Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! In fact, on Friday, February 14, students at Gary D. Wright Elementary School will be celebrating Valentine’s Day at school. In preparation of our festivities, we would like to remind you about several important procedures that will enable this celebration to be safe, fun, and memorable for all.

The day’s events are sure to be fun-filled! Our Classroom Party Schedule is as follows:

10:00 a.m.-10:45 a.m. *Volunteer check-in begins at 9:45 a.m.

10:45 a.m.-11:30 a.m. *Volunteer check-in begins at 10:30 a.m.

Classroom Parties For:

● Third Grade

Classroom Parties For:

● Second Grade ● Fourth Grade

Classroom Parties For:

● Fifth Grade ● Mrs. Slovacek’s Class

Classroom Parties For:

• Kindergarten • First Grade • Mrs. Graham’s Class

Families who have volunteered to provide treats for the parties but are not on the list to attend the party may drop off items in the office beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14.

Please note, only volunteers who have completed the online District 300 Volunteer Application by February 7, 2020 and are on the roster of Classroom Valentine’s Day Party Volunteers provided by the classroom teachers will be able to attend. District 300 has gone paperless with our volunteer applications. Anyone interested in volunteering at a District 300 school during the 2019- 2020 academic year simply needs to fill out a form available by visiting our school’s homepage, clicking on the “Parent Form Center” (located under the homepage slideshow), and clicking “Volunteer Application.” Users must complete and submit the volunteer application online. Upon submission, the application will be sent to the school(s) indicated on the application form. Upon approval, the user will receive an approval email with sign in instructions. Parents and guardians must present a photo ID at their first scheduled volunteering opportunity. The ID will be scanned and linked to a volunteer file. Please do not use a District 300 email address when filling out the application as the system will not be able to recognize it.

Page 5: Gary D. Wright Elementary School Virtual Backpack January 12, … · 2020-01-13 · Who’s Who of Owls Saturday, January 25th at 1pm Join award-winning naturalist Mark Spreyer and

All parent volunteers must check in at our school’s office. In addition, children other than those assigned to each homeroom are not able to attend the classroom parties, and parent volunteers should plan accordingly. Parent Party Volunteers should note that parking will be limited in the lots of Gary D. Wright Elementary School. Parking outside of designated lots and fire lanes is prohibited. There will be space available in the Hampshire High School east parking lot, located near the football field.

We thank you for your support in making sure that our festivities for the students at Gary D. Wright Elementary School will be safe, fun, and memorable. We sincerely appreciate all of the time and contributions our families will provide in order to make this a truly special time for our students.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Sincerely,

Dr. Gravel Principal

Dear Wildcat Families,

This winter, once again, our school will be participating in Kane County Cougars Reading Club, a reading incentive program. The program will run for eight weeks starting Monday, January 6th and ending March 2nd.

After your child reads, record their accomplishments under the respective week on the Parent Verification Form. Every two weeks your child should return the signed Parent Verification Form to school. When a student completes the requirements for all eight weeks they will receive a ticket order form for the GDW Cougars baseball game which will be held May, 9th at 1:00 PM. Students who attend the game will also receive a complimentary hot dog, drink and a drawstring bag. Students who complete the program will also receive a Golden Ticket, good for complimentary admission to ALL June-September home games.

Grade level reading requirements for every two weeks are as follows:

Kindergarten = 150 minutes Third Grade = 250 minutes

First Grade = 150 minutes Fourth Grade = 275 minutes

Second Grade = 200 minutes Fifth Grade = 300 minutes

When the program starts your child will receive a paper copy of the Parent Verification Form for you to fill out.

Sincerely,

Mr. Cappas
