GK-3
PrefaceWe are happy to be able to offer this thoroughly revised, updated and beautifully illustrated edition of part-3 of our popular G.K. Today Series. The authors are aware of the fact that this is an age of globalisation wherefore the horizon of knowledge has spread beyond the boundaries of one’s country. The exposure that young children have in this high tech era through T.V. and early interaction with a wide strata of society in schools and other forums including travelling has made them inquisitive and whetted their appetite for more and more knowledge about their surroundings, environment, society, plants and animals, sports, transport and scores of other things. They have multitude of questions to ask. This book is an attempt to fulfil this need.
The information on a wide variety of topics is provided through ‘informative’ as well as ‘interactive’ approach. Every chapter and the chapter based exercises are arranged in such a way that young learners learn the subject matter by ‘Learning through doing approach’ rather than merely providing the information to be mugged up and then spurted in a traditional question-answer style.
The categorisation of chapters is theme based like the World of animals and plants; Language and literature; Science, Technology and Architecture; India; world watch; sports watch; Brain Bravura; Fun & Frolick, etc. The ‘Chill out’ sections provide scope for activities and projects and the Question Hour sections offer wide variety of questions for periodic assessment. The sections on ‘Some Astonishing Facts’ and ‘Reminiscence of History’ have been included to provide a wealth of useful information on a variety of topics.
The sections on ‘A–Z Encyclopedia’, ‘Test Papers’ and ‘G.K. Update’ enumerating important events during the current year form a special feature of the book.
We are thankful to the Management Team and the Editorial Department of S. Chand & Company Pvt. Ltd. for all help and support in the publication of this book.
Suggestions and feedback for the improvement of the book would be most welcome.
