutrients that power our bodies, and it is required for more than 300 biochemical reactions. But since our bodies don’t produce this mineral, we need to replenish its supply every day. Due to nutrient-deficient soil and fast-paced lifestyles, few of us (estimated at less than 20 percent) get
sufficient magnesium in our diets. This means supplementation is needed, and Natural Calm is the best-selling, award-winning ionic magnesium that mixes easily in water to restore healthy magnesium levels quickly and effectively. It features a proprietary formula, which provides a highly absorbable, water soluble magnesium in an ionic form (having molecular charge that allows the element to easily bond with water). Natural Calm is ready to go to work right away, replenishing your body and reducing your stress!*

Feel a cold coming on? With Clincally proven Umcka and these
cold-kicking rules you’ll speed your recovery time, naturally!
Stay Home & RelaxThe first couple of days of a cold are usually the worst, and you can benefit by babying yourself in the beginning. Take it easy during this time by avoiding late nights, and be sure to get plenty of sleep. The common cold shouldn’t get in the way of your daily life, but if your symptoms are worse than usual, stay home from work, as well.HydrateFluids are extremely important when it comes to your im-mune defenses. Water flushes out your system, excreting tox-ins and rehydrating you in the process. When you feel the first inkling of a cold, start downing hydrating fluids right away. When you’re fighting a virus, it’s important to get even more than the recommended 64oz a day. It doesn’t have to be ice cold water either, if you have a sore throat try some-
thing that can provide symptom relief and be hydrating such as a soothing hot drink or herbal tea with honey.Feed your coldThere’s the old saying of “feed a cold, starve a fever”, and while it may or may not be true one thing is certain – you need nu-trients! A cold may last a few days, and not eating can deprive your body of the elements it needs to fight off viruses. While a big meal may not sound appealing, try homemade chicken soup which can provide comfort and nutrients. Take a hot showerThe steam from the shower can help moisturize your nasal passages and allow you to relax. Chances are your stuffy nose may be making sleeping difficult - taking a hot shower (espe-cially right before bed) may help you fall asleep. So next time you feel a cold coming on, take care of yourself. Grab a box of tissues, a cup of soup, your favorite Umcka ColdCare variety, and curl up on the couch to watch a movie. You’ll kick the cold faster and feel better before you know it!
Kick that cold fast with these easy steps.40%Off*

3 oz Sattwa Chai Tea Concentrate1 oz huckleberry syrup4 oz milk
Sattwa (sawt-wa): a Sanskrit word depicting the universal life force of balance and harmony.
Sattwa Chai, since 1994 an original pioneer in the chai tea category, has remained true to its roots and initial vision.
Still family owned and operated from the foothills of the Oregon Coastal Range, they value ecological awareness and the rich spiritual heritage of Mother India. And they love gourmet-quality, authentic masala (spicy) chai tea.
In keeping with their holistic vision and love of the culi-nary arts, Sattwa Chai is made with 100% real organic tea and spices. Unlike virtually all other national brands on the market today, they use No Additives of any kind. This accounts for its vibrant flavors and many health-giving benefits. Their tea is both Organic and Fair Trade Certified..
1. Sattwa is the most delicious, balanced, authentic chai on the market!
2. Real organic spices (No Additives), Fair Trade Certified Tea.
3. Your purchase shows support for service-oriented/socially responsible business practices. Sattwa is a family owned business grounded in values of high integrity and environmental steward-ship. We support indigenous peoples in both South America and India.
4. Sattwa Chai supports micro-economic projects in India.
4 Reasons to Purchase Sattwa Chai Tea
Combine all ingredients, steam with steaming wand, heat on stove or in microwave. Can also be served cold over ice.
