Born 15 minutes apart around midnight, Macie May Comer was born at 11:49 p.m. on May 31, andKloie Kaylynn Comer at 12:04 a.m. on June 1. Born under the sign of Gemini — with the symbol of twins — the newborn duo has separate birthstones, but separate birthday parties are unlikely, said new mother Beth Comer.

The Bureau of LandManagement is using an emptySacramento Metro Fire stationin Orangevale as a home base fora new all-veteran fire crew. Theagency is currently in the processof hiring United States militaryveterans to staff the crew. Oncehired, the BLM will train thecrew in firefighting techniquesand make them available as anational firefighting resource. The crew will be known as theFolsom Lake Hand Crew andwill be housed at Sac Metro FireStation 33 at 5148 Main Avenuein Orangevale.
“Our goal is two-fold,” saidBLM California FireManagement Officer PaulBannister. “First, the crew will bean additional firefightingresource for this fire season andbeyond, both locally and nation-
ally. Second, this crew is anopportunity for veterans to getjobs, gain skills and hopefullybecome interested in employ-ment with the BLM or otherfederal agencies in fire or otherland management areas.”
The BLM is leasing the SacMetro fire station fromSacramento County as a dutystation for the 20-person crew. The crew will focus on wildlandfire suppression and fuels man-agement. Bannister said the crewis expected to be up and runningas a national firefighting resourcethis summer.
The BLM expects to begina second round of hiring for vet-erans for next year’s crew soon.People interested in applyingshould check back with the USAJobs website at http://blm.usajobs.gov/.
