Thank you all, We had around 100 Gators attending, which made it an electrifying meeting. We had a couple of new people that joined our club. Being a Palm Beach Gator is so much fun. Ben Smith’s Leisure Bike Ride around Palm Beach is everyone's favorite spot to bike. A cool breeze along the water while viewing huge yachts. Only one person fell, probably day dreaming about cruising on that yacht. LOL! Oh well, peddling around may get you there faster. Chris McCardle led these bikers, showing them the views. Then a stop for a great lunch and ,of course, beer time. Nothing taste better than a cold one on a hot or cool day. We have had some fantastic happy Hours. Carmine’s was last Friday. This is one of my favorites. You can enjoy the outside bar with a cool wind blowing off the water or inside with a cool air conditioner. Either way, the Gator's have fun. The music outside is entertaining to sing along or dance to. Our Happy Hours are every Friday at a different place and I must admit I love them all. Next Board of Directors Meeting: Thursday, May 5th at Double Tree Hotel ,Palm Beach Gardens, 6:30 pm

Hello Gators,

This has been an exciting month. At our April general meeting we elected a new board which takes office the first of June. I want to thank all our volunteers that helped with this election: Supervisor of Elections Ild-iko Haidacher and her Com-mittee: Bonnie Boaz, Bob Grinnell, Barbara Lioi and Harry Patat. Thank you all, We had around 100 Gators attending, which made it an electrifying meeting. We had a couple of new people that joined our club. Being

a Palm Beach Gator is so much fun.

Nothing taste better than a cold one

on a hot or cool day.

We have had some fantastic happy Hours. Carmine’s was last Friday. This is one of my favorites. You can enjoy the outside bar with a cool wind blowing off the water or inside with a cool air conditioner. Either way, the Gator's have fun. The music outside

is entertaining to sing along or dance to.

Our Happy Hours are every Friday at a different place and I must admit I love them all. Mostly I love seeing all you Gators enjoying the evening. It is so nice to talk to everyone and meeting new and old friends or hopefully

soon to be Gators. XOXOXO to you all.

Wow! Last but not least.— the Chili Cook off. You talk

about a fantastic time where the day just flew by. This

was it.

Debbie Haselmire and Dorothy Rettay did an outstand-ing job of putting this event together. We tasted some delicious chili. I didn't realize that their were so many different ways of making chili. I only knew Wendy's

Chili. LOL

We all tasted and voted for the best or I should say our favorite because they were all wonderfully delicious. After a few bits of chili and some beer it got harder to

vote on the favorite.

While we were all sampling the chili, Debbie was chilling and grilling hot dogs. Bless you, Debbie, you do a wonderful job. She grilled 95 hot dogs and not one

was left. We had some hungry Gators.

First place winner: Patti Bochniak and her parents

Second Place: Bobbi Gaugh

Third: Place: Rose Miranda

The other cookers tied for fourth Place: Liz Loeffler, Bill

Lobb, Ben Smith, Randy Czapkewicz and Bonnie Boaz.

It was such a dashing event. We all went home

stuffed.

Hey, Gators, be sure to come to our Thursday, May 12th general meeting. I have lots of surprises and fun things planned. And I'll introduce the upcoming new

Board.

It is an honor to serve as your President.

We have a great Club and it is because of

YOU, our wonderful members.

I'm proud to serve you as your President.

A Message from Your Treasurer

Hi Gators,

I was appointed as your Treasurer after the previous treasurer resigned! I will be your Treas-

urer for the next fiscal year.

I am proud of the new leadership that has revitalized the Club. It is my objective to sup-

port the new leadership’s zeal to protect our club’s treasury from those that have a self-

serving interest in expending it. Not everyone understands that as officers we have a duty of

care that extends to the financial health of this club.

In the last few years, the role of the Treasurer has expanded. We no longer just track aggre-

gate sums for an event; we now track individuals. That is, we now not only know the total

income deposited for each event but also how much each participant has contributed to that

deposit.

Our reports have gotten considerably more detailed so that if the figures do not add up, we

are better able to discover the discrepancies as we have with some ski trip accounts which

had been neglected by the previous VP / Ski Trips.

The job is time consuming. In the past, there was considerable reliance on paper trails for the

details of an event. Depending on the event chairman, these paper trails were between accu-

rate and worthless. Now, our paper trails are only used for backup. The danger with reliance

on paper trails is that they must be filed and stored per event. Willful or accidental scrambling

of a historical file system as done by the previous Treasurer resulted in considerable confu-

sion, missed deadlines and inaccurate accounting.

Our Club website has greatly evolved; it is not just a communications tool, it is also a source

of revenue which must be integrated with our more traditional methods of finance. Treasur-ers can no longer be independent of the club website, so consequently the treasury must be

compartmentalized, duties shared and more oversight of its separate functions is required. It

is crucial that your Board members be cognizant enough to implement a working system of

checks and balances between their activities and the Treasury.

Your Treasury should be transparent and open to oversight by its rightful owners, the Club

membership. As we strive to adjust to new tools and financial methods, we should remain

vigilant that we do not open avenues that can be exploited by less honest Boards. This has

happened to other clubs.

In short, your Treasury needs more than just someone with a fancy degree. It needs honesty,

integrity, dedication and an attitude of courtesy and cooperation.

Our technology continues to change at a rapid rate. The number of ways that a financial

transaction can be executed exceeds the imagination of our club founders and consequently,

our bylaws. We need to change and grow yet we must be prudent, honest and fair to our

members.

April Meeting Recap — April 14, 2016

Lake Louise/Banff, Canada - Florida Ski Council Trip - Feb-ruary 25-March 4, 2017

Big Ski, Montana - Spring Break Week (to be confirmed)

We need Trip Leaders and Assistant Trip Leaders for these wonderful trips. For Trip Leader, you qualify if you have been an Assistant Trip Leader or a Trip Leader before (except if you led a trip this last sea-son). The requirement of having been an Assistant may be waived by the Board of Directors if you have other proven leadership qualities. For Assistant Trip leader, you qualify if you have been a member in good standing for at least one year and have participated in at least one trip.

Assistant Trip Leaders that assist in trips with over 48 participants receive 1/2 of a free trip*. More important-ly, Assistant Trip Leaders get the training and qualifi-cations to be a Trip Leader the following season or anytime after.

For both positions, it is a must that you own a comput-er and that you are able to use e-mail (including send-ing attachments), and can work with Excel spread-sheets in order to manage the trip accounting.

Empathy, responsibility, energy, caring are the quali-ties of a successful trip leader.

Trip Leaders and Assistant Trip leaders will be re-quired to attend 3 or 4 training sessions.

Powder Dreams

Hi Gators!

The Keystone and Italy ski trips have been completed, both successfully. Please join me in thanking Trip Leaders Terry Hall (Keystone) and Karen Eslary (Italy) for a job well done.

I personally participated in the Italy trip and have to say it was really outstanding. Karen Eslary did a thorough job as Trip Leader making sure we had the information we needed in a complete and timely manner. Marco Dallapiccola and Agnese Leonardelli, our members that are residents of Andalo, the village at the foot of the Paganella Mountain where we skied, were with us all the time. They made sure we were treated as VIPs. They arranged tours of two wineries, a day trip to Ven-ice, a boat tour of Lake Garda with a visit to enchanting Limoncello, a day trip to Trento which included shop-ping and a museum tour. The food was out of this world. Especially memorable was lunch at Gigi’s, at the top of the mountain, where the restaurant owner treat-ed us to a 5 course meal which included home- made bread, wine and cheese. There were so many extra activities and festivities that it was hard to keep up with it all. We had a great time.

Trip reconciliations activities continue. All payments have been received; final reimbursements to the Trip Leaders have been issued, as well as most refunds to members for overpayments. The Italy trip is in the pro-cess of the final trip reconciliation.

We will be nominating within the next few weeks, the Trip Leaders and Assistant Trip Leaders for the 2016-2017 ski season. We have already 5 trips on the works. Trip Leaders have many responsibilities: help sell the trip, manage the accounting, set up parties on the mountain, problem-solve at all times. The Trip Leader puts the interests of the group always first, and is the captain, caretaker and cheerleader for the trip. For all this, you earn a FREE TRIP* and an invaluable leadership training opportunity.

Here is an outline of the trips :

Copper Mountain, Colorado- January 2017 (to be con-firmed)

Beaver Creek, Colorado- Florida Ski Council Trip- Jan-uary 21-28, 2017

Snowmass, Colorado- February 2017 (to be confirmed)

VOLUNTEERING HAS ITS REWARDS: become a

TRIP LEADER and earn a FREE TRIP*

In the next few weeks, we will be nominating Trip Leaders, Assistant Trip Leaders and Trainees for the 2016-

2017 ski season. We are a Club run entirely by volunteers, and we need YOU to consider fulfilling one of our

most important roles: Trip Leader! for any of our wonderful ski trips.

Trip Leaders have many responsibilities: help sell the trip, manage the accounting, set up parties on the moun-

tain, problem-solve at all times. The Trip Leader puts the interests of the group always first, and is the captain,

caretaker and cheerleader for the trip. For all this, you earn the benefit of going on the trip COST FREE* and

an invaluable leadership training opportunity.

Assistant Trip Leaders that assist in trips with over 48 participants receive the benefit of going on the trip at a

50% DISCOUNT*. Assistants on trips with less than 48 participants are considered Trip Leader Trainees and

receive no benefit.

However, and more importantly, Assistant Trip Leaders and Trip Leader Trainees get the training and qualifi-

cations to be a Trip Leader the following season or any time afterwards.

Note: *trips require that a certain number of spots be sold in order for the Trip Leader or Assistant Trip Lead-

er to obtain their full benefit. If trip is undersold in spite of due diligence, compensation will be prorated.

Here is an outline the trips (tentative, subject to change!!!):

Jan 7 to 12 or 8-13, 2017 Copper Mountain, Colorado or Winter Park, Colorado (28 travelers)

Jan 21-28, 2017 Beaver Creek, Colorado- Florida Ski Council Trip (48-60 travelers)

Feb 4-11, 2017 Snowmass, Colorado (48 travelers)

Feb 25-March 4, 2017 Lake Louise/Banff, Canada- Florida Ski Council Trip (36 travelers) Mar 18-25, 2017 (Spring Break) Big Sky, Montana (32 travelers)

For Trip Leader, you qualify if you have been an Assistant Trip Leader or a Trip Leader before (except if you

led a trip this last season). The requirement of having been an Assistant may be waived by the Board of Direc-

tors if you have other proven leadership qualities. For Assistant Trip Leader and Trainee, you qualify if you

have been a member in good standing for at least one year and have participated in at least one trip.

In order to do your job, it is a must that you own a computer and that you are able to use e-mail (including sending at-tachments), and can work with Excel spreadsheets in order to manage the trip accounting. OKTOBERFEST, SEPT. 15 – 25, 2016

GET YOUR BEER STIENS READY!!! Travel to Munich, Ger-many for a traditional German Bavarian Oktoberfest. First stop, spend time in Rothenberg, Germany exploring the picturesque lanes, half-timbered houses and an intact fortifi-cation wall will give you a good look of what a medieval town looked like nearly 1000 years ago. Wearing comfortable shoes is essential for a pleasant stroll on the cobblestone. NEXT STOP, MUNICH for the annual Oktoberfest started back in 1810. It is a 16 day festival run-ning from late Sep-tember to the 1st weekend in October and is considered as the world’s largest fair. Being a part of Oktoberfest can certainly promise you the time of your life. Here you will get to enjoy large quantities of Oktoberfest Beer as well as a variety of tradition-al food including Hendl (chicken), Schweinshaxe (grilled ham hock), Knodel (potato or bread dumpling, Reiberdastchi (potato pancakes) and more. You will also be able to enjoy a number of rides. Oktoberfest will let you discover the culture of the Munich better and you will come across people from all

over the world. Onto ZELL AM SEE for a few days to take in the scenery of a corridor in the Kitzbuhel Alps of Austria. The last part of the trip will be spent in SALZBURG, where the hills are alive!!! Salz-

burg means “salt castle”, referring to its massive fortress and white gold from the mountains in the South. The city’s mag-nificent Baroque town center is rated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site that can easily be explored by foot. A classical music festival, the city’s most famous son Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the heartwarming musical “Thee Sound of Music” created the area’s fame and popularity with music enthusiasts all over the world. Sign up with the trip leader Bill

Lobb at 561-703-7551 or [email protected]. See flyer below in this newsletter for more information. More information to be added as acquired. DEADLINE TO SIGN UP IS JUNE 1ST.

FALL FOLIAGE CRUISE, OCT. 8

-15, 2016

ALL ABOARD!!!!! Join the Gators as we fly to New York City and board the unmistakably elegant Regal Princess cruise ship on a colorful journey to various Ports Of Call in

New England and Canada. Mother Nature will do her best show on this cruise in providing views of coastal New England and Canada during the colorful fall foli-age. You’ll be visiting prime leaf-peeping destinations

such as Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine and more! The Regal Princess is a 141,000 ton ship that was launched in 2014 with the SKYWALK (a cantilevered glass walkway the jets out from the Lido Deck, allowing pas-sengers to take in unobstructed views of the sea below). On the newest Princess ship you can watch Movies Under the Stars with fall colors as the backdrop. This ship is unique being that it has no cabins with windows or port hole win-dows. You go from interior to balcony to suites!!! The itiner-ary is phenomenal because you are in a Port every day ex-cept one. The Ports of Call are as follows: Newport, RI – Boston, Mass – Bar Harbor, Maine – St. John, New Brunswick – Halifax, Nova Scotia – Funday at Sea.
