Gardens, Ghosts, Stories and … Mushrooms Mushroom Hunting at Tuckahoe Plantation Thomas Jefferson grew up here and received his early schooling in a one-

room schoolhouse that still stands. Jefferson was fascinated by nature and

edibles and enjoyed gathering wild plants. Here we will literally follow in

his footsteps as we hunt for mushroom in the woods at Tuckahoe. We’ll eat

what we gather as prepared for us in a hearthside cooking demonstration by

one of America’s most noted Colonial foodways interpreters.

Edgar Allan Poe Museum Poe is one of the most celebrated writers in the English language and he

spent significant portions of his childhood, adolescence and adult life here in

Richmond. The Poe Museum is housed in the oldest surviving structure in

Richmond with an Enchanted Garden, designed directly from Poe’s poem

“To One in Paradise.” Look for plants mentioned in his literary works along

garden walls, paths, pegolas and benches made of salvaged materials from

buildings where Poe lived or worked. Become a member of the jury in a

mock trial based on Poe’s famous story, The Tell-Tale Heart.

Ghost Tour by Trolley Virginia has more sites listed on the National Register of Haunted Places

than any other state – and many of those sites are in historic downtown

Richmond. We’ll hop aboard a trolley for a lively tour of departed spirits and

favorite haunts among the cobblestone streets. Hang on to your hat!

Virginia Holocaust Museum There is not a more dramatic story told in Richmond than that of the Ipson

family and its trials in a Nazi concentration camp. The story of the Holocaust

and its survivors, such as the Ipson family which made its way to America

and eventually to Richmond. Displays recount their experience in Germany

and the incredible story of perseverance and survival.

An Evening of Storytelling Sheila Arnold, an accomplished costumed interpreter and a treasure trove of folklore and stories will provide

an evening of special entertainment for our group. Her interpretations of traditional stories and engaging

presentation will promise a delightful evening not to be forgotten.
