Dear Families and Friends It’s probably fair to say that early last Saturday morning was quite ‘crisp’! However, the chilly weather didn’t stop a large contingent of dedicated and enthusiastic mums, dads and kids from completing some fantastic work at our term two working bee. Lots was achieved including sweeping, weeding, painting and pruning. Blake, Grant and Ross did an absolutely mighty job replacing old rotten sleepers in our vegie garden and it’s hard to believe that SO MUCH was achieved in just one morning. It was also lovely to see students Madi, Briley, Ella, Darcie, Jade, Hayley, Tayla W, Imogen, Erin and Tayla H come along and join in the fun! A huge thank you to the Wil-kinson, Croaker, Randle, Hubbard, Penwarden and Brophy families for your generosity and ‘hard yakka’!
Inspired Teaching and Learning: 2017 Regional Principal Forum On Monday and Tuesday I attended The Department of Education and Training’s 2017 Regional Principal Forum in the city. The forum was titled ‘Inspired Teaching and Learning: Creating the Education State’ and was officially opened by the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education James Merlino. It was a fantastic conference with several international keynote speakers presenting on the latest and best practice in teaching, learning, leadership and whole school improvement. If I had one sentence to summarize the main message from the conference, it would be: ‘High expectations, high quality teaching and strong and focused leadership are the main ingredients that lead to improvement in student learning outcomes’. Tree Audit We recently engaged All Trees Consulting Services Pty Ltd to complete a tree audit and we now have a comprehensive report identifying all trees over 8m in height, together with a five year plan for inspection and maintenance. Three trees have been identified for immediate removal due to decay and failures that now present a significant hazard. Trees identified for removal are the large eucalypt in the centre of the main carpark. There is another eucalypt alongside the rear driveway and smaller wattle on the west side of the oval. We are currently seeking quotations in order to complete this recommended work. Academic Excellence Awards Semester 1 Just a reminder that this Friday 23rd June we will be presenting the semester one Academic Excellence Awards at our whole school assembly at 9:00am. We would love to see lots of families attend this special assembly to see students receive these very special awards. Cockatoo Bendigo Bank visit Bruce McConnell, Manager of the Cockatoo Bendigo Community Bank, has kindly offered to come to school and speak with anyone from the Gembrook community who is s eeking advice around home loans, personal and business loans, credit cards and savings accounts. Bruce will be available at school on Monday 26th from 11:00am until 12:00noon. Our school will benefit financially from any new Bendigo Bank business generated. Please check out the ‘Diary Dates’ at the front of the newsletter for the many excellent events and activities that are coming up at Gembrook Primary School. Have a great week and all the best
