Our Heritage On November 28, 1978, Banana Republic
opened in Mill Valley, Calif. Our founders were two entrepreneurs who
embodied the spirit of San Francisco. In 1983, San Francisco based Gap Inc. saw
something special in Banana Republic and welcomed the company to the Gap Inc. family.
Marissa Webb appointed new creative director on April 15, 2014.
