    1) O Lord my God!

    When I in awesome wonder

    Consider all the worlds

    Thy hand have made,

I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,

    Thy power throughout

    The universe displayed.

    Then sings my soul,

    Refrain: my Savior God to thee;

2X thru How great thou art!

    How great thou art!

    2) When through the woods

    And forest glades I wander,

    And hear the birds

    Sing sweetly in the trees;

    When I look down

    From lofty mountain grandeur

    And hear the brook,

And feel the gentle breeze; [Refrain]

    3) And when I think that God,

    His Son not sparing,

    Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in;

    That on the cross,

    My burden gladly bearing,

    He bled and died

To take away my sin; [Refrain]

    4) When Christ shall come

    With shout of acclamation

    And take me home,

What joy shall fill my heart.

Then I shall bow in humble adoration,

    And there proclaim,

My God, how great thou art! [Refrain]

    PROCLAMATION AND RESPONSE

    Opening Prayer

Almighty God we come to you this morning, not in the sanctuary of our church, but

in the tabernacle of our homes and private spaces. Lord, it has been a challenging

time not being able to gather to see one another’s faces, to speak an encouraging word

and to lift our voices together in praise. We have been in this time of separation for

almost a year. It has been a wilderness experience for us like the children of Israel

wandering in the dessert. Yet during this time, O Lord, you have provided for us. As

you sent manna and water for the Hebrew people, we have seen provision too. We

have food to eat, clothes to wear, homes to live in and some opportunities for

fellowship with others. We praise you, O God, for these gifts. Yet we know that many

  • have suffered with sickness, many have had little contact with friends and family and

some have passed away during this epidemic. We pray for those who are alone, who

are sick and who need comfort. We ask, O God, that you might lead us through this

wilderness time and bring us into a new place of opportunity, of healing and

prosperity. We ask that you do a new thing this year and allow us to be your

instruments of grace in a hurting world, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer Chorus: “Spirit of the Living God” UMH #393

Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me. Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me.

Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me. Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me.

    Time of Silent Meditation

Pastoral Prayer lifting Celebrations and Concerns

The Lord’s Prayer – Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy

kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our

daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass

against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is

the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

    Living Our Gratitude

Offertory: “Jesus Calls Us” -William Jude, arr. Raymond H Haan

    Prayer of Thanksgiving:

Generous God, we thank you for the ways you have blessed and guided your church

this past year, in spite of all the difficulties we’ve faced, and we ask you to bless the

gifts we have given this morning or mailed in this week. Use these gifts to continue

to build your church in this place, and your Kingdom on earth, in the name of

Christ who goes before us and beside us, we pray. Amen.

Special Music: “God Has Work For Us To Do” Mark A. Miller

    Bryan Latimer, Piano/Vocals

    1) Til' all the jails are empty

    and all the bellies filled;

'til no one hurts or steals or lies,

and no more blood is spilled:

    Chorus:

God has work for us to do,

God has work for us to do,

    'til God's will is done

and all things are made new,

God has work for us, work for us to do.

  • 2) 'Til age and race and gender

    no longer separate;

    'til pulpit, press, and politics

are free of greed and hate. [Chorus]

    3) By praying through our doing,

    and singing though we fear,

by trusting that the seed we sow will

    bring God's harvest near. [Chorus]

Scripture Lesson: Deuteronomy 8:7-16 7 For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land with flowing streams, with

springs and underground waters welling up in valleys and hills, 8 a land of wheat and barley,

of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, 9 a land where you

may eat bread without scarcity, where you will lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron

and from whose hills you may mine copper. 10 You shall eat your fill and bless the Lord your

God for the good land that he has given you. 11 Take care that you do not forget the Lord

your God, by failing to keep his commandments, his ordinances, and his statutes, which I am

commanding you today. 12 When you have eaten your fill and have built fine houses and live

in them, 13 and when your herds and flocks have multiplied, and your silver and gold is

multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied, 14 then do not exalt yourself, forgetting the

Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, 15 who

led you through the great and terrible wilderness, an arid wasteland with poisonous snakes

and scorpions. He made water flow for you from flint rock, 16 and fed you in the wilderness

with manna that your ancestors did not know, to humble you and to test you, and in the end

    to do you good.

Scripture Lesson: Isaiah 43:19 19 I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a

way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

    Response to the Word

L: This is the Word of God for the people of God

    P: Thanks be to God!

Sermon “GOD IS DOING A NEW THING” Pastor J.D. Landis, guest preacher

WE GO AS WITNESSES FOR CHRIST IN THE WORLD

*Closing Hymn: “Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore” UMH #344

    1) Lord, you have come to the lakeshore

    Looking neither for wealthy

nor wise ones You only asked me to follow humbly.

Refrain: O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me

    And while smiling

    have spoken my name

    Now my boat's left

    on the shoreline behind me

By your side I will seek other seas.

    2) You know so well my possessions My boat carries no gold and no weapons

You will find there my nets and labor.

    Refrain

  • 3) You need my hands full of caring

Through my labors to give others rest

And constant love that keeps on loving.

    Refrain

    4) You, who have fished other oceans,

Ever longed for by souls who are waiting

My loving friend, as thus you call me.

    Refrain

    *Benediction:

L: As you go out to be a living witness and to show God's love active in the world, go

knowing that God goes with you, sharing the laughter and the hope, the fears and the

tears; and may the grace of God, the love of Jesus, and the inspiration of the Holy

Spirit be yours this day and always.

P: Amen! We go in peace to love and serve the Lord. Thanks be to God!
