Our 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline provide you
an idyllic setting for outdoor recreation. Most of our
east/west roads eventually lead to our shoreline.
With over 500 miles of trails, you can have a great
time with family and friends. Check out our website’s
See and Do tab for more information on trails.
If you enjoy camping, choices include full hook-up
campsites to basic camping areas with fire rings and
boat ramps. You can also camp on your own next to
the water’s edge or in the woods. Remember to read
and follow our Camping Rules. You can find them
online.
For those of you seeking more comfort, our four
gateway communities provide lodging, hotels and
state park lodges. Check out our Communities page
under our Visit tab online.
Enjoy an authentic experience when you visit our
main attractions — Elk & Bison Prairie, Homeplace
1850s Working Farm, Woodlands Nature Station and
Golden Pond Planetarium with summer star parties
at our Observatory.
Remember:
• Leave No Trace
• Pack it in. Pack it out.

Elk & Bison Prairie Wind your way through 700 acres of scenic prairie on a 3.5 mile paved loop. See elk, bison, wildflowers, prairie grasses and other wildlife in their native habitat. l
Enclosed vehicles only (no motorcycles). Open dawn until dusk year round.
Homeplace 1850s Working Farm Step back in time on this working farm and living history museum. Experience what life was like for an 1850s farm family as they go about their daily chores.
See heritage breed mules, sheep, pigs, oxen, ducks and chickens. Join us for workshops, old time-music festivals, and special events.
Golden Pond Planetarium & Observatory Travel to the furthest reaches of space from the comfort of our climate-controlled planetarium theater year-round. Find the schedule on our
website. Popular laser light shows begin Memorial Day weekend and continue through the end of the year. We serve as a NASA Educator Resource Center.
Woodlands Nature Station Get up-close to rescued animals and native gardens in our backyard. Explore our ponds, gobble with the turkeys and howl with the coyotes. Easy trails take you through multiple
habitats for great wildlife viewing. Sign up for our group hiking and paddle tours.
