GAMING

GAMER GIRLA Sexualized Fantasy Concept that Couldn’t Be MoreConfusing... for Both Male and Female Gamers.

THE

he history of the gamer is not as glamorous as it is now (wait, is it?). Sure there are movies being made based on gaming characters and yes, Chris Hardwick could be con-sidered “cool” by people who aren’t necessarily in the “geek” category, but only a few years back, to be a video game fan was to welcome in a slew of unwelcomed attention.

T We’ve come so far, right? Well... the guys have, but what about the ladies? To find a girl that didn’t mind us playing was one thing but to find a girl that actually wanted to play with us was more than just a shock, we considered testing for signs of robotic tendancies or alien identifiers.

First off, statistics don’t lie: (well...) according to the Internet Advertising bureau about half of the folks

that game are women. Sure, that includes people who game on their phones and probably also includes those Candy Crush fiends, but the reality is that women are gaming and some are even getting very good at it. So what happens next? Making gaming sexy, naturally. Wait, what?

We’d repeat that sentence but since it’s written, we don’t have to. Re-read that if you’re that shocked.

Twitch, a social video community for gamers, is the main vessel for fellow gamers to watch others play video games, a modern concept that deserves its own article, but I digress. Along with Instagram and Tumblr, these social sites put a face to the gamer tag. So biteMe247 turns out to be a girl, and she’s nineteen and she’s been kicking ass in C.O.D. for weeks, and she likes to game in her underwear. Wait, what?

“Favorite geek memory is when my fa-ther came home from work with two gi-gantic boxes filled with every character from Transformers and Power Rangers. I mean every character and this was in 1995 so these were old-school Trans-formers but they connected to make Optimus and other characters... they were awesome. I wish I still had them!”

SamanTha BRunO

The popularity of gaming has expand-ed so greatly that there is a market for “pretty girls who game” to generate popularity to the point of celebrity within the community. Mind blown.

Is it fair? Do we care?

In all seriousness, we think it’s incred-ible that any geek-related activity can expand so greatly that it breaches into pop-culture. We see the glass as half-full, as more opportunities for all.

So is it the end of gamer-shame forever? Of course not. Just like the term “geek” isn’t actually a term of endearment for everyone, gamers still have to justify their lifestyle to many, if not most.

So what is the up-side?

It’s finally a time where you and your lady can enjoy the gaming experience together. Yes, she might be on the other end of the world and yes, she may end up getting even better than you but you’ve got to admit, dating a girl, sitting there in your underwear, shoulder-knock-ing each other back and forth while you battle in Mortal Kombat X is a dream the original gaming generation could only dream of. For now, we claim Victory.

RobotsA Creative Self-Taught French Artist Takes Recycled Parts to Create Robots.

RECYCLED

ithout the aid of welding, French artist Gille Monte Ruici is able to give a second life to discarded metal and create robots that have developed a fan-base and customer-base.

Where did you learn how to make these awesome pieces?I am self-taught, and get back worn parts to recycle them and give them a second life. I assemble the metallic parts only by screwing and bolting, and not welding.

W How did you come up this amazing concept? This idea arrived gradually. I began by realizing death’s-heads and lamps, robots came later. I am only working with recovered metal parts. Metal is ideal for these kind of fixings. I like the matter, it is easy to work with. Particular reflections, kind of patinted, can be easily harmonized with other pieces.

What is the inspiration for each piece?Usually, I don’t have any preconceived idea, I use to work following my “visual

COMMUNITY

instinct”. You can find an idea pretty much anywhere, shapes in the trunks, a wild glance, a pair of arms… either the final vision comes immediately, or the idea of the potential is matured and will emerge later on. I use varied objects: various scrap, kitchen utensils, metallic pieces, tools of mechanics….My approach consists of giving them a second life by diverting them of their original vocation. My achievements are unique.

Have you received any accolades from the artist community for your work? Some of my creations were exposed last year in the brauer gallery in Paris and more recently in belgium. In December about ten of my robots were presented to the “Geek so in #9 by Intel” presenta-tion in Paris.

“I would like to be exposed at the Tate modern in London,at Beaubourg in Parisand the mOma innew York.”

ell us all about your gaming obsession! Gaming has always been a huge part of my life, so I can’t imagine myself without it. I also couldn’t live without my geek-wear, which makes up about 90% of my wardrobe. I love being able to show off what I love with what I wear. I [also] spend hours upon hours sitting in front of my laptop trying to make games rather than playing them nowadays. I also have a not-so-secret shrine to Assassin’s Creed in my room and all my favorite comics hung on my wall in protective covers.

Can you give us the details on your gamer-life?PlayStation! When I was a kid, my mother was very much against bringing videogames into our house. One day my dad snuck in an original PlayStation (back when they were the ONLY PlayStation), and after that she said that we could have them, but only that line of systems. So I’ve been raised on PlayStation! (Thanks Sony!)

What would you say is the difference between you and other models who game? Some models are interested in the nerdy culture, however I’m involved in it. I’m a game develop-ment student by day, and a fashion model by night. Which means not only can I nerd out with someone about their favorite game, but I also can understand the mechanics behind what actually goes on in the game. I’m also a natural redhead, so I’m about as rare as finding a Moltres!

Epic reference! What advice would you give a guy to get your geek-attention?Use what would be classified as a “nerdy” pick-up-line. My personal favorite is, “If it wasn’t for Car-bon-14, I wouldn’t date at all.” I also need someone who is accepting and understanding. I spend a lot of time working - both with school and modeling. I need someone who is confident enough to under-stand that I can’t be around them all the time, and they need to be able to give me my space.

Have you found any difficulties in juggling a life being a model and a gamer? In the modeling industry I don’t get to express my inner geek a lot, and when I do it isn’t accepted a lot of the time. Same goes for my geek side. A lot of people call me a “fake geek” or say that I’m trying to play up to a certain audience. It’s very hard to find true acceptance in either field. being in Geek Fantasy reminds me that what I do for a living has no effect on what my interests are. Just because I model, doesn’t mean that I can’t kick back after a shoot and unwind with some comics.

Everyone has their own opinion of what the greatest RPG of all time is. What goes in to a great RPG? What does RPG stand for? What am I having for dinner? These are all pressing questions, and I intend to address all of them.

For those out there who don’t know, RPG stands for Role Playing Game. My list of greatness will include all kinds of RPG’s ranging from horror to medieval and back again so get ready. I must reiterate that these choices are just MY OPINION. You guys don’t have to agree with it and as a matter of fact, I hope you don’t and write in to tell Geek Fantasy what YOU think the greatest of all time is. These games were chosen from my four favorite genres: Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Zombie Apocalypse and Post-Apocalyptic. To clarify, I feel Fantasy encompasses all games that include anything from the medi-eval era, to dragons and magic.

I have noticed that Gamers categorize RPGs very specifically, with games being grouped into Linear, Action and Sandbox/Free-Roaming RPGs. Furthermore, those Gamers definitely keep MMORPGs separate (because online is a category too!). Others are confused because non-RPGs can be put into those categories as well. See I get con-fused because Grand Theft Auto and Elder Scrolls both include RPG elements, Sandbox and Free-Roaming elements and yet they are not both RPGs. I have decided to go with settings/genres, as it’s easier for ME to categorize RPGs that way.

My Number 5 is part of an X-box Series that was developed by Lionhead Studios and published by Microsoft Studios.

Though it is an old game that was released on 21 October 2008, Fable 2 has its place in my heart. Set in an almost colonial era, somewhere between the Highwaymen and the Enlight-enment, this game stands out above most others for its story and gameplay.

Players are freeto make theirown decisionsthrough dialogswith NPCs, buildinghouses, gettingmarried, doing oddjobs, and side missionswhich lead to variousdifferent paths anddestinies.

Fable even goes as far as to allowing us to choose between good and evil, wherein if you chose the latter, you would know how awesome the Devil version of the character is to play. Horns on your head, half sleeve tattoo, sharp teeth, massive physique, evil magic, townsfolk fear you… It does makeprogression alittle harder, butit is fun all thesame. I lovedthe freedom andbeing able tofollow a storyline at thesame time.

RPG Number 4 is part of a series that was developed by Vigil Games and published by THQ. The series has been discontinued as far as we know, since Vigil games went bankrupt, though the series has been rumored to make a comeback since Nordic Games bought the rights to the franchise in April 2013.

I loved playing through Darksid-ers 2, playing as Death (brother to War of Darksiders 1) the second Horseman. Iespecially liked thecompletely differenttake on the storyof the Horseman, running throughthe world andfighting for bothWar’s survival, andthe fate of Humanity. Why the Horsemanwant to save thehumans no oneknows, but they arekicking ass and takingnames in order to do so. Players control Death from a 3rd person view, which actually suits the me-chanics perfectly. There is not a lot of customization in the game but you do end up hoarding all of the item drops in order to sell them all for the cash to buy bet-ter items. Truly the main reason I hoarded all the weapon drops es-pecially, was to upgrade my Pos-sessed Weapon. The Possessed Weapons upgrade by consuming other weapons in your inventory to improve abilities or add new ones to the Possessed Weapon. Love power stacking!

Number 3 is completely different and on an entirely higher level. From old age fun times, to a geek’s version of an Armaged-don crisis, I love the mindless slaughter of zombie apocalypse games. I am sure we have all done this; I love running around and surrounding myself with hordes of zombies just so I can mow them down. Dead Island, released on September 6th, 2011, is set on a tropical island that was home to a luxury resort that attracted holiday island goers with money to spend. but all that fun comes to an end when carnage rips through the peaceful holiday destination and the outbreak spreads across the map. I liked the fact that the Is-land was cut off from the rest of the world so it was up to the only four immune to Zombification to save the day. The crafting system made it even more fun, putting yourself in danger and going into buildings where you could possibly risk getting trapped with a huge Thug Zombie and get completely beaten up in hopes that you can hoard items for crafting new weapons or find new worksheets or weapon mod blueprints. The combat system was another part of the game that really, really shined for me. FPS (First Person Shooter) games where you can just shoot a zombie in the head are far too easy so the creators of Dead Island decided to make this FPS more of a challenge by making a lot of your combat melee. It pumped my adrenaline whenever I would get in a little too deep with too little health and would have to run away terrified! I would finally make it to where I thought I was safe only to be scared out of my mind by some undead creature jumping out from around a corner! Any game that can get my heart pumping like that gets my respect.

besides my bias from being a huge bethesda fan, I chose my Number 2 based on being the best game set in a post-apoca-lyptic scene. Released on Octo-ber 28th, 2008, Fallout 3 quickly became a major installment in the Fallout Series. It has left behind huge shoes to fill for its highly anticipated sequel which is coming out soon. I especially like the game because certain aspects make you think “holy crap, what if that was real?” What if my day was consumed with almost losing a fight to raiders or fighting off giant bugs and/or mutants that roamed the Capital Wastelands that were formerly my home? Things are blown up and not repaired, bottle caps are currency, food found can be inedible and again, you will become a hoarder to collect and craft things. (Are you guys sensing a trend?) bethesda has created numerous wonderful open world RPG games but this open world is by far one of my favorites. A cool aspect is that in the game you have to confront probable issues that would come if there was to be nuclear fallout. There is radiation in almost all of the areas that can slowly damage your health over time. If you do have radiation poisoning, the only way to decrease the effects is by using Rad Away, Rad Ex, or visiting a doctor. I have tried to play a new game without getting radiation poisoning and it’s not going to happen. Furthermore, I love the retro concept where we are using technologies advanced from the 1940s and 50s that have been given a steam punk feel to them. Hands down, my favorite times were wearing the Power Armor whilst wielding the Plasma Rifle and exploring the multitude of vaults around the Capital Wastelands. I was a steam punk bad ass.

Finally, my ultimate favorite:Dragon Age: Inquisition, released on November 18th,2014 and developed by bioWare and published byElectronic Arts. This latestinstallment to the seriesexceeds all of its predecessorsby far. It overshadows bothDragon Age: Origins andDragon Age 2 with its scenery and its epic storyline. One aspect it introduced was a very good crafting system that will encourage you to explore every inch of the wilderness, searching for the last ingredient that will complete your next weapon and gear set. Another aspect I enjoy is something that is carried through all the Dragon Age games, the individual characters’ stories. I enjoy finding out more about each character as you add them to your party, like lis-tening to Varic making fun of every one or Sera being a complete ditz. but as always, the fact that you try to get involved with the characters and create your “love” story hits me right in the feels. I chose Cassandra, just because she has that “I don’t get involved with my col leagues attitude” where she is all hard on the outside and like a marshmallow on the inside.

So there you have it! 5 games that you should not pass up if you’re looking for an RPG with a gripping storyline and awesome gameplay. Do you feel the same? Do you disagree? Do you now hate me? Well, you can’t please every-one. I do believe many will find better games but I have chosen those that have left me excited for the next install-ment in their series. Games should leave you foaming at the mouth for another romp through the incredible world that they have created. We grow attached to these characters and all of their quirks and if a game can get me to actually care about what will happen next, that makes a brilliant game!

I designed and sewed the outfit, including the mask, myself. The arm took some major ingenuity, particu-larly the elbow, but I made it out of worbla. I used the Hot Toys Winter

from Amazon.

Anything I didn’t sew was basically made from worbla and wonderflex (and tears, so many tears). I used

images of the character model and screen captures from the game to try to get all the details as close to the

in-game version as I could. I did a lot of drawings and made a lot of paper patterns to get the look right first!

Doing pretty much anything in those heels is like going into challenge mode (they’re over 6 inches tall!)

Some of the battle poses were hard to get into. It’s like the video game came

to life. I loved how they came out.

I was amazed at how powerful and effortlessly beautiful she was in FFXII. From the moment I first played the game I knew one day I’d have to do her justice.

I’ve worn Loki to Wizard World New Orleans, MechaCon, New Orleans Comic Expo and Alamo City Comic Con. I won the female villain category at Wizard World New Orleans in 2014 with her! I’ll be updating this costume forWizard World New Orleans 2016.

REMY DOMINO

I’ve always been a huge geek but I originally got up the courage to start

cosplaying because of my friends. One of my best friends and her sister had been doing cosplay for a while

so they taught me how to sew so we could do group cosplays together!

We used to have sewing parties with 4 sewing machines in the room and fabric everywhere. Ah, memories.

I love getting to make my favorite characters come to life. Once that

costume goes on I am that character and the character is me.

Since I make all my cosplays myself, it’s very important to me that each

piece looks as loved as the last. Often times I put my own spin on the costume’s design so a lot of time and effort goes into planning, designing and making everything just right to

capture the essence of the character. That means that creating my cos-

tumes can be frustrating andfilled with repeat attempts and

trial and error but when itcomes down to the line, all of it is totally worth it.

I really enjoyed the way he played the straight man toSaitama’s bored child as it added a much needed secondelement of humor to the story.

The action packed show follows Saitama on his journey from just trying to find someone that he can have a real fight with, to becom-ing a registered hero and trying to meet his weekly quota of heroic deeds. Along the way, he runs into some pretty badass fighters that would be too much for most normal heroes and they make for a lot of the story behind the rather simple minded fun of the main charac-ter. Saitama seems to be dead inside after training so hard for three years to become the force that he is today, and he lacks any real desires aside from catching his sale at the grocery store. His almost childlike demeanor is a harsh contrast to the deadly serious nature of his first “friend”, and later disciple, Genos, a young 19 year old turned cyborg after his city and family were mysteriously destroyed by an unknown yet extremely powerful cyborg. I really enjoyed the way he played the straight man to Saitama’s bored child as it added a much needed second element of humor to the story. Genos also acts as a way to move the plot forward and give us a reason to keep watching a show that follows the “John Cena” of the anime world as he demolishes every threat while barely even paying attention.

As far as the art style and animation, it was an interesting choice to change the style when the serious fighting would start and then go back to normal, incredibly plain art when Saitama was just normally walking around. At times, the art was so crazy with colors and detail that it was overwhelming and a little off-putting to watch. Typically,

ONE PUUUUUUUUUNCH!

No, we aren’t talking about how batman knocked out Guy Gardner, (spoiler alert, it was with one punch) we are talking about the latest anime phenomenon to take over the entire world: One Punch Man.

I’m going to break down the basics of what you need to know even though I’m are pretty sure everyone that would read this has proba-bly seen every episode by now. The story follows the journey of a 25 year old guy named Saitama, who went from being an unemployed 22 year old to a devastating “hero for fun” that decimates his oppo-nents in, ahem, one punch.

We took the time to binge watch every episode in a row (because we have that kind of time) and we must say that we enjoyed it. Is it the greatest anime we have ever seen? Not really. Would we watch another season? Absolutely.

we would say that that kind of aggressive animation style could push some newer fans away, but with the reception that the show has received already everywhere across the world despite not even being dubbed, we are pretty sure they are just fine keeping up with what they have been doing so far. The overall feel of the show was exactly what most anime is based on at this point: the humor of the original Dragon ball series mixed in with scenes of over-the-top action, gore, and violence to feed the inner animals that we all have.

THANOSSo remember how we (just) said Deadpool had a semi-romantic relationship with Mistress Death? Well The Mad Titan Thanos was jealous of Wade’s relationship and Death’s curiousity. To give you an idea of how far Thanos would go for Death’s ad-miration, he used the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out half of the population OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE! to get her attention.

T-RAYThis guy REALLY hates our buddy Deadpool. T-Ray is a sorcerer and assassin who immediate-ly took a disliking to Deadpool and vice versa when they met at a mercenary hangout (because those exsist). T-Ray has even gone to the level of impersonating Wade Wilson and trying to convince Deadpool that he is a clone, while also running around with the woman that Deadpool thinks is his own deceased wife! That’s all before he teams up with Thanos to split Deadpool’s personality into 4 and then try to suck the personality out of him.

CABLEAs do most of his “friends”, Cable started out as a mark for Deadpool early on in his career after officially taking the moniker of “Deadpool.” Cable actually hands him a defeat (albeit with the help of his team the New Mutants) thusly causing Wade to fail his mission. Later on and closer to the current time, Cable teamed up with Deadpool to stop the One World Church from turning everyone into blue-skinned aliens….it makes more sense when you read it.

BRINGING IT HOMEDo you enjoy laughing at the pain and misfortune of others? Would you pull someone’s finger if they asked? How fond are you of chimichangas? Well Deadpool will definitely be chock full of all that and things like it, especially with Ryan Reyn-olds helming the role. The way he portrayed the character in the awful X-men Origins: Wolverine movie was 100% the shining beacon of hope in that mess, showcasing the reasons why Wade is called “The Merc with a Mouth”. We have nothing but confidence in Mr. Reynolds and firmly believe that he will do justice to this character…as long as there is no green CGI suit involved.

This stopped his cancer, but did not fix his scarred face and body. A deal with Sabretooth (yes, THAT Sabretooth) and the New Weapon X program en-hanced his already formidable healing factor to the damn-near-impossible-to-kill level that it is today. Deadpool doesn’t formally belong to any teams and pretty much goes about doing whatever he wants to whomever he wants, usually for a price, but always at his discretion. This generally leads to him being on the side of good, but also generally ends up with him putting bullets or katanas into people while making terrible puns.

SPARRING PARTNERS

WOLVERINEDeadpool has made “frenemies” of many people in the Marvel Universe, some more popular than oth-ers. Perhaps the person he tussles with the most could arguably be either Wolverine or the voices in his own head. He has fought Logan, worked with Logan, captured Logan, and gotten his butt kicked by him so many times it’s a little ridiculous.

DEATHYep.... Death is female... ... Moving on... Deadpool got to know Mistress Death while at the Hospice, a fake Government facility where a crazy doctor would torture people, superheros and civilians alike, making bets in a “dead pool” (get it?) on how long the people would stay alive. Death’s relationship with Deadpool was, you guessed it, a semi-romantic one and led to Deadpool’s heart being cut out of his chest. (brutal). Don’t worry though, Mr. Wilson was mad enough that his heal-ing factor fixed his heart and he killed the doctor and freed everyone.

Way back some 26 years ago or so, Marvel Comics introduced to the world a mercenary unlike any other. This mercenary could take out entire bases while taking mortal wounds in the process and live to tell about it. This mercenary could (literally) look Death in the face and not falter. In fact, he would probably tell a fart joke. This mercenary’s name is Deadpool. Why should you care about Deadpool? Well for starters, he is going to be portrayed on the big screen (again) by the one and only Ryan Reyn-olds, and this portrayal is going to be released very close to Valentine’s Day. If you’re a girl (generally) you will see this movie because he is in it (and he is naked, kind of a lot). If you’re a guy, you’ll see it for the humor and the sheer amount of violence. It’s the perfect date movie! Errr... sort of.

A BRIEF INTRODUCTION Wade Wilson had a pretty terrible childhood. Mother was lost to cancer, his father was extremely abusive, his friend accidentally (and by accidentally we mean on purpose) killed his father, you know, the normal stuff. After some time in the military, Wade took his talents to the mercenary circuit and took jobs taking out people that he deemed deserved it. Remember that part as it comes into play a lot in his history (and some other significant players in Marvel’s upcoming moving pictures. We’re looking at you Punisher.).

We said this would be brief, so we will sum up some pretty important events: Wade fell in love a few times but most importantly with a woman named Vanessa Carlysle. After finding out he had cancer, Wade subsequently broke off his relation-ship with Vanessa and went to Canada for an ex-perimental treatment (Wolverine’s healing factor).

hat made you decide it’s time to tell the world you have a geeky side? It started out on a whim! I was talking to the creative director of Geek Fantasy about my favorite comic book characters and when I said it was Deadpool, we immediately planned this shoot.

Did you know the movie was coming out when you shot this pictorial? When we shot this, the news was just coming out that they were making a Deadpool movie. I actually wasn’t sure about Ryan Reynolds being Deadpool because of the Green Lantern movie but I’ve seen all the press he’s been doing and the movie trailers, of course, and he’s the best choice! He’s super sexy and sarcastic and it just works.

This shoot looks devious and hilarous. What was it like on set?I’ve been so excited for this photoshoot to come out! It really was so much fun. I’ve done over one hundred shoots and it was one of my all-time favorites.

Looks like you have some interesting wardrobe choices. What made you choose this look?We went to Spencers for most of the look. We tried to describe what we were doing to the guys that worked there and they seemed into it and were helpful. The spraypaint is covered in an actual deadpool comic page. The thong and Louboutin heels were mine.
