A Rude Awakening

• Went to England in 1888 to study law• Thrown from his first class seat • Began his will towards change• Seeker of Satya, truth


Gandhi’s Duty

• He believed it was his duty to become familiar with the Indian conditions.

• Traveled for a year. • He became known as Mahatma,

“Great soul”


The first Stand

• A Hartal, strike• Ended in fight and a fast for 72 hours• Started the 28 year struggle


Amristar Massacre

• April 23, 1919• Forbidden meeting in Amristar • 379 dead, 1,200 wounded• Returned Medals

• Massive outbreak of Violence• His own people killed 22 police men • Five day fast for the dead


The final rebellion

• Gandhi led many more movements all over India.

• Finally he was arrested, along with anyone of any significance in India.


Fast to the death

• Prayer was not enough• 78 years old Gandhi would fast to his

death if peace would not come• Six days later he broke his fast.


The Fateful End

• He was shot several times while heading to evening prayers.

• “Oh God”“Death is the appointed end of all life. To

die by the hand of a brother rather by disease…. cannot be for me a matter of sorrow and if I am free from thought of anger or hatred against my assailant I know that I will rebound to my eternal welfare” -Gandhi



Gandhi brought light, hope, Love and peace to India that no one else was willing to fight for. He was a beacon of sanity in an insane world.
