about me
After graduating from the Textile Design BA (Hons) course at Falmouth University in 2013, I have since set up my own studio designing surface print collections as well as working on a number of commissions for retail clients such as Hallmark and Waitrose.
Based in a studio in the Berkshire countryside, I design unique surface prints for the interior, fashion and stationary markets. Within every collection, I create each print by hand painting on to canvases using a mixture of watercolour, acrylic and oil paints. Each design is photographed and developed into repeats in Photoshop and Illustrator allowing bold, colourful and crisp artistic detail in each digital design.

Just this year I was selected by Hallmark to design a range of cards for the Waitrose “New Talent” project. They are now on sale in stores nationwide and I have recieved a great deal of lovely feedback.
On top of this, I was also featured in Good Housekeeping as one of the top new textile homeware designers for 2015, stating in the article, “Textile and surface print designer Gemma Cate Hicks is pretty new to the interiors scene, but judging by her stunning range of painterly floral prints we reckon she’ll go far.”
As a result of the previous two accolades, I have recieved an overwhelming positive response to my design work and style.
