WHAT IS GASTRITIS ?

Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining.

Regular use of pain relieves : common pain relievers such as Aspirin and Ibuprofen.(preserve the protective lining of your stomach.)

Bacterial infection : Helicobacter Pylori

Taking too much oily and spicy food

Uncontrolled stress

Excessive alcohol use : alcohol can irritate your stomach lining , which makes your stomach more likely to harmed by digestive juices.

Older age : stomach lining tends to thin with age and because older adults are more likely to have H.pylori infection or autoimmune disorders than younger people

But the most common symptom are :

Nausea and vomiting

Abdominal pain

Indigestion

HOW IS GASTRITIS DIAGNOSED ?

The doctor will ask about your symptoms and medical history.Physical exam will be done.

Tests may include :i)Upper GI series – a series of x-rays of the upper digestive system taken after drinking a barium solution

ii)Endoscopy – a thin , lighted tube inserted down the throat and into the stomach to examine the inside of the stomach.

iii)Biopsy

iv)Blood , breath or stool tests to check for infection with the bacteria H.Pylori

HOW IS GASTRITIS TREATED ?

The treatment for gastritis depends on the cause of the condition.

Acid blocking medications : Proton-pump inhibitors works by blocking cells that create stomach acid.(Omeprazole , Pantoprazole)

Antacids : to neutralize the acid in your stomach.(MMT)

Histamine 2 (H2) blockers : decrease acid production.(Ranitidine)

HEALTH EDUCATION

Stop smoking

Avoid alcohol Avoid spicy and oily food.Eat green and nutritions food like vegetables , fruits and milk

Don’t take drug longer than needed or without doctor’s prescription

Wash your hands after using bathroom and before eating or preparing food to prevent from getting H.Pylori infection

Avoid stress
