TTTTTTTTeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaacccccccchhhhhhhheeeeeeeerrrrrrrrssssssss NNNNNNNNooooooootttttttteeeeeeeessssssss Our belief and philosophy at Intelligent Australia has always been that

KNOWLEDGE leads to UNDERSTANDING which leads to WISDOM And what better way to bring knowledge to young learners than through the fun of solving crosswords puzzles.

The puzzles in this book have been especially created to broaden students’ general knowledge by undertaking research. Not all questions will call on the student’s investigative techniques but a healthy percentage of them will.

The following sources will prove very helpful in solving the clues INTERNET, REFERENCE BOOKS, ATLAS, DICTIONARY, THESAURUS

Each puzzle ... • is a 100% educational activity • provides an educational challenge • demands correct spelling • helps build vocabulary • enriches general knowledge • gives satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment when solved • offers an opportunity for family members to work together

Teachers may be assured that the puzzles here are appropriate for use by mainstream students. While challenging even the most capable pupils they are suitable too for those who may require a degree of assistance from a teacher (school) or parent (home).

There is no one correct way to make use of this book. Some teachers may choose to spread the 20 puzzles over a year, allowing two weeks for completion of each. Others may condense them into a semester (one per week).

Crosswords may be presented either as school-based or home-based tasks, or perhaps they could be begun in class and completed at home.

It is suggested that each of the two-page puzzles be kept together in one place... perhaps pasted in an activity or homework book.

Children love incentives. Consider having a class General Knowledge Champion, being the student whose puzzle is the neatest and best each week.

In searching for solutions, students will usually find more information than they actually require. There is space underneath each crossword for them to write about something interesting they learnt (being something other than a clue’s solution) and this could be shared with the rest of the class.

Over 1 000 Gems of General Knowledge!

How many do you know?
