We hope you have a wonderful anksgiving with family and friends. All of us have many things to be thankful for. While you’re out there chomping on turkey and enjoying the company on your holiday break, here’s a list of ideas for your anksgiving Day to help you enjoy your time to the fullest: 1) Dance. Do you know that every cell of your body can actually hear the vibration of music? Have you ever seen little kids who don’t hold back when they just gotta dance? Put on some music you enjoy and just let go. Dance, move, laugh. You’ll feel great for doing it. 2) Listen to your belly. It’s hard, on anksgiving Day—of all days—not to overeat. But, if you can check in while your eating and see how your feeling, your stomach and body will thank you. Just remember, you can have more later if you want. For now, don’t overdo. 3) Embrace the moment. is may be a time where you see family and friends you don’t normally get to spend much time with. Enjoy it. Each conversation. Each moment. 4) Give big, long hugs. We have an uncle who likes to wrap you up in a big bear hug and hold on tight. You can feel how much he cares just because he passes out these big massive hugs. You do the same. Really give a big hug—even if it’s out of your normal or “comfort zone.” You’ll feel good and so will the receiver. 5) Savor each bite of food. If you are eating a delicious anksgiving meal, you are blessed. Breathe between each bite. Enjoy it. Smile. Relax. Taste all the tastes. Look at the spread on the table and give thanks. 6) Count your blessings. anksgiving is a perfect time to make a big long list of all the things in your life that you are grateful for. Did you know the emotion of gratitude actually alters the chemical reactions and hormones in your body? You just feel good when you are in a grateful state. Try it. 7) Remember our freedom in this country. So many men and women have given their lives for the freedoms we have here in this country that was settled so many years ago. Many continue to do so. Remember the price for our freedom—the price that was paid so we can sit around a table and enjoy a anksgiving meal. If you live in the US of A, you are automatically wealthy by the rest of the worlds standards. Don’t forget what it’s cost to get us here. 8) Go for a walk. Take 15 minutes to an hour to get outside (even if you need to bundle up for it!) and walk, move your muscles, stretch out your belly aſter your meal, and get the blood flowing. Nothing fends off drowsiness better. 9) Play with your children/grandchildren. Nothing is better than seeing the world from the viewpoint of a child. If you have children or will be spending time with some at anksgiving, play with them, laugh with them, enjoy their easy joy for life. 10) Give. Give of your time, your money, your energy, your love, whatever you have to give this anksgiving Holiday, give it. + Feature Story: Enjoy Your Thanksgiving to the fullest

IN ThIs Issue:Enjoy Your Thanksgiving to the Fullest Hello all, and Happy Thanksgiving. We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. All of us have many things to be thankful for. While you’re out there chomping on turkey and enjoying the company on your holiday break, here’s a list of ideas for your Thanksgiving Day to help you enjoy your time to the fullest:

1) Dance. Do you know that every cell of your body can actually hear the vibration of music? Have you ever seen little kids who don’t hold back when they just gotta dance? Put on some music you enjoy and just let go. Dance, move, laugh. You’ll feel great for doing it.

2) Listen to your belly. It’s hard, on Thanksgiving Day—of all days—not to overeat. But, if you can check in while your eating and see how your feeling, your stomach and body will thank you. Just remember, you can have more later if you want. For now, don’t overdo.

3) Embrace the moment. This may be a time where you see family and friends you don’t normally get to spend much time with.

If you are eating a delicious Thanksgiving meal, you are blessed. Breathe between each bite. Enjoy it. Smile. Relax. Taste all the tastes. Look at the spread on the table and give thanks.

6) Count your blessings. Thanksgiving is a perfect time to make a big long list of all the things in your life that you are grateful for. Did you know the emotion of gratitude actually alters the chemical reactions and hormones in your body? You just feel good

when you are in a grateful state. Try it.

7) Remember our freedom in this country. So many men and women have given their lives for the freedoms we have here in this country that was settled so many years ago. Many continue to do so. Remember the price for our freedom—the price that was paid so we can sit around a table and enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. If you live in the US of A, you are automatically wealthy by the rest of the worlds standards. Don’t forget what it’s cost to get us here.

8) Go for a walk. Take 15 minutes to an hour to get outside (even if you need to bundle up for it!) and walk, move your muscles, stretch out your belly after your meal, and get the blood flowing. Nothing fends off drowsiness better.

9) Play with your children/grandchildren. Nothing is better than seeing the world from the viewpoint of a child. If you have children or will be spending time with some at

Thanksgiving, play with them, laugh with them, enjoy their easy joy for life.

10) Give. Give of your time, your money, your energy, your love, whatever you have to give this Thanksgiving Holiday, give it. Elbert Hubbard once wrote “The love we give away is the only love we get to keep.” What a great philosophy to live life by.

KIDS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGSWe love our kids. Sometimes what they say makes us laugh. Sometimes they make us ponder. Sometimes it makes us wonder how to respond—and they’re not even close to teenagers yet. Here’s the latest:

JOELY (age 4) We were making dinner the other night and I was pan-searing some salmon. Please note, in our home we follow a rule: “try it and eat at least 3-4 bites.” We have also been blessed with two children who eat a wide range of foods varying in flavor, texture, and color.

This particular night, Joely was in the kitchen helping me with preparations when she said, “I’m not going to eat any of the salmon.” (She’s eaten salmon before, no problem.) So, I replied “Oh, it’s going to be DELICIOUS. You don’t

have to have very much, but you need to try a few bites. I’m sure you love it.” Her reply? “No. I am not going to eat any of the salmon.” Me: shocked, taken aback, gasping (not really), wondering how such a sweet little one could be talking to her mother in such a way, I persisted. “Joely, it’s good. You’ll really like it. You only have to have a little bit. But you do need to eat some.” To which Joely squared her shoulders and looked me solidly in the eye, glanced down at the salmon sizzling in the pan and responded slowly, “I don’t think it wanted to die.”

I don’t think it wanted to die. How can you argue with that? One answer. You don’t.

ANDREW (age 6) It’s the night after the salmon incident. Location? Same place. Our kitchen. Andrew has already consumed a whole cheese quesadilla, homemade guacamole, salad, hummus and presumes he’s “still hungry.” What??? “Andrew, lets wait a little bit. See how your stomach feels. Think about it for a second. Think about your stomach. Does it feel hungry?” No hesitation from Andrew, “Yes. I’m still hungry. Will you make me a grilled cheese sandwich please?” After finishing my own meal, I stand up, obliging. But, as I walk over to the oven, I say, “What am I going to do with you? You’re only six years old! How am I ever going to keep up with feeding you when you’re a teenage boy? I’m going to have to hire someone just to make food for you.” Andrew’s response: “How much will you pay them?” I reply without thinking, “Oh I don’t know...” He persists, “Maybe twenty bucks or something?” I’m distracted, slicing cheese, “Sure.” Andrew replies, satisfaction and finality in his voice. “Ok. How about I just promise to eat less, and you can pay me the twenty bucks instead?”

Touché, Andrew. Touché. I’ll ask him again in nine years if he really wants to eat less. There are WAY easier (and more comfortable) ways to make money, after all…

On Oct. 26-28th, Jacob was fortunate to get to help lead at a young men’s retreat called Young Men’s Encounter. The event was held at New life ranch just out side of Siloam Springs. The event was the brain child of a great guy, Brian Clark. There were just over 100 men that gathered to hang out together and dig deeper into the Bible. It was a great time of relaxation and manly bonding time.

Mark and Karel Hayre wanted to update their existing home and add space to make their home more functional for large family gatherings. After various architectural renderings, the final product included adding on to the back of the house, creating a spare bedroom and a great room. We were also able to add more room to the master suite. The rest of their home got a pretty extensive face lift.

Mark and Karel were awesome to work with. They had great communication all the way through, and that allowed for a smooth process and a wonderful finished product.

Here’s what the Hayre’s have to say about us: “I am a hands on type person and I ask lots and lots of questions. Jacob just keeps answering them with the “patience of Job!” GB Group is transforming the paper plan into our real living space. Thanks GB Group.”

Mark and Karel are looking forward to hosting family in their newly finished home this year for Thanksgiving. What fun it will be. Thank you--both of you--for the privilege of working with you to create your new home. You two are wonderful!

Q: Should I put floor receptacles in my floors?

A: There are pros and cons to floor receptacles. The benefit to having floor plugs in large rooms is that there will not be long cords stretched out across the floor. The down side is that you must know exactly what furniture you will use and where it will go. I have seen it time and time again that once the house is complete the electrical outlets in

the floor don’t end up hidden under the furniture like planned. Just make sure that if you choose to use floor plugs you like the looks of them. Or, be okay with your furniture placement being dictated by the plugs. Do you have a question? Submit your Q to [email protected] to have it answered.

Heidi’s Healthy HomeTip of The Month

Jacob’s parents have recently gotten a juicer and have been juicing fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden they have out on their farm.

For the last week and a half, I have been in Kansas helping my mother heal up from respiratory and lymph system congestion. I have been juicing for her three or four times a day. (Along with mustard plasters, massage, and other modalities, but that’s for another Healthy Home Tip…) Needless to say, due to all this, juicing is on my mind.

Periodically, say, maybe twice a year, Jacob and I will do a few days of fresh juice only to kick start our systems and flush out. Our kids love drinking fresh juice. There is no better way to get a concentrated amount of solid nutrients into your system than through freshly juiced fruits and vegetables. It’s one of the best things you can do for your cells.

It was Hippocrates who said “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” I believe there is no vitamin, powder, supplement, or pill that can be better for your body and your body’s healthy functioning than a good dose of nutrients straight from the vine.

The best thing about juice is that the nutrient concentrations in a cup of juice are high and you don’t have to consume all the pulp. You can get more nutrients in your system without getting full. Many cancer regimens, fasting regimens, detox programs, and weight loss diets all incorporate some level of juicing. And remember, this isn’t the same as the juice you buy in the store, which has been pasteurized, killing much of the nutrient value.

There are many juicers out there on the market today, but not all are created equal. Top of the line options include Omega, Champions, Breville, and Norwalk. It’s best to steer clear of centrifugal juicers because they are not as effective at getting the most juice and most nutrients from the fruits and vegetables.

You can do any combination of juices that you want. Sometimes straight apple juice is delicious, and especially enjoyable for kids. But, it’s also easy to add greens to a sweet base like apple juice, because the flavors won’t be

as strong with a sweet flavor to compliment it. Examples include: kale, cucumber, broccoli, celery, chard, and beet greens. Organic is best, especially because the fruit and veggies will be going into the system in high concentrations. You don’t want pesticides going in along with them.

A favorite at our house is beet, apple, carrot juice. It’s an easy recipe to get you going. Beets are a great blood purifier, carrots have high sources of Vitamin A and beta carotene, and you know what they say about an apple a day... Apples are great to level out blood sugars and give you a host of nutrients. So, here’s the recipe:

5 Apples6 carrots1 beet (and the beet greens if you would like!)

This is a delicious juice blend. Very energizing and detoxifying. One thing I will mention when drinking beets—watch the clothing because beets STAIN big time. (I cringe at the number of shirts Joely has lost to this stuff… Aaah well, health is worth it. After all, if we don’t have our health, we can’t really live.)

So, use a lid, drink up, and give juicing a try!

Must Read Book of the Month

AS A MAN THINKETHBy James Allen

As A Man Thinketh by James Allen was published in 1902, and 110 years later it continues to run strong. If there was a forefather to the 21st Century “positive thinking” movement, this book was it. It’s a quick, easy read—only sixty or some odd pages. Very thin, very approachable, very necessary. Mr. Allen himself can best reveal the ideas inside the book with these three quotes, which we love:

“A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.”

“A particular train of thought persisted in, be it good or bad, cannot fail to produce its results on the character and circumstances. A man cannot directly choose his circumstances, but he can choose his thoughts, and so indirectly, yet surely, shapes his circumstances. ”

“As a man thinketh in his heart, so shall he be.”

Did you know you can only hold ONE thought in your head at any given time?. One. It’s the ONLY thing in this world of which you have complete control. You get to decide what you will think and when you will think it. It’s empowering. To find out more you’ve got to read this book.

Hello happy clients and friends! Most of you know me, but if not, I’m Jacob Tankersley, homebuilder, husband, father, business owner & entrepreneur, and avid hunter. My family consists of 2.4 children and a Golden Retriever, Drake.

And now for your Talk With Tank...

BENEFITS OF ADVANCED FRAMING Most of today’s homes have a lot more lumber than really needed. There are a handful of benefits to using advanced framing techniques. For one, you use less lumber and in turn, you have more space in your walls for insulation, which creates a more energy efficient home

Advanced framing is the approach of maximizing each piece of lumber put into the home. So for example on interior walls that are not load bearing there is no need to put headers above doors. Another technique is to use 2x6 studs in the exterior wall instead of 2x4’s. This gives you the ability to space your studs every 24” verses every 16”. This will allow you to use less wood and also gives you the ability to put more insulation in the wall for increased energy efficiency. Another example: the old way to frame corners would leave a dead spot where there was no way to add insulation in between the walls -not so with advanced framing techniques.

Not all builders and framers use these techniques. Make sure that your builder is taking advantage of them. Hopefully at some point, these approaches will no longer be called “advanced,” it will just be the way framing is done when building homes.

Superstar Client of the Month

Mike and Jessica Castagna of Siloam Springs

Congratulations to Mike and Jessica Castagna of Siloam Springs! They have earned Superstar Client status for the month of November! We worked with the Castagnas to open up their kitchen

and create a more open floor plan. The Castagnas were great to work with. They had good ideas, relayed their vision well, and after brainstorming with them, we were able to create a fantastic finished product within their home. Their clear communication about exactly what they wanted was invaluable.

Here’s what Mike has to say about our company, “GB Group was able to take a vision in our heads of what we wanted our new kitchen to look like and make it a reality. They were great to work with and were able to accommodate every last minute change we threw at them to get the finished look we were going for.”

Thanks guys! We are so grateful to get to work with you on your home!
