Duration & Flexibility

The programs are entirely flexible and thus the duration depends on the time and effort you are prepared to dedicate and your progress. The minimum duration of a program is 12 months (Master)/24 months (Doctorate); the average duration is 18 months (Master)/36 months (Doctorate). You are at no time bound to any fixed schedules, this is to honor and support the particular agendas of our students who are mainly working professionals in managerial positions.

Residence Requirements

The programs are entirely online, there are no residence requirements during the regular course work. The only residential requirement is the Dissertation Defense vis–à–vis the Academic Defense Committee of SMC. This 1–day event is organised regularly in Europe or USA.

Technical Requirements

You will need a personal computer with regular internet access. The SMC Online Learning System can be easily accessed through your web browser. Your PC should have the following programs installed:

Course Evaluation

Performance review and completion requirements vary among course and Professors. In general, a course may require the pursuit of comprehensive research / business projects, cases studies, assignments and final examination, or a combination of these. Examinations are being accessed online. Your Professor will make the password protected exam available through a special examination platform on the SMC Online Learning System. Exams are automatically submitted to the Professor for evaluation and grading.

Capstone Project & Dissertation

The Capstone Project (Master)/Dissertation (Doctorate) is your written product of the systematic study of a significant problem which follows a coherent methodology, independent research and comprehensive thinking. An appropriate organization and documentation is required, according to SMC University’s academic rules and standards. Topics for the final papers are generally picked by the student, approved by the committee and submitted to a professor. Ongoing progress review and mentorship by the supervisor will ensure the highest quality and relevance of the final work. The Capstone Project/Dissertation defense will be conducted in front of the Defense Committee. Representatives of the business community may be invited, thereby fostering the spontaneous development of networking opportunities. The Doctorate Dissertation defense require your physical presence. The Defense generally takes place twice a year.

Graduation Requirements

In order to be awarded a degree for the program attended, students must obtain a passing grade in all courses, achieve the required GPA and successfully defend their Capstone Project/Dissertation.

The first step towards ad-mission is the online Ap-plication for Admission. Upon submission, the Administration of SMC University will follow–up and request from you rel-evant supporting docu-mentation.

Within a timeframe of 6 – 10 days the SMCU Admission Committe will review your application, aligning your profile with the criteria for successful admission.

In case of successful ad-mission, you will receive a confirmation and official Acceptance Letter with instructions on the next steps towards enrollment. Rejected applicants will be informed accordingly, in-cluding a detailed explana-tion of the decision.

Upon settlement of your tuition deposit you will receive your Certificate of Enrollment and Student Handbook. You will also receive access details to your personalized online learning platform.

Admission Review Sessions

The SMCU Admissions Committee conducts weekly review meetings for distance learning programs, usually held on Thursdays. Upon receipt of an online application, the Registrar assigns the candidate a review date. Applicants are granted 8 days to collect their supporting documents and submit those to the Admissions Committee for review. The outcome of the assessment will be communicated to applicants on the following day.

Settlement of Tuitions

Invoices are set forth upon admission together with the official letter of acceptance. SMC University offers various payment and financing options and deposits are usually due 21 days from the issue date of the invoice.Invoices remain unbinding for 8 business days from the invoice date. During this period you are entitled to revoke and cancel your admission by written notice (e–mail, fax, registered mail). After 9 business days from the invoice date, your admission turns into a binding contract and you are obliged to settle your invoice as per the terms and conditions stated.

Program Design & Curriculum

The Accelerated Online BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) is a focused distance learning business-degree program that develops a thorough understanding of business in its manifold aspects. Delivered via eLearning it is ideal for candidates with practical experience who do not possess the appropriate academic qualifications, aiming to obtain them by expanding and formalizing knowledge in the various fields of business. The program is strongly oriented towards practical application, rather than theory. It is a combination of academic content adapted for the experienced working professional, coupled with extensive academic and industry related exposure. Graduates of this program may advance into SMC’s accredited online MBA program.

The curriculum is a-la-carte. It’s portfolio of courses serves as the basis for establishing an individual academic plan, which is aligned with your previous academic credentials and professional experience. You will receive credits in all the fields where you can prove evident formalized knowledge, skill, and competence. In fields with related business experience, you will pursue the final exams only. DissertationAn original, academic written product of the systematic study of a significant problem that follows a coherent methodology, independent research and comprehensive thinking. An appropriate organization and documentation is part of it. A supervisor (typically a SMC faculty member) accompanies and discusses the student’s work, closely checks the progress and takes on academic responsibility.

Dissertation DefenseUpon completion of the regular course work and dissertation, students are required to pursue the obligatory Dissertation Defense. This oral performance review is structured as a hearing vis–à–vis the Academic Defense Committee of SMC at one of our Learning Centers. The Defense has the purpose to challenge aspects of the candidate’s research work, allowing the students to proof their integrity by defending the underlying argumentation.
