GATE Exam Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all

India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology. GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), and Government of India.

GATE Exam Eligibility• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy

(Post-Diploma/ Post B.Sc./4 years after 10+2)• Bachelor’s degree in Science (Post-Diploma/ 4 years after 10+2)• Master’s degree in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/

Computer Applications or equivalent• Post-BSc Integrated Master’s degree programs in Engineering/ Technology

(Four year programme)• Integrated Master’s degree programs or Dual Degree programs in

Engineering/ Technology (Five year programme)• Integrated M.Sc. or Five year integrated B.S.-M.S. program• B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch. equivalent examinations, of Professional Societies,

recognized by MHRD/ UPSC/ AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institution of Engineers-India, AMICE by the Institute of Civil Engineers-India)

GATE Paper Pattern• The GATE 2016 examination for the papers AE, AG, AR, BT, CE, CH, CS,CY,

EC, EE, EY, GG, IN,MA, ME,MN, MT, PH, PI, TF, XE and XL will be conducted ONLINE using computers .In all the papers, there will be a total of 65 questions carrying 100 marks, out of which 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks are in General Aptitude (GA)

• In the papers bearing the codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PI, TF and XE, the Engineering Mathematics will carry around 15% of the total marks, the General Aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks and the remaining percentage of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.

• In the papers bearing the codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH and XL, the General Aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks and the remaining 85% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.

student needs to note that this information pertains to How to Apply for actual GATE 2016 Exam and NOT for Gateforum packages

1. All Supporting documents should be sent online only. No hard copy will be accepted.

2. Payments have to be made through debit/ATM cards, credit cards or internet banking and e-challan only

GATE Paper Structure• Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) carrying 1 or 2 marks each

in all papers and sections. These questions are objective in nature, and each will have a choice of four answers, out of which the candidate has to mark the correct answer(s).

• Numerical Answer Questions of 1 or 2 marks each in all papers and sections. For these questions the answer is a real number, to be entered by the candidate using the virtual keypad. No choices will be shown for this type of questions.
