Game NotesAGAINST LOCK HAVEN: Gannon posted a 26-0 shutout at Lock Haven during the first meeting between the two schools on the football field last season. The Golden Knights led 6-0 at halftime, before scoring 20 unanswered points in the second half. Gannon had large advantages in total yards (303-88), rushing yards (234-53), first downs (15-7) and time of possession (35:24-24:36).

MOVING UP THE CHARTS: Jon Richardson (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) is one of six players in school history to rush for 2,000 career yards. The senior tailback ranks fourth all-time at Gannon with 2,477 career rushing yards. He needs 42 yards to pass Ron Bailey (2002-05) and move into third place.

AWESOME AERIALS: Bob Bartley (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) and Zach Boedicker (Northfield, Ohio/Nordonia) rank among Gannon’s all-time passing leaders. Bartley ranks fifth all-time with 2,250 career yards. Boedicker is sixth with 1,906 yards and can move into fifth place with 345 yards.

COMING OUT OF THE BACKFIELD: Richardson has proven to be a multifaceted back. The redshirt senior is fifth all-time at Gannon with 90 career receptions. He needs 10 receptions to become the fifth player in school history to record 100 catches. Richardson needs 12 catches to move past Pat Cain (2000-03) and into fourth place.

FINDING PAYDIRT: Richardson is one of 12 players in school history to score 100 career points. He ranks second all-time at Gannon with 204 career points, resulting from 34 touchdowns. Richardson needs one touchdown to tie Darmel Whitfield’s (2001-04) school record of 210 points.

SPLITTING THE UPRIGHTS: Jeremy Ditzler (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) has become one of the nation’s top placekickers. The junior ranks second all-time at Gannon with 24 career field goals, needing three to tie Brendan McNicholas’ (2003-06) school record (27).

BOOMING KICKS: Evan Euler (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) has turned into one of the best punters in school history with a 37.4 punting average during his first three seasons at Gannon. It’s the third-best career average in school history, behind only Ken Ciolek’s school record of 38.1 yards per punt and

Carlos Cardenas’ 37.5 mark. Euler broke the school’s single-season records for punts (65) and yards (2,488) in 2007.

MR. EVERYTHING: Richardson, who fell one yard shy of the school’s single-season all-purpose record last season, ranks second all-time at Gannon with 3,538 career all-purpose yards. He needs two yards to break Sterling Pierce’s (1996-99) school record of 3,539 career all-purpose yards. Richardson is one of eight Golden Knights to graduate in the 2000s with over 2,000 career all-purpose yards.

THE TOTAL PACKAGE: Three Golden Knights are listed among Gannon’s all-time leaders in total offense. Boedicker ranks sixth all-time with 2,971 career yards, needing 364 yards to move into fifth place. Richardson is listed eighth all-time with 2,477 yards while Bartley ranks 11th all-time with 2,210 career yards.

SCORING MACHINE: Ditzler moved into Gannon’s all-time top 10 in scoring against Edinboro. The junior ranks eighth all-time at Gannon with 124 career points. He needs three points to move past Sterling Pierce (2001-04) and into seventh place. Ditzler can move into sixth place with 29 points.

ALL-TIME RECORD: The Gannon-Lock Haven game will be the 225th contest in Gannon’s history. The Knights have compiled a 96-126-2 record and a .433 winning percentage over 23 seasons.

CLASS & EXPERIENCE: The Golden Knights have seven seniors, 23 juniors, 17 sophomores, seven redshirt freshmen, and 31 true freshmen on the 2009 roster.

FROM WHERE: Eighty-five players come from nine states: Pennsylvania 26, New York 24, Ohio 11, Florida 7, New Jersey 6, Maryland 6, Michigan 3, South Carolina 1, and California 1.

TALE OF THE TAPE: Tallest: Marcus Fowler 6’10”Shortest: Five players tied 5’8”Heaviest: Tim Reynolds 355 lbs.Lightest: Junior Weyeah 155 lbs.Offensive Line Average Weight: 293.5 lbs. Starters: 303.0 lbs.Defensive Line Average Weight: 252.7 lbs. Starters: 263.8 lbs.

Game NotesQUARTERBACK BATTLE: Gannon entered the 2009 preseason with a battle for the starting position at quarterback for the third consecutive season. The Golden Knights have not had a quarterback start every game during a season since Darmel Whitfield made 11 starts during the 2004 campaign. Matt Butler has been the only Gannon quarterback in the last four years to be a solid No. 1 for the entire season, starting 10 of 11 games in 2006. The Golden Knights shuffled two or more quarterbacks throughout the 2005, 2007, and 2008 campaigns. Bartley and Boedicker split duties under center the last two seasons, but it was Boedicker who was named the starting quarterback prior to the first game this season. He had a spectacular debut, completing 16-of-22 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener against Lake Erie.

HOMETOWN HEROES: Three local players are listed on Gannon’s two-deep. Anthony Weaver (Erie, Pa./McDowell) started the season as Gannon’s back-up running back, but is now listed as the starting strong safety. He finished as the team’s second-leading tackler (87) in 2007. Ditzler is Gannon’s starting placekicker. Connor Kimball (Erie, Pa./McDowell) is listed as a starter at defensive back.

EVENING THE ROAD PLAYING FIELD: Gannon snapped a six-game road losing streak with a 24-22 victory at Lake Erie in the first week last season and won three of six road contests in 2008. The Golden Knights have still dropped 19 of their last 28 road games, but won seven of their previous eight road contests prior to the current streak.

OVERTIME GAMES: Gannon is 2-3 all-time in overtime games, but the Golden Knights haven’t played an overtime session since a 26-23 overtime victory against Northern Michigan at home in 2005.

“KNIGHT” TIME: Gannon is 11-13 in night games over the last 11 seasons, including a 4-7 mark under third-year head coach Jim Kiernan. The Golden Knights opened the 2009 season with a 35-34 victory under the lights against Lake Erie and are 2-1 at night this season.

THE COACHES: Jim Kiernan (St. Lawrence ‘90) is 8-22 (26.7%) in his third season at Gannon University. John Klacik (Lock Haven ‘88) is 5-46 (9.8%) in his fifth season at Lock Haven.

LAST WEEK: Gannon University Field was the place to be if a football fan wanted to be entertained. Gannon and Slippery Rock played the highest scoring game in Gannon history as the Golden Knights out-lasted the Rock 51-48. The two programs combined to score 99 points and accumulate 1,026 yards of total offense. Boedicker set career-highs in passing yards (247), passing touchdowns (3) and total offense (355). Richardson recorded his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season and 11th of his career with 115 yards and two scores.

NEXT SATURDAY: Gannon begins a season-ending two-game road swing Saturday, October 31 at Indiana (Pa.). Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Crimson Hawks posted a 35-10 victory at Gannon University Field last season. It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the football field. Craig Burgess kicked four field goals for the Crimson Hawks.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE: Gannon concludes the 2009 regular season Saturday, November 7. The Golden Knights are tentatively scheduled to play at Bloomsburg. If the Huskies win the PSAC Eastern Division, the Golden Knights will have a different opponent.
