The 2000 - 2001 edition of the Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers AssociationMembership Directory is divided into five major sections, one for each type ofAEMA membership: North American Manufacturer, International Manufacturer,Supplier, Contractor, and Individual. These sections give complete details abouteach member company, its address, telephone number, fax number, e-mail andwebsite addresses (when available), key personnel, and type of business for theSuppliers. Please note: The person designated with an asterisk (*) listed undereach member company is the person designated by that member to serve as itsofficial representative to AEMA; the person whose name is followed by (ITC) isthat company's representative to the AEMA International Technical Committee.

In certain cases, we have also listed pertinent information for subsidiary orsecondary locations, most often when an AEMA director or committee chairmanis headquartered at a location other than that given for his company's mainlisting.

The directory also includes an alphabetical listing of all member companies witha page number where each can be found, and a geographic listing of memberemulsion plants by state or by country, where appropriate.

To offer a degree of continuity, this edition provides a list of all AEMA pastpresidents as well as the dates and locations of all past annual meetings sinceAEMA's inception in 1973.

Other features include a listing of AEMA's committee structure with separateinformation and an organization chart for the International Technical Committee,an AEMA publication order form, and an AEMA membership applicationbecause this publication is often used as a valuable membership promotion tool.Also included are AEMA's meeting registration policies, and other Associationpolicies.

In addition to the bylaws and the code of ethics, members should familiarizethemselves with the anti-trust policy statement on p. 63.

The Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association - An Overview

AEMA is a proactive organization dedicated to the advancement of the asphaltemulsion industry, constantly focusing on system preservation and theconstruction of the world's infrastructure.

The Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association (AEMA) exists to promote theincreased and more efficient use of asphalt emulsions. Since 1973, theAssociation has served as a forum for discussion, a clearinghouse ofinformation, and a platform of action for the asphalt emulsion industry. Throughits meetings, seminars, and publications, AEMA has helped to bring state-of-the-art asphalt emulsion technology to all parts of the world. The AsphaltEmulsion Manufacturers Association is an excellent network for informationexchange and technology transfer among professionals in the highway industry.Although the Association does not maintain a technical staff, it is able to addressconcerns of a technical nature by calling upon the tremendous bank of expertisethat exists throughout its membership.

A cornerstone of AEMA's technology transfer program is the InternationalTechnical Committee (ITC). Charged with developing technical activities,programs, and publications, in response to and in anticipation of market andproduction requirements, the ITC functions with four standing committees andseveral more subcommittees, all with specific areas of technical and programresponsibility. The AEMA Technical Committee Guide and the ITC CommitteeChairmen listing appear elsewhere in this directory.

AEMA continues to take steps to increase its visibility on federal, state, and locallevels. We have conducted three joint Annual Meetings with the AsphaltRecycling and Reclaiming Association (ARRA), the outcome of which has beenso positive that the Boards of Directors have scheduled a fourth such meetingfor 2001. A very successful joint Annual Meeting with the International SlurrySurfacing Association (ISSA) was held in March 2000 and is scheduled to berepeated, most likely in 2003. AEMA officials in the past year have come toWashington, DC, to meet with key Federal Highway Administration officials andhighway industry association executives. AEMA's membership in the AmericanHighway Users Alliance (AHUA), the Road Information Program (TRIP), and theTransportation Construction Coalition, three of the main forces behind thepassage of TEA 21 and leaders in making sure that TEA 21 funds are spent onthe highways, helps keep us attuned to what is going on at the Federal level andprovides us with key contacts. A cornerstone of AEMA's efforts to increase themarket share for asphalt emulsions has been our work through localorganizations, universities, and technology transfer centers to conduct seminarsto benefit those involved in the design, construction and maintenance of streets,



roads and highways. Throughout the year, AEMA members have againparticipated in a wide range of local, regional and national seminars andconferences to promote the industry and the recent improvements in technology.In early 2000, AEMA was in attendance at the Transportation Research Board'sAnnual Convention in Washington, DC, as part of the Foundation for PavementPreservation, in July was an exhibitor at the AASHTO Highway Subcommitteeon Maintenance meeting in Juneau, Alaska, and in October will co-sponsor aPavement Preservation Seminar in Austin, Texas. Members continue toparticipate at other more regional professional gatherings., and serve asspeakers for programs sponsored by various state superintendentsorganizations, county engineers associations and other highway-related groups.As continuing evidence of AEMA's commitment to technology transfer, theAssociation conducted ISAET '99, the Second International Symposium onAsphalt Emulsion Technology in Washington, DC, in November 1999; almostfifty technical presentations were offered. The success of the '96 and '99symposia motivated plans for the ISAET '04, again in Washington, DC, inNovember 2004.

In the coming months, AEMA intends to continue its work in the areas oftechnical specifications and other educational services. More specifically, wehave two videos on asphalt emulsions and their uses and applications, and wehave made the Basic Asphalt Emulsion Manual available on cd-rom, all inpartnership with the Asphalt Institute. Furthermore, the Association will continueto enhance its involvement with various governmental agencies and othersegments of the highway industry and, in fact, is an active participant with theFederal Highway Administration and the Pavement Preservation Foundation inproducing a new Pavement Preservation Short Course with the NationalHighway Institute, to complement the new FHWA/FP2/AEMA video: PreventiveMaintenance - Project Selection - Right Road, Right Treatment, Right Time. Andmembers and others can look forward to new enhancements at www.aema.org,AEMA's website which has a new site developer/administrator, a new technicalforum and more frequent updates. Of particular note this year is AEMA'sdecision to join the Pine Chemicals Association HPV Task Force to participate inthe EPA's High Production Volume (HPV) Chemical Challenge Program. Morethan 15 members have signed onto this initiative so far, with more expected tocome in as the program progresses.

A list of AEMA's Board of Directors appears on p. 9 of this directory, with anoverview of the 2000-2001 committee structure on p. 12. All interested membersare invited to contact these representatives and groups to communicate theirthoughts and concerns for AEMA activities, both current and future. Morespecific and up-to-date information is always available from the AEMAheadquarters office in Annapolis, Maryland, just outside Washington, DC. AEMAcontinues to be a forum for the exchange of ideas and solutions to emulsionconcerns. More importantly, AEMA will continue to develop new programs,strategies and funding to not only improve the technological side of the industry



but to promote the increased and more efficient use of asphalt emulsions. Withnew programs being planned at the committee and regional levels andcoordinated at the national level, the Asphalt Emulsion ManufacturersAssociation is able to more readily respond to the needs of its members and thehighway industry.
